Is it strictly a TF con? Videos online made it seem like it was coplay and other things as well. Can anyone speak to last year's attendance as well? Would like to go as a dealer but, would have to move some obligations around to get it to work

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    May 1, 2016

    Wichita, KS

TFExpo 2016 Registration Open Now-- PLUS Transformers: The Movie Theatrical Screening!

TFExpo is pleased to announce that registration for our 2016 show is now open at tf-expo.com! On August 5th and 6th, fans from all over the region will gather in Wichita, Kansas to celebrate their favorite transforming toys. Our special guest at TFExpo 2016 will be legendary voice actor Michael Bell, best known to Transformers fans as the voice of Prowl, Sideswipe, Swoop, and many others, as well as Duke from G.I.Joe and Lance from Voltron. Pre-registering not only takes care of your admission to the show, it also includes your admission to the autograph line, your souvenir t-shirt and one or more exclusive plushie Keybot toys designed by the amazing Shirley Cheung. Premium and Ultra Registrants will receive admission to TFExpo's signature event, the Saturday Night Dinner and Script Reading, where all attendees will enjoy a plated dinner with our special guest, and a few lucky chosen attendees will be joining our voice actor in a live reading of a brand-new fan-submitted script. Ultra registrants will each receive a seat at the voice actor's dinner table, and an 8x10” photograph of them with the actor that will be returned to them at the show for autographing.

But that's not all. Longtime Transformers fans will realize that our convention weekend lands very close to a very special occasion-- the 30th anniversary of the animated classic, “Transformers: The Movie”. In commemoration of this event, Wichita's historic Orpheum Theatre will hold a theatrical screening of the film on Friday evening, August 5th! Transformers fans will not only get to enjoy all the events of TFExpo at Wichita's Hotel at Old Town, but also celebrate the film that had such an impact on our childhoods. Tickets will be available for everyone to purchase directly from the Orpheum, however TFExpo will pre-purchase tickets from the theater that we will reserve for our Ultra and Premium registrants! More information about the screening will be available very shortly at wichitaorpheum.com.

All in all, it will be a great weekend to be a Transformers fan in Wichita, Kansas. We hope to see you there-- register now at tf-expo.com!

To answer the previous questions about the convention:
We are a Transformers themed show but we are open to any and all fandoms. It is a show for fans of all transforming toys and really any 80's/90's toy line and cartoons.
Last year we had dealers from all over. Some sold POP figures, MLP, Comic books, Voltron, Thundercats, MASK, Visionaries and more. We even had a jewelry dealer and a chainmail armory dealer.
I had a booth and along side my Transformers I had lots of 90's Marvel and DC figures, Air Raiders, WILDCATS, and much more.
So I wouldn't worry about what kind of items you bring. If it is cool people will like it.

Our cosplay contest is open to all fandoms as well.
One year our winner was a cross between a storm trooper and a ghost buster. And one year we had Cobra Commander place in the contest. So no worries there.

As someone who has been to every TF Expo, I can tell you it has grown a lot. Since I'm not privy to that info, I can't give you exact numbers on attendance. I can guess attendance was at a few hundred last year, and each year it has grown. I've seen it grow from a little get together among friends in Wichita to adding great guests and attention from a national audience. Past guests include Garry Chalk, Gregg Berger, Flint Dille, Buzz Dixon, Sumalee Montano, Neil Ross, and Dan Gilvezan. Last year, TFW2005's own Vangelus was a guest and Optibotimus visited as an attendee. Artist Matt Frank has also had a booth and ran panels at multiple TF Expos.

In the last few years, they have pushed to expand the convention beyond Transformer fandom and into more generic nerdom, which will bring in more people and more potentially interesting guests. Granted, their original fanbase was in Transformers, so there is a lot of that, but I expect to see more diversity and interesting guests and panels in the future.

This year, they are moving to a new location as they may have outgrown the hotel convention center they have used the last few years. Should be a fun time!

its still like 80% transformers right? like mostly everything is transformers and there's just a little sprinkling of other stuff?

cause don't get me wrong i love that stuff, but i am attending so that i can go to a transformer convention not a 80's/90's geek convention.

i want this to be a botcon alternative where everything or mostly everything is transformers even if its not as big... if it's not then id rather just go to regular comicon

80% or more. The addition of other properties like GI Joe or whatever else is just to broaden the attendance a bit. It's still very Transformers centric. Toys, panels, and guests. You will not be disappointed.

I'll be there this year, but for the first time, I won't be attending the dinner after the convention. Every year, they have had a dinner with the guests. You have to purchase a certain level of ticket for admittance. During the convention, they have an audition panel so they can cast the script reading that happens during the dinner. The script is a fan script that was selected prior to the convention in a competition. They suggest that you use the voice actor guest's characters. The rest of the cast is made up of attendees and they get to read the script with the guest. Last year's script was pretty cool with a time traveling G1 Bumblebee. Obviously, this year has a lot of possibilities, with Michael Bell voicing so many characters. Prowl, Sideswipe, Swoop, Bombshell, Scrapper, Brainstorm, First Aid and even Duke from GI Joe. Too bad I'll miss out this year. It's my wife's birthday that day and I am planning a surprise party for her.
