I wouldn't say 200 million domestic is bad word of mouth, that is pretty damn impressive still. However you are right, I usually base my opinion around the publics general consensus as well rather than critics and such but that's just me.

Really depends on the type of film.

If a smaller budget film that the studio didn't market aggressively made $200 million domestically it would be one of those miracle stories of the tiny film that could.

For a studios second string film of the year it's a success. Every film can't be the mega ultra huge blockbuster tent pole event type film. But you still have big films that aren't the studios biggest guns so $200 million is hey this film did good.

But then you have those mega ultra huge blockbuster tent pole event films and for those films $200 million domestic would be seen as a failure. For example if the new Batman v Superman only took in $200 million Warner Brothers would be scrambling to figure out how to fix their DC live action universe.

The bar for success is pretty high these days. 2014 you had 13 films making $200 million or better. 2015 you had 9 films cross that mark. But for the studios biggest films $200 million seems like pocket change compared the $887 million of The Force Awakens, the $652 million of Jurassic World, or the $459 million of Age of Ultron.

It's the trailers which always get me.

The trailers are notorious for false hope.

Regardless of what some chum behind a computer screen says. Your opinion is the one that matters. Even if it causes WW3...

Dark of the Moon raised my hopes for a truly excellent Transformers film. Age of Extinction ran that hope down like the overly long freight train it is.

I'm just going to see the movie to see which toys looked the best onscreen, and which characters actually get to be characters. Other than that, I'm expecting what everyone should really be expecting from Mr. Bay at this point: more of the same.

The trailers are always going to be good, regardless of the quality of the film it's advertising. Heck, Age of Extinction had the best trailers and so many great TV spots, and yet it's not even my second favorite movie.

This is kind of a moot topic anyhow. You know critics are going to pan this thing harder than Genesys. :lol

I'll see it. Not sure if I'll be able to handle one a year though.

Although Bay almost certainly can't do them all, so maybe it will help.

We're laughing at the fact that there's no chance the movie will get good reviews. Even if it was as good as Empire Strikes Back, critics would verbally abuse it all day long.

Because it's Bay directing, history gives rise to incidentally hate.

Even if it's "decent" it will barely go higher than 60%.

"his best" movies are at a 50% minimum.

and I say this as a guy who likes The Rock, Pain and Gain, The first half of The Island and Transformers 1 only, with the bits of Hound and Crosshairs from AOE.

As someone whose tastes and motivations for going to the cinema are vastly different from the regular person, I've hardly ever read movie reviews or got opinions from friends/family.

If the premise or trailer intrigues me or gives me an inkling that it haves what I'll enjoy, then I'll watch it. For Transformers, I've been there on opening night for all 4 movies so far, and that won't change for future releases.

You know what would be cool? If there was somewhere on the internet where people who enjoy the TF films could go to talk about the possible future direction, characters, and things they'd like to see.....

    .......

    ...............

    ........................

.............................without having to deal with obnoxious people who butt in after 10 seconds to say the exact same things they've been saying over and over since 2007 about how they hate the direction the movies have gone and how it's all dead to them.

Wouldn't that be cool? That'd be so cool.

It's gotten to the point where I'd actually be interested in a separate movie forum where trolling was outlawed, and earned you a 2 week ban. Constructive (including critisism) comments only, actual discussion. No post allowed unless it was on topic and did not try to derail the thread.

Mods....aw, who am I kidding, judging by the characters here, that'd be a full time job requiring a salary. One can dream.

Oh mr woe is you, that door swings both ways! Be nice to find a place where transformers fans can discuss their dissatisfaction with the movieverse and how it could be improved with out someone trolling in about how the MCU sucks or G1 was badly made, or people that hate the movies are nazis or whatever.

Hey wait a minute, I found that place, it's right here. Just start a thread called Movieverse Lovers only thread. F**k I might start it for you!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you prove a point for me.
