Hey fellow tfw2005 family, I have a confession to make. I posted at least 10 different minicon type hot rod/Rodimus on here and within a week, I either make some alterations or search for a new ideal because I wanted the AWE! factor. .One day I was on deviant art.com looking for some ideals about making a galvatron, and ii ran into this drawing of Rodimus and I fell in love with it. It took me 3 months to find the right minicons from eBay to make it. Well after some adjustments, and repainting I FINALLY got this version of a custom minicon Rodimus to my standards. So tell me what you think, likes or improvement I could make.
You seem genuinely interested in constructive criticism, which is a rare thing in these parts. Allow me to make a couple of suggestions: Paint - Use a matte finish, or spray a matte clear coat over your finished paint job. You should also thin your paints with the appropriate thinner before applying them, because it looks like the paint you're using is too thick for the small surfaces you're applying them to. Photography - Use a small, adjustable light source like a desk lamp, and make sure the flash on your camera is off. Too much light can wash out details, and reflected light off painted surfaces makes them look especially shiny. Post-processing - You can crop your photos with any simple graphics editing software. There's no need to waste bandwidth with pictures of your table and your wall, which dominate over 75% of your images. That's not what you want to show us.
Yes, your paint is too thick for that size. I found markers to be fairly thin and simple. It does look like my customs which are globby when I use a brush. So I am not the best person to go to for paint and such. With some redoing and repainting, it will be excellent! Now is just great. Love to see you come back to this and improve it. You have potential!
Get in closer to take your pictures and with a toy that size maybe try switching on the macro setting
If you rock an android device, may I suggest you uses the "Picsart" (or similar) picture editing app? You can crop, blur out the background and do loads of post-processing stuff that was only available on PC several years ago. I've attached an example of a quick edit I've used a b&w filter and cropped it down. I've also included an example of a pic of a tf''s face that I took with a macro lense on my Galaxy Note 2.
DAMN! NICE APP! Whenever I use my flash it doesn't show the details good enough. Thanks for the information I will try it out.
Depends on what you call metallic red. Gundam marks has 2. One sakokuden and other just metallic red though they do come off a bit pinkish.
I'd recommend using sprays instead of markers. In fact, I'd rarely recommend markers. With sprays, a project of this size wouldn't take long at all, and then you could just go in with some fine tip brushes for details. It looks like you've gotten some good advice here on some other things. Thanks for sharing!
And it shows. There are paint pen tip lines along the legs. Sprays and brushes (both hand and air) are the way to go.
