Sonlong as mtmte is written by James roberts I will keep reading it. Will follow the other tf books. Nothing else. If it gets bogged down with the larger universe or crossovers I'll peace out. Til then... I do feel it is somewhat of a crime to renumber rid and mtmte. Getting to fifty issues is, quite honestly for this era, a significant accomplishment. *Shrugs*
This is just a tiny bit sanctimonious. IDW have plenty of form ballsing up soft reboots and crossovers - there's every reason to be apprehensive about them trying to do both at once. Plus, you know, speculation and prediction is a normal part of human interaction, as is sharing anxieties. I don't think anyone here has made up their mind already - just noted their heavy skepticism.
That enlist poster would make me a draft dodger Its obvious this is just gonna result in less screentime for lesserknown characters, less time for interesting storylines and even more focus on fanfavs and more fanservice. Especially GI Joe will be forced upon us judging by appearances
It occurs to me that the only Hasbro property I want the Transformers crossing over with doesn't seem to be taking part. I'd say that sucks because a Jem/Transformers crossover would be the best thing ever... but I've legitimately had mods delete my posts for saying that before.
Jem/MTMTE makes perfect sense. After losing command of the Lost Light, Rodimus & company hide out on Earth and pass the time by starting a holoform band. (I don't know anything about Jem except that there is a band and they have holograms.)
Where is this coming from? Both books use a lot of lesser known characters as principle cast members.
New creative directions coming from new administration, sounds to me like they want some of that sweet reboot money DC and Marvel have been making these past few years. Although, they swear this is not a reboot, it still feels like one. They are also saying that nothing is being retconned and that everything that was written will stay in continuity. That's easy to do, I think, but they are still making a huge turn when you have My Little Pony and Transformers fighting Micronaut baddies, which could cause some readers to jump off the books. If they do a bunch of one-shot books with crossovers, then that is easier to ignore and you can just choose to not buy them, unless you're a collector who needs to have every book in the series.
IDW has always tried to have their cake and eat it with the 'new readers'/'old readers' catering train. How can it possibly work that any comic, #1 or not, is simultaneously a direct continuation of an ongoing plotline for a seasoned audience and a 'jumping-on point' for new readers? It just doesn't. You've got to finish up what you're doing, pack your toys away, and then invite the new kids round, otherwise you end up pleasing nobody.
I'm thinking that this is more about Hasbro making a desperate bid for some of that Marvel Cinematic Universe success. They're trying to develop a branded synergy across all their properties, so that they can stretch out beyond just making toys, and start making more money just on IP management. Someone at head office is dreaming of a "Hasbro Universe" that will become a household name. IDW is just one of the bricks falling into place on that. That's typical corporate thinking... seeing one success story, and saying "hey, we should be able to do that too!!" I think it's deluded, but we'll see what happens. I mean, HUB worked out so well for them, didn't it? zmog
I agree this is part of a larger move to create their own Blenderverse but just like WB are finding, it worked for Marvel because of some fairly unique circumstances and the patience and investment to complete such an undertaking over time. Simply throwing everyone/thing into a Launch Vehicle and expecting fandom(s) to love it gives you Batman V Superman - not the Dark Knight.
"Billions of people died when the giant transforming robots from outer space conquered the planet. But we try not to think about that. We have a job to do: hunting down the man who dresses like a snake and who may in fact actually be a snake." -- leaked dialogue from GI JOE: REVOLUTION.
Yes, Batman v. Superman totally sucked arse, but I don't like this thinking of "oh because someone else fucked up this reboot/crossover thing, no one should ever try anymore". I'm willing to wait and see.
Windblade is unfortunately pretty bad, the introduction of the 13 and other aligned mythology was bad, and Combiner Wars was bad, but surely *this* time things will be different? Unlikely.
I havn't read any GI Joe comics. Have they rebooted a few times already too? I get the sense that TFs form the core of the universe, at least that would make sense, given the scale that humanity has to deal with them. If that is the case, why not just plain old reboot all the other continuities to fit the transformer universe? Or does do too much damage to the other books?
GI Joe's only been soft rebooted several times at IDW like TF. And all the other series just started, so there's no reason to reboot their continuities.
Yeah, I agree... though I'm sure some people are less fussy than us. Still... not optimistic at all. It feels like too much. zmog
Windblade was just a mini like SOTW, which is certainly far from bad, and I don't remember anything about the introduction of the 13 that was outright bad; Barber adapted them for IDW and put them into an era of Cybertron we had already barely known anything about without disrupting the ambiguity of the Cybertronian race's origins and religions (and in fact expanding upon that aspect of Cybertronian life with the Way of the Flame being another one).
