Yes I saw them yesterday as well the figures are so bad quality looking. Like the new power rangers and tf plastics and paint.
Admittedly, this has been a common practice for Playmates for years. Though they may've taken it up another notch. Anyway, smart move, Mega Bloks. I greatly appreciate that the single packed movie mini-figs are not blind packed. Makes troop building Foot Soldiers a lot easier. [Now, it you could just go ahead and put them in a troop builder four-set.]
They likely don't do a lot for adult collectors because for every one adult collector who buys and then nitpicks and complains, there are something like 5 to 10 children and parents who throw money at the figures and are completely satisfied. The Ooze figures are them trying to wring out the last few dollars from adults before all the high-quality stuff comes out. When you've got the choice to go for a larger audience that is satisfied with almost anything, it makes sense to focus on that one. The problem with adult collectors is that when you cater to them, you need to be 100% committed at all times, and Playmates doesn't want to make the commitment. It doesn't make sense for them to do that, either, when they've got the child market wrapped up. An interview somewhere stated that Bandai was interested in doing movie versions of the Turtles if the original four sell well. Everything hinges on those four selling well before they commit, which makes sense. Unlike Playmates, who say the same thing and still cancels shit, Bandai will keep their promise. I used to collect a lot of the TMNT 2012 stuff and Playmates stuff and just realized they were never going to keep cost cutting and removing paint and articulation, because the figures aren't made for people like me. I sold everything I had and I've been waiting for a company who will make what I've wanted, which is finally happening.
They've mentioned that they have some smaler scaled figures in the works, but haven't mentioned what they're doing yet. I'm hoping for a good mix of things. Probably a bit too much wishful thinking on my part, but I would love to see them continue their line of Mirage figures, while also introducing a line of OotS and IDW figures. The problem is really whoever they have in charge of painting their prototypes. Those are what get used for the packaging photos, and for some reason they never think to dial back on the paint for them. Even though they know, and have acknowledged, that they always make cutbacks on a figures paint before going into production.
I don't know what you guys want for $9. Seriously I know it sucks they are in no way made for collector's, but the articulation and size of these figures generally outshines other figures at that price. You can blame playmates, but honestly $9 doesn't get you much anymore.
I hope Mega Bloks plans on releasing all four turtles in the translucent green plastic as they've done with Leo.
The problem is that there is no real alternative. We're starting to see collector friendly options crop up now, but still nothing that has offered anything much beyond the Turtles. Also, while I can't speak for others, I know I would be willing to pay more for better figures. Especially for the new movie's designs. Frak, that last trailer sold me on getting Bebop. I just wish there was an option that didn't then require me to pretty much paint the entire figure to make it look right.
I don't want to pay $9. They should only be $5 for what you get. Get rid of the stupid metal shells and the over-elaborate base and just give me a four pack of the turtles for $20. Bebop and Rocksteady are both $20 four packs with three foot soldiers each, the Krang robot is $40 and comes with two turtles, so are the turtles really 50% of the price of thet set?
I would be willing to pay more to. That's why I bought the collector figures playmates made already, even though they were ultimately disappointing to. For $9, the end result isn't a rip off in anyway by comparison to other lines out there. No, doesn't satisfy me as a collector, but I think they're good toys. I agree that Playmates shouldn't show them with better paint in all the marketing images, but that's typical for marketing. I was referring to the new standard movie figures. Not sure how those playsets compare to other similar playsets. I also really wish Neca wasn't going for foot tall turtles. Their comic turtles are still my favorite turtle figures and would love similarly sized movie based figures.
Anyone have any idea on the Knock Off Revoltech turtles? Was thinking of picking up some since they are a good price.
From what I've read they're really bad quality knock offs. Loose joints and bad paint applications, etc. Revo joints tend to be fiddly to begin with and add to the fact that these aren't quality KO's and you've got some limp figures. Someone reviewed them on here a year or two back from what I remember and what he said was that he had bought them because they were much cheaper than what the actual Revo Turtles go for, but they were so bad he ended up selling them off and just saving up for the legit releases.
gotcha. joints wont be too big a dealbreaker for me. I can always make new ones. the prices are nice for sure though, just cant find anyone in the US selling. hate buying stuff from china
Which is another reason why I want to hurry up and get rid of the "inspired by" movie figures that Playmates put out. You won't be able to give those away if Neca makes good looking movie figures and blows them away--which wouldn't be that difficult to do, frankly.
Bandai/Bluefin also said movie Turtles were on the table if the first four sold well. Bandai is committed to pumping out tons of stuff it seems if the TMNT figures sell.
I hope so, but I don't know what they have in store for sure. The thing about the turtles is that when they make higher priced things, and I mean like $50 and above with some of the imports, I shy away because I know I'm gonna want to get all 4 making the investment go up real fast. That's why I am staying away from the mondo turtles. Five inch Neca movie turtles for under $30 each would be perfect.
Sounds like you're talking about the Mega Bloks sets... and I'm pretty sure the other guy was talking about the Playmates five inch figures.
