It's because a lot of us don't have FIVE friends who do all these things: 1. Available at the same time 2. All have the same console 3. Have two to three hours to kill to do the raid 4. And to do it uninterrupted by life problems Raid Matchmaking please.
I don't like raids for a few reasons. 1: Getting people together. Always a pain. 2: Time. I have 3 kids. I do not have the time to spend an entire day trying to crack Oryx's coconut. 3: Annoying frikken puzzles. Fuck jump puzzles, fuck deliberately obtuse mechanics that artifically jump the difficulty level. 4: The rewards aren't worth it. No more elemental primaries takes away my primary motivator for doing those damned things in the first place. 5: I have more fun doing other things. I don't get yelled at for fucking up. I can contribute in a meaningful way to the success of a group. I don't have to try and remember all the different things that go into running the raid. Literally there are only 2 things I'm willing to raid for. A crux so I can get the nechrochasm gun and the Oryx challenge because that's the one calcified fragment I don't have. Outside those 2 things, I don't want to raid.
Ehh it possible to raid with five strangers just as well. I basicly use the recruitment section of the Bungie forum. The major downside is it gets boring after the 2nd or 3rd run. Your also gambleing on getting people that actually can do what is needed to complete them. I spent over a hour in one raid at the Totems in King Fall because one guy kept dying over and over forcing us to wipe. Raids are more of a test of patience when raiding with strangers. Once I get whatever gear I want out of a raid. I stay the hell out of it. Edit! Bad news guys! A new Balance update hits tomorrow! Hope none of you main Hunters cuz you are going to have to relearn everything. Oh but wait there are gun changes coming too. R.I.P Tripmines. For you were the best of the Grenades and now Bungie has killed you.
Literally the best part of the game eh? Allow me to repost myself and my first real Raid experience ever: So yeah, where was the fun? All of this is very true. I have more then 5 friends who play Destiny on the Xbone, the problems are that they're not all in the same time zone, on at the same time, or are all interested in the Raids. Matchmaking or this upcoming feature "Looking For Group" may help out. And that is certainly very true as well. It is appalling how poor so many people with headsets can actually communicate and the level of detail is such that most people seem to be either misinformed or unable to actually describe what we're doing or supposed to do. I only wanted to Raid in the first place for the experience and I have about three quests asking me to do it, so it would clear those. BTW, I did POE with some friends and finally got a better helmet, jumping to 321 light with my Titan (and trickle down jumped my Warlock a few light levels). We also did Nightfall and for the first time ever it wasn't the Darkblade, it was hunting down the Taken guy on Venus and that end battle blows hard. I also made quite a bit of progress on the Exotic Sword quest.
Outside of that change to tripmines, I'm cool with that update. Really sucks though. Tripmines were the best.
im happy they mad some Titan adjustments, Im usually a striker but I noticed in the last iron banner that fist of Havoc seemed lack luster at times and sometimes wouldnt kill opponents. sucks about the weapon changes though.
I used it for a bit, didnt really like it in crucible though. never could land shots consistently even after the april update. Like it for PVE though. Im in the same boat as all the above about the raids though its tough to find time/people
I'm just back in after being away since New Years. Ground Court of Oryx for a few minutes and did some quests. Seeing my Warlock get blue drops at 305 light, and climb 2 light points in 10 minutes was a bit disconcerting... lol What are the new "must have" weapons? I've heard "Not Like the Others" is supplanting Hung Jury as primary Scout?
My first real raid experience was in the Vault of Glass. I started playing during the House of Wolves so you'd think my first run would be with experienced players but that couldn't be further from the truth. My first run was pretty much an experience like yours. Six hours of waiting, yelling, and the rotation of seven different teammates later and in the end Atheon was still alive. You did good friending the competent players and eventually you will be able to coordinate a great group and finally be able to have that great Raid experience most players talk about. Raids are the ultimate PvE experience and you definitely should keep trying despite your sour first run. On a side note I am liking some of the new changes, namely Hand Cannons. It's a damn shame they finally brought the Nerf Hammer to my prize pig the Twilight Garrison. One air dodge should still be good but it was amazing being able to zip around in combat. I finally had enough mobility to keep up with Hunters in PvP.
Really they nerfed the F..king Throwing Knife. This will ensure that low armor players can’t be killed in a single headshot. ^ This is BS a 10 inch knife right between the eyes should be a single headsho. What about the f..king Shoulder Charge it is a one shot it should be nerfed so This will ensure that low armor players can’t be killed in a single hit by it. Running around with Shoulder Charge constantly using it is BS and it requires no skill to use it and it needs to be changed. This is what needs to be done whit Shoulder Charge. The range needs a nerf and When it is used it should slow you down a lot. Because i am sick of no skill Titans running around constantly using it.
I've been a Striker since HoW and I can assure you that Shoulder Charge is not nearly as bad as the throwing knife. Shoulder Charge only really works if I completely blind side someone otherwise I am eating a shotgun to the face or due to weird latency or bugs my Charge doesn't connect or doesn't kill. At best Shoulder Charge is only good for Titan Skating.
The Throwing knife is not nearly as bad as Shoulder Charge you should play as a Hunter and see how it is.
Shoulder Charge is a one hit the Throwing knife should a one hit. Having Shoulder Charge a one hit and the Throwing knife not a one hit is not Balance.
I've rolled a Hunter before. Granted when I used a Hunter you were not able to to OHKO headshot so I used it to finish off opponents if I was still reloading. Turning it into a safe OHKO at range, granted it is a tough shot, skirts into the broken territory.
consistently landing the shoulder charge takes a bit more skill than you are implying especially in head on confrontation. You can get lucky for sure but you cant haphazardly decimate with it. I love it its a great equalizer but unless you are blindsiding someone its easy to shutdown with a shotgun or fusion rifle. I got super decimated by hunters last Iron banner so Im kind of happy to see the nerf. Im curious to see how sunbreakers feel now though.
I was a Striker before I became a Sunbreaker and I had very little luck with the shoulder charge in Crucible. The distance charge requires some degree of skill; start it too soon and you just end up melee punching, plus it's easy to get blown to bits by a shotgun or hand cannon as you're going in. I felt that Hunters were massively OP personally and I'm glad to see some of those nerfs. I was also hoping to see more to the Nightstalker; mostly that Nightstalker Super that has a tether that can go through walls and rocks and yank a player out of their own Super. But seeing that Bladedancers won't be able to super swipe their way across the map is very good to see.
yeah if you sprint for about 5-6 seconds it becomes active and its tough to time in close quarters........that said my personal favorite is finding a sniper on their perch and giving them the knee from hell. unless you are running third eye perk its easy to get blindsided by the shoulder charge.
