Even if he *does* end up lavender i'm totally having this guy. The silhouette is pretty much perfect, and for a sad grownup who just puts these toys in cupboards that's one of my biggest draws... Well, that and that nobody else will want him because he looks too effeminate for the seething testosterone he-men of the toy collecting game, so is guaranteed Rarity status.

I've not watched the G1 cartoons for years now, but as far as i can remember his colours were all over the place anyway - is there a particular period (i presume the movie?) the TT colour schemes have come from so far, or are they a fairly mixed bag?

Greenscream doesn't count, because he was part of the brief, glorious, time then Takara took to pumping vaporised MDMA directly into the aircon to enhance the creativity of the team. Within a few months employees had stopped wearing trousers altogether and eventually at the height of the experiment they created the legendary Ejector. The whole operation was quietly hushed up by the company.

erm... not sure if this was discussed before, but from the way the backpack is attached from the butt, it seems he'll not have a waist swivel? If so, that's a /very/ bad design choice in this day and age, esp after they arguably gave up aesthetics for posability...

    huh, good spot.

if he does have one i guess you'll have to leave the barrel untabbed to use.

It seems clear he has a waist swivel. If the back pack is attached both above and below the waist I assume it's just a matter of unplugging it from his butt to engage the swivel. So in other words:

Remove the butt plug to engage waist action.

Not at all worried for this guy - I think he'll be incredible in hand. Also looking forward to another big MP box! As for Quakewave, well I sold mine a few days after this guy was revealed and will never look back.

The sooner FansToys' Dibots are done and dusted, the better. I actually can't wait to be out of that scene.

Takara usually base the colours on the 1986 movie.

Which, for the record, looks a fuck ton of lot like the purple from that magazine scan.

It's definitely not attached to his butt. That round purple part is the hinge that connects the grey underpart of the muzzle to the purple armature hinged behind his head and it ends up below his wrist in gun mode. There's no need for it to peg   into his butt in either mode, so it most likely doesn't.

It might get in the way a bit, but as long as he has close to average human range of motion in his waist I'll be satisfied. Anything more than that just looks unnatural, robots or not.

The backpack does not attach to his rear. If you look closely, the hinge for his viewfinder is the one on his rear, and the one attached to the backpack is separate- part of the double hinged arm assembly that allows his barrel to move from the front of the gun mode to sit on his back. Those hinges are just close together and the photo makes them look connected at a far glance.

He can definitely rotate his waist.

Yeah exactly what i thought, it's my only real complaint though, just about everything else looks good or forgivable. Still very excited about this guy and hopeful the final colour will be a darker more blue-ish purple.

Because the colour is very 'toony'? It's like the difference between Hasbro Prime and TT MP-10 - same figure, but Hasbro's doesn't look as expensive (which, technically, it wasn't ;)  ).

It seems to me that sometimes they go with colours or aesthetics from random episodes rather than the general appearance.

The light purple color really bothers me. I wonder if they will release a darker version.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing $160 there. He barely looks more complicated as a $50 leader class figure. Maybe I could see $80 like Ironhide, but this figure just doesn't have enough to warrant the high price tag. The color is terrible as well.

MP-10 with the trailer can be had for $200. The Hasbro version with all the accessories is $160.

Maybe we'll see a Hasbro TRU Shockwave for $90.
