In an interview, Vince DiCola said he composed the music to storyboards, instead of the actual film. So he didn't know exactly how long the cues would be. If you notice, there is a lot of loopable music to cover that, hence some of the "extended" tracks.

Does a blu-ray version really make any sense? Are we really going to gain anything from the original source stock by bumping up the res, other than showing up inconsistencies in the lining/inking and the quality of the film stock?

And for more cast interviews...I'm not sure we can get anything more out of the existing cast. Their recollections of what was probably "just another run of recording sessions" are going to be might hazy - after all, it's been 30 years!It was a hell of a long time ago, and they're not exactly getting any younger either.

Perhaps I'm just being overly cynical about this. As much as I love the franchise and the movie, there's only so much we can do to celebrate the latter. I begged and pleaded to see the only 1-day showing of the movie in our local cinema - and seeing the movie on the big screen is something I clearly remember to this day. I don't think a 30th anniversary edition will do anything to surpass that memory or make it any more magical.

Now, of they were to re-animate the movie with CG to the original soundtrack, THAT would be something pretty awesome. I'd pay good money for that.

 

I have it on Blu Ray already, and yeah it really does make a hell of a difference especially on some 'busy' shots. Like where Unicron is eating Lithone and the colour pallet is all reds and all then planet particles are flying around the picture is incredibly bitty and artifacty on DVD, but not on BD.

 

Yeah....I imagine whomever authored the DVD prints has to make some tough choices for encoding, which wouldn't be an issue on blu-ray. So for that reason alone, I can see the logic in a 30th anniversary edition.

 

I hope they release a 30th anniversary dvd/blu ray because the older ones on Amazon go for calmost $100.

Actually, I think that version is the Australian Madman version. It uses the same film file as the UK Blu Ray so supposedly the film is identical (I don't have the UK version, I have the Aus version) but the Aus version is definitely region locked to Australia and the UK and won't play in US Blu Ray players.

 

I have both the UK and the AUS version of the movie on Blu-Ray and they both play fine in my in my PS3 and standalone Blu-Ray player here in the US.

 

I have the UK version, and it does play fine on my Region A, non-unlocked Blu-Ray player, but we still need a domestic release (in North America and anywhere else outside of the UK and Australia) because:

• We have to special order. You can't just go out and grab one.
• The film print being used could benefit from some some cleanup and remastering that are common in anniversary releases.
• The Madman releases use MPEG2 compression (that's DVD technology). Most Blu-Rays use the more efficient h.264 compression, which is better at avoiding compression artifacts and not exaggerating noise, all while taking up less room on the disc (or while allowing higher quality at the same size and bitrate).
• It's expensive! Expect to pay about $50 USD for the import. A domestic release of the same quality should cost between $20-30 USD.

 

After watching the movie 2 days ago i feel very deeply that they need to give us a new toon that takes place after rebirth. Make it more for US the grown ups. Mature themes and thought provoking topics. One can dream right   They should make a definitive single universe instead of this multiverse we have now. I wouldn't even mind if they idw it. I just need something with substance and big balls!

 

Is Hasbro going to do anything special for the movie this summer when it hits 30 years?

 

I personally would like something that takes place on Cybertron and without human kid sidekicks. They add nothing except the typical "human kid gets kidnapped, Autobots rescue him, big fight, the end" plot. It's completely over done..

 

Really? I heard somewhere (presumably on this site) that the AUS BD wouldn't play on US players... why would someone say that? Somebody wanted an excuse not to buy it? Odd.

Having said that I would love a new BD, at least with flamepanthers tech suggestions. Also the current BD only has Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, so the sound is sampled at just 48kHz... which for a BD may as well be the stone ages.

So yeah I'd like a HD audio 2 channel (so just like the cinema) and a remastered 7.1 HD audio track as well as the 5.1 track. I mean, why not?
