Just finished the pilot, really impressed. Didn't know Rhys Darby was in this Why not just give it a try and see how it is before jumping to conclusions over it's story telling quality?
Jumping to conclusions about what? I never mentioned anything about the story quality, I only talked about how I thought it was disappointing to only be 13 episodes. I'm planning to at least watch the first few episodes later.
sorry, I worded that badly, it just seems like you're already down on it before even watching it. 23 mins seems to be the run time for regular episodes but I think it's best to look at is as an extended movie and watch eps in chunks.
Just finished last episode....it leaves some questions, that's for sure! I actually liked this, it was enough of the original to satisfy me, and different enough that I didn't really know what to expect....
Guess what's on BBTS's front page today? Probably just a coincidence but it made me chuckle. Anyways, I'm up and well rested. Time to Netflix and chill.
i really love the music in this show, it has that retro sort of feel to it? V nice so far. Hope this paves the way for more animation like this on Netflix.
Just watched the pilot.... Yeah, it SCREAMS Avatar. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way. I just felt some of the comedy fell flat. I wish they had skewed toward a slightly older audience. It looks good by today's standards but it does lack that darker look of the original. I wish the castle hadn't been so polished and futuristic right away. Some of the writing is REALLY weak. I wasn't really digging the team's new origin story even though the character interaction is pretty great. How they found the Blue Lion was pretty weak. I mean, a wave that looks like the mountain range? That was just stupid, but I guess it's for kids. And Zarkon has been ruling for TEN THOUSAND years? Really? His empire has been going strong for that long? I mean, let that number REALLY sink in. That amount of time generates about a dozen plot holes in itself. I also wasn't a fan of Arus being an empty dead planet. On, I'm still not a fan of purple lion. Overall, I'd say it was pretty good. Not great. I wish they had toned down the comedy that didn't work ("I want them to make me a sandwich") and added some dark Gothic elements.
Just binge watched all the episodes on Netflix. Glad to see they didn't ahere strongly to Earth-English-Is-The-Cosmic-Languange-Of-All and there were moments where actual translating needed to be performed (even if briefly). It's also good to see all of Joaquim's silliness and shenanegans from the Air Bender/Korra series is alive and well here too. Also loved how he put his name directly in the series, Mr. dos Santos has a sense of humor
Hope we don't have to wait too long for season two. Spoiler Stupid Cliffhangers...well at least Shiro made it through the season.. And don't piss off Allura, she will pick you up and throw you across the room
Love everything about it. From the corrected the colour coded uniforms, to Coranic comedic relief, how the lions differ, Asian guy's the lead, brown elf chick and the list goes on. Toys please!
Just finished ep 1--really strong start; I'm so glad they decided to put this on Netflix instead of dooming it to early cancellation on some other network.
I'm only in the first ep and this show has all of my love. Everything about it is just pure enjoyment.
I called all the major "twists" in the first episode, believe it or not. So, take from that what you will. Spoiler Pidge being his sister, Lotor being the former Black pilot, and Allura having to sacrifice her artificial father. That last episode left a lot to be desired, TBH. It needed another 2 episodes. Or at least an extra 30 mins. I really enjoyed it. It fleshed things out a lot more than the 80's version.
Sadly Netflix dropped the ball and it isn't available globally. If anyone has some leads on where to watch it internationally please do let me know,
