While i agree with you that that really does seem to be what they were going for, it's absurd on every level. The panels are still there, and being translucent blue doesn't make them invisible, but does make the truck mode look ridiculous an incomplete ~ and it seems odd that you go this route for making him look "maximum G1" then paint that humongoid Autobrand on the windvane/backpack (which also makes it look really strange in shotgun mode).

    it's just all so weird.

plus, if they'd REALLY gone all out and given this mold a super-premium, super-G1 paint job i'd have been kicking down the doors to find one (and i already have Classics, Henkei and 2014 Evolutions) through in a new 5mm compatible Ion Cannon and a miniature Gun Mode Megs that other characters could wield and you'd have a knocked-out-of-the-park set that i bet a lot of fans would over-pay for.

What's funny is Takara put an Autobot symbol on Cloud Optimus' windvane and it still works. It's not obnoxiously huge and stays on the one piece that folds out.

Leader Prime AOE Takara version is 39.99 at tfsource/bbts right now. I have the Hasbro 10 inch 1st version (my fave of the 2 Hasbro leaders) and I also
grabbed the Takara remold which has great paint ap and cool remolding done to make the figure really pretty decent. If you can find one of those, get that one. Animated is pure love I have a misb version and 2 loose in box versions all of the non autobot symbol on shoulder Hasbro releases. I bought the 3rd thinking he'd have tampod autobot shield but I definitely have more then I need ;)

That's fair. Its really not that bad but I think what it is for me and what makes me hate the Hasbro version, is the head. I HATE the head sculpt if he had a more OPTIMUS looking head I'd forgive the fact he doesn't peg solidly together in alt mode.

I have to be honest though, if I didn't have the mold I'd want it too :p  I love collecting OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRONs

Just waiting for this to drop onto the preorders. Maybe I'll get a G3 trailer too. If the 2-pack is $100 or under I'll get it, as Australian Voyagers are $50 each anyway.

Yes I'm taking into account currency conversion, hence why I'm hoping it'll be $100.

I'd get this for my son if it's out in time for his birthday.

    2 interesting things:
1.) They are releasing a Megatron with a gun alt mode.
2.) The sticker acknowledging the 30th anniversary of the movie - this bodes well for a Hasbro release of the upcoming Hot Rod...

Boy that box art sure is misleading.

I guess the only good thing about this set is there goes yet another theory/excuse, this time that they couldn't release the Classics Megatron mold again unless it was in completely neon colors.

Guys, I have a doubt here.

Classics Megatron can not be released in the States in his original colors? It was actually pretty colorful to me by the way, but not sure if nowadays that is not enough.

Megatron could easily be sold in Australia in his original colours. I checked over the laws and they're pretty lax. As long as they have a specific characteristic that makes them obviously a toy (such as, oh I don't know, a Decepticon symbol on the site) they're fine, even without the dumb orange cap.

Of course Hasbro is American so things are completely different over there.

And I actually really like Meg's new colours and cannot wait for this set. I've already stacked a Parallax trailer.

Anything that works for Nerf should be fine for Transformers too.

Here's an incomplete collage of Nerf blasters and accessories released over the course of the past three or four years, depicted roughly to scale, including multiple color schemes and decos (warning, huge image):

Any of these color schemes should be okay for Megatron. If Hasbro still decides against it, it cannot have anything to do with legal reasons.

By "original" do you mean the first deco for Classics Megatron (orange nerf gun) or the original deco for G1 Megatron (all silver with little orange tip)?

Also, Australia has some of the most strict gun control and toy gun laws around. They might be able to release this guy (bright red and orange) but there's no way they can release anything close to the "original" deco

Those two molds will be around forever.
Megatron looks nice in red, but Prime with transparent cab sides looks awkward if not incomplete.

Nice set for someone who still doesn't own both molds.

Otherwise it will be pricey, will have to be imported and while I really like this red Megatron... I don't think Meg alone warrants this expence. I'm happy enough with United version.

Isn't there some ridiculous law where you need a firearms license to even own MP-5 in Oz?

Yeah, but MP-05 and G1 Megs are very realistic gun models.

Nerf'O'Tron alt mode can hardly be taken for anything real in any paintjob.

Even if painted silver it always has transparent panels on sides.

Really? I double-checked and its not as strict as you'd think. Gun control laws, definitely (and thankfully). But its the fact that we don't generally own guns that allows toys to look a lot more real.

I was referring to the original Walther P-38 deco. With an orange cap it'd be fine.

EDIT: Not trying to start the whole gun debate. Just saying.

Same here. All my toy guns looked like replicas and we're die-cast.
