lets put it on the line. for 40 years now, boy heroes in movies have 'less of a burden' so that audiences can identify with the main actor asap. why should it be different for girls?
this isn't about demeocracy, equality, feminism, or even good narrative, its about capitalism. a 14 year old actress caters for the largest audience transformer films have. Cos guess what, 15 year old kids would rather date people their age than our old hairy rears... but sure lets make this about feminism and getting Micheal Bay to set the world right (WHY ON EARTH WOULD U ASK HIM.... u might aswell ask Donald T... oh wait...)

That isn't strictly true. She was a total Hollywood unknown and Star Wars will, if she negotiated correctly, be paying her bills until the end of time but she was in a few short films and some British television prior to her casting in Force Awakens.

So yeah, Star Wars was her introduction to Hollywood and short of being able to actually shit her own money you couldn't ask for a better intro song than 'I was a main character in Star Wars mother fuckers'.

I love that movie, and TF could use a little of that more earnest charm to put some colour in it's cheeks.
