I thought it was going to be completely gold like the Rodimus Cobra Zartan had a while back. Gold rims was all I could see. Pretty cool none the less.
The exact number isn't known. I think it got some store distribution (i.e., some were sent to stores to give away), which makes it hard to figure out. But judging by the number that showed up on ebay over the years, probably 25 ~ 50 were made. That one used to be mine. Wow amazing! How did you get a hold of them and how much did you sell it for and when? It's highly unlikely that eBay one will sell for $7K anytime soon.

It was in Toys R Us in the U.S. back around 2000. It was one of Tek Toys' last releases, I believe. If you want one, I believe I still have one MISB in my closet. I'll have to double-check, though. Where I got them from is my secret I sold the one for $800 ungraded in January. The person I sold it to graded it and sold it to the person selling it now for like $2400 a few weeks/months back.
Most of my collection isn't AFAed, just a few MISB/MOSC pieces I have. I didn't AFA it because at the time it didn't seem like it would increase the value. Someone had tried to sell an AFA 85 gold Optimus for around $900 about 6 months before I sold mine for $800, and no one bid on it. Plus, I wasn't as into AFAing stuff then as I am now, and it can be expensive to AFA big items.
It was rumored the KO Prime guys were going to tackle this one as well. Haven't heard anything on that in a while, but I'll be on it in a heartbeat if they do.
