I think the only issues is that there is a couple other Shockwaves in a sort of MP style already to compare it to.

I can understand people complaining about some things, like color and size, but the whole arguing about which is better between official and 3rd party is basically silly since it just comes down to "get the one you want." Nobody is wrong if they like one over the other.

Anyways, I'm happy to be getting this guy. He does really look good. I think his size is fine, but I am in the camp that he could be darker but it's by no means a dealbreaker. Better still, this is the a new Decepticon MP mold! Now, if there was only a sign of a new Megatron or Galvatron...

I get the feeling if I had read the Marvel comics as a kid I would be wanting a Quakeblast way more than an MP Laserwave right now lol. QB definitely looks the part imo. (Quakewave does too in a different way.)

I decided to get the collector coin version from TFSource, does anyone know how long they usually take to come in compared to the regular ones?

For as much as the cartoon gets bashed there sure are a lot of comic book fans who speak of that material with such reverence that you'd think the comic book artists always drew with care, that they were strict about scale and everything was measured out. LOL You guys know they were working from the same character models and scale charts as the animators, right?

    :lol

Seriously, though. I hope that neck piece holds up over time/transformations. I'll be bummed if Shocky's head vanishes into his torso, never to be seen again.

Wait... what? Why wouldn't this be available in US? Or Canada, Australia, UK or anywhere else for that matter?
Below is a photo of 1/5th of the first page of the listings on the US Target website under "Nerf". At a rough estimate there are at least 50 Nerf guns listed at Target, to say nothing of other brands, water pistols, cap-guns... TRU have an even larger range.
MP-5 is an issue because it's a "replica firearm" It looks like a replica of a Walther P-38. Shockwave looks like a replica of... an alien space laser pistol?
A brave soul could possibly use MP-5 to commit a crime, as long as the victims don't look too closely at the over-sized gun with the gaps etc being aimed at them. Walk into a bank with ANY version of Shockwave and no one will bat an eye.

Actually, I was more of a comic fan than a cartoon one, and this figure fits both roles for me. The comic version was never really a hulking brute. More often than not, he suffered from typical 80's comic artwork that fluctuated depending on the angle of the scene. Heck, most of the time the artwork was painful.
Also, I think the old art combined with the fact the G1 figure was rather giant has somewhat skewed the general population's perception of the character.

"Sort of MP style" is right. Say what you want about heft, colour, diecast, transformation etc, neither QW or QB look like G1 cartoon Shockwave from the waist down. QB pulls off a decent replica of that "All Are Dead" comic cover, but neither are cartoon accurate. Considering how much screaming and wailing and gnashing of teeth goes on in just about any 3P or MP thread if a figure deviates even slightly from the toon aesthetic (TnR Hova - too much leg kibble, MP Magnus - butt flap, KFC Transistor - metallic paint, FT Willy - colour's not right, FT Tesla, face is wrong, MP Tracks - gappy body, MP Hot Rod - flat chest... etc etc) it's astonishing to me that QW get's a free pass for being completely toon inaccurate? Can anyone honestly tell me if QW was released today with those aesthetics, he'd be so readily accepted? And at his price? (I know QB is new, but he's benefiting from the QW nostalgia. Anyone who points at QB and screams "inaccurate" has to then admit that QW is even worse.)
Having said all that, I am seriously considering a QB for my desk at work - the price is pretty good - AUD$108 with free shipping.

This is actually a bit of a glossed over issue, but his head and neck do not actually lock into place in robot mode when you pull them up out of his chest cavity. They stay up via friction alone, and, while it works now, I could see it loosening over time and the head sagging down.

IMO this is one of, if not the worst, design flaw in this figure. I was really stunned when I found out in hand.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the comics personally (though I've read a fair few of them) and there's no question that they were even more inconsistent in color and scale than the cartoon. And purple Soundwave!? Where'd they get that from??

I do kind of like how Shockwave is portrayed in the comics though...

Countdown to Extinction scenario Sunbow (paraphrased):

Starscream: "Megatron is terminated, I am the new leader of the Decepticons"
Shockwave: "Yes Starscream. Whatever you say Starscream"

Countdown to Extinction with Marvel Shockwave (hypothetical):

Starscream: "Megatron is terminated, I am the new leader of the Decepticons"
Shockwave (standing over Starscream's corpse): "I calculated your death to be a 97.6% certainty. It was the only logical conclusion"

    :)

This is actually completely untrue. There is a massive hobby market for replica guns in Japan. Go into any hobby shop in Akihabara and you'll see a section devoted to replicas of guns ranging from tiny pistols up to machine guns that look so close to the real thing you'd be arrested immediately in the US.

Toku stuff is also huge there, and that includes a lot of more futuristic ray guns as well.

Yeah the sinking head is my sole real concern with this figure.

And as soon as I figure out precisely where the problem is and what would best fix it, I will do so immediately. The good news is, being unpainted, it should be a safe fix at least.

    ETA:

Or something like that will turn out to be true hopefully lol

ETA again: the rough google translation suggests you have to pull the head panel up hard and quick with force, and you'll hear a "voice" (which I assume is a mistranslation for click or sound) and it will lock.

Anyone with it in hand care to test this?

It can be locked and secure properly, and which make it looks slightly taller. Check the red color text in this review.

    [????] ???????? MP-29 ???? ?? Shockwave / Destron Laserwave - aiex888??? - ????

Thank you for that.. All I hear when people tout *insert quake of choice here*. When I saw the pic of Lazerwave with the other two I smiled because to me he looks like the Shockwave from the cartoon and unique in his own right while the other two just look like off model clones of each other.

Got the notification today but the question is should I ship it now or wait til Ratchet? I am sort of glad I watched a review before I cancelled my preorder to get one of the 3P options. Honestly noting comes off for the transformation and that really makes me happy.

    Yeah.

Coz Shockwave in gun-mode looks like a replica gun. You should totally use him in airsoft games.

    Oh, wait...

    Hmm.

    My quick translation:

The upper body is comparatively easier to deal with, but there is a part of the transformation that you need to note, that is, there's actually a catch underneath the head panel. Slowly lift the head up and you may notice that the part below the neck simply won't lock accurately/properly; it's in reality very simple, you just need to lift the head post upwards until it's near the top, quickly use a little strength to pull it upwards, hear a click, your head will be securely locked in. What is movable will only be the ball on the neck, very interesting.
