It sounds like maybe it's going to be an all Hasbro brands sort of convention. Instead of a convention focused on just one line it would be the lines with passionate fans that don't have quite enough fans to support their own official convention. With so many voice actors working on different shows it seems like a good way for those voice actors to get more panels with less flying. Really I don't see this as a bad thing because I go to conventions like Dragon Con and Con Carolinas where it's not just one brand. I find it rather fun to interact with fans of other things rather than just one thing. Exclusives, hey perhaps now instead of insanely large sets with too many figures for a more casual collector maybe we can get smaller sets. And maybe something cool like a Nerf gun with Decepticon logos now that exclusives wouldn't be limited to just one brand. My biggest question right now is will it be just one show per year jumping around from east coast to west coast with occasional stops in the middle or will it be the same con in different locations?
I can guarantee that I won't bother you, sir-- I'll be too busy, you know, having fun and enjoying the con like a normal person. :V
Honestly, forget Bronies-how about all of the teens and college kids that are gonna be firing off Nerf guns the whole time? I just hope they'll have them in different locations each year; the last time a Hasbro con was in Florida was in 2010, and I had a year to go back then before I got into TFs.
I just hope that the increased budget at Hasbro's disposal makes a con in NYC a realistic possibility. The Javits Centre is right here, guys! Just make sure you don't hold HasCon in fall, and you'll be fine!
I wish. MLP has exploded among general geeks. I'm certain there are far more Bronies now than hardcore TF fans. Plus, Hasbro will probably use each Hascon to push everything they try to turn into a movie. While I'm sure TF will probably be a large chunk of the Con, it's unlikely it'll dominate it.
^^This My son (13) is a Brony, there's a few at his school. He'd probably enjoy a HasCon more than he ever would have enjoyed BotCon or even TFCon. He enjoys TFs, just not to the degree Mommy does.
I'm on the side of hoping this isn't an all-properties thing. It probably will be, but I'd rather not have to share a convention with other fandoms. The other issue is venue size. AFAIK the only place that can hold all of Hasbro's fandoms in a breathable space is Pasadena. Which likely means that Hasbro will be anchoring itself to California, driving every TF fan on the East Coast to TFCon. I seriously hope I'm wrong about this whole thing, but HasCon sounds like TF/Joe/MLP/everything else all rolled into one convention stationed in Pasadena. Granted I don't mind going to TFCon to get my Transformers fix, but it'd be nice to have a big fan-run convention, a big official convention, and only one SDCC. Not two SDCCs and one TF-only convention that might be affordable one year and won't the next.
I could see them having a general "HasCon", but I could just as easily see that being the umbrella name that is co-branded with unit specific conventions. For example: TRANSCONa HasCon event...that has everything to do with robots and nothing with sexual identity
I disagree, if only because what else is there for Hasbro to promote? MLP having the movie in 2017 aside, none of Hasbro's other franchises even remotely have the same draw - GI JOE still has a strong fanbase but Hasbro's pretty much left that brand dead in the water ATM, Battleship and Jem were box office failures, and unless I'm forgetting something the non-movie franchises like LPS don't have the adult fanbase to justify convention presence in the first place.
Doesn't seem to have hurt Disney's show much. I sure as hell wouldn't be going for the Princess line. I'd be going for Star Wars, Infinity & Marvel-verse (and some Pixar) reveals & panels.
I don't think any one brand would "dominate" unless they have something specific they want to push in a given year. Which would likely be tied to which ever brand has a stronger media presence or new show/film that will be plugged.
I'm not super optimistic. I guess hooray that TFCon will still be a thing. I guess at least I'm going to have a lot less exclusives to buy. I'm going to be disappointed if we shift to mostly perfect version exclusives and alternate colors for toys like the trends for San Diego exclusives.
That's the point though. Hasbro wants to have the energy of a convention for all of their brands but can't justify individual cons for each. So it's wrapping them all together into one and using whichever brands have a stronger presence to help give fans of lesser ones a place to go and hang out.
We could also end up with something like Pepsi Prime, which sold at Botcon for $25 each back in 2007. More than anything, I'm curious if the convention will be open to dealers at all. I'd be surprised if Hasbro would desire anything but Hasbro products at an official Hasbro convention. If anything, there will probably be one massive Hasbro retail booth...and that's it.
The problem is, since these smaller brands don't have the following of TF and MLP, I fear Hasbro will use this to try and force these brands on us, in order to try and create interest. It's not like Hasbro is giving up on the idea of these other franchises getting their own movies.
My guess is no since the number of brands could make the dealer room unwieldy and lead to price gouging as someone becomes "the only TF guy" or "the GI Joe table". If they want to use Hascon as a fan/brand convention and let the individual communities manage their own unofficial cons w/ dealers (think TFCon) that wouldn't be the worst way to go. Man. This is an awful way to think of other Hasbro brands. Especially since Transformers itself is sometimes held up by successful sales of other franchises. Ex: STAR WARS
I dunno. I would think TF is their top property... However, with the aging & continual 'new blood' available among fans & consumers, it makes no sense to continue to ignore the increasing MLP fanbase. While it's not my cup of tea, I can appreciate the lessons presented to my son & his peers of both genders. And there's several Dads who watch w/ their children, along w/ some of my fellow Moms. Not sure that the Jem movie did a darn thing for that property.
