Is his head pushed forward and not centered above his legs? That's kinda odd.

 

He definitely has a bit of a "wearing my dad's sweatshirt" syndrome going on, but I don't think it's as noticeable when he's with other figures.

 

I feel sad. I'm losing interest for what Takaratomy offers. I'm more excited about KOs, Up-scales and 3rd party offerings lately.  

 

All I need is a video review..  

 

What does everyone think is wrong with this figure? He is everything I have always wanted in a Hot Rod figure. Maybe I am just simple minded and easy to please.

 

It's that backpack that made me cancel my preorder on this guy. Not because he has one - which is par for the masterpiece course on many figures - but that his trademark wing looks like garbage. TOTALLY throws off the figure's look. His wing should anchor his silhouette, not be an afterthought hanging off the back of it with an entire backpack between it and his head. Terrible aesthetic fail. Now, if the wing was positioned BETWEEN his 'back' and his backpack, directly above the gray and red hinges, things would look pretty darn good... but I just can't get past that wing being a mile behind him.

But I get that a lot of people won't care, so Takara isn't going to miss my purchase. I'll be getting the Fans Toys Hoodlum or Maketoys Targetmaster version instead. Assuming they never release, I'll just have to have him represented as his matured self, in the aesthetically gorgeous Carry.

 

After Ironhide , I'll reserve judgement till after I have him in hand . We've seen it with every release so far . Somethings off , don't look right , maybe out of place , doesn't have the MP look .. It's always something. Then we get our hands on him , see an actual review , people take great pics , and of of a sudden , our frowns turn upside down. I think we'll be ok in the end with this guy.

I have to agree. Ironhide is better in hand and there's a good chance that Hot Rod will be too.

Granted, I wasn't impressed with Tracks from the get go and I did find him slightly better than I originally thought, but I still find him quite a bit disappointing. Ironhide is a step in the right direction and Hot Rod could be another step in said direction.

 

I like Tracks (and like Road Rage better) but I can't decide if I like this. I'm not sure why. I usually am pretty clear in my tastes. There is a lot to like about this, but there's something I can't put my finger on that makes me hesitate.

 

If it handles much better and is much more study than MP-09 then MP-09 has been surpassed in my eyes. I don't mind the sculpt of MP-28. Have there been any pics of it holding Offshoot?

 

Carry has a backpack and can't even turn into a sleek hot rod
I'd much rather have this then a Winnebago I have Optimus for that or at worse you could get a magnus

I never cared for rodimus prime vehicle mode reminds me of lone stars ship from space balls space winnebago is 80s gone wrong it looks like it needs a wizard or unicorn painted on the side lol

It's that inch between his head and his backpack - and the wimpy little low-slung wing that practically disappears in a front view - that kills this for me. Backpacks alone don't bother me as long as they don't ruin the overall aesthetic. I tend to display in robot mode though, and this guy's vehicle mode is competent enough. But not lookin' for that.

And yeah, I don't think anybody loved the Cybertron molester van mode, but what are you gonna do.?  

 

Fair enough I'll totally agree with you that the wing would look better higher from the front his shoulder silhouette over all seems a lil off
I think they did that for posing but the wing could be placed better for sure

And if that doesn't work for you I could understand that

 

He doesnt look anything like in the cartoon, and since the entire purpose of the masterpiece line is to recreate the cartoon aesthetic, I can safely say I will never buy this figure. In terms of accuracy MP-09 is far more accurate. I prefer him even with his terrible transformation and fragile nature.

I agree as people have brought up before that there is no real good way to have it cartoon accurate and make a spot on vehicle mode
To an extent they didn't draw the characters transforming realistically
And hot rod most definitely as gonna have some kind of minus to at least one mode to be show accurate

I think this is a pretty good compromise to two quality modes and would much rather have a fifure at this price that isn't gonna break and be fragile

I honestly think that most people who love mp09 really like rodimus prime and not hot rod as I think he makes a so so hot rod
And if that's your thing more power to you
But I have no love for mp09
Maybe this isnt perfect but it will do for me unless something better comes along

And again I think it captures the spirit of hot rod much better while 09 really is a rodimus prime piece

 

Hotrod looks good next to Unique Toys Blurr. Hotrod was a little shorter than Kup and Blurr.

 

Not sure if I've mentioned this before but in my mind Hotrod never had "matrix storage" untill after his body was upgraded by the matrix?

Hope this gimmick wasn't at the expense if anything else.

 

I am excited for him but still have the mindset he doesn't look masterpiece.

What seperates him from Voyager springer ? I can't see anything that justifies the price difference, with springer you can see where costs were cut, wrist articulaion, ankle tilt etc. All these extra things which go to make a budget figure to a premium. I'm seeing the same limitations with hotrod.

As I said before, "Masterpiece" should have been dropped long ago or done properly. Would rather pay more and have no budget restricted robots.

Still, well excited for him as he's a new hotrod
