Ever since the 18th, Star Wars fans have reconfirmed umpteen thousands of times over that, yup, they are indeed still the worst. The stereotypes are true. Though, Star Trek fans still come in at a VERY close second.

My Little Pony fans are still just fucking creepy and will always get the #1 spot for that category.

Everything else, including us TF fans, tie everyone else for a solid third place, especially when it comes to the division of G1 fans, Beast Wars fans and Bayformer fans.

I agree with the above. As both a Star Wars and TF fan, I get to experience both sides of the fandoms. If we TF fans have a disagreements over Movie and G1, Star Wars fans have full on battles over whether the Prequels should be cannon or not.

Yeah, Force Awakens being hated by so much of the SW fandom has convinced me they simply can never be pleased with a SW movie because they will never be 9 years old again.

Are you sure that's not just a vocal minority?

Maybe, but a few of them being awfully loud and whiny. *cough*cough*thosethreateningtospoilitifitdidn'tincorporateEUorsomedumbshitlikethat*cough*cough*....

I'm a Star Wars fan and I loved the movie. *shrugs* To each their own.

I get the feeling this will happen every time we get a new Star Wars film after an extended period of time. I mean, c'mon this is exactly what happened when The Phantom Menace came out.

You know, we shouldn't forget that the 2007 TF Movie received the same reception....

Probably. Everyone I've talked to says it was frickin' amazing. The really dedicated SW fanbase is basically entirely composed of the kind of TF fans we call gee-whiners. I forgot how much I hated SW fans until you brought them up.

Somehow, I don't find this at all surprising. Guess history really does repeat itself. I mean, we can't all love, or in some cases hate, the same thing. There's always going to be second opinions no matter what.

I still can't comprehend it. Like I said, everyone I know considers it to be the best one since the OT, so I'm forced to assume either A) Star Wars fans are completely unreasonable even compared to us TF fans and will whine about ANYTHING, or B) the people who loved it aren't going around trumpeting how great it is with the same emphasis the louder, stupider side of the SW fanbase is. For what it's worth, IMDB's user score is 8.6/10 and RT's audience score is 91%, so it probably is an obnoxiously loud minority.

Hell, my cousin said that it was better as a movie (as in writing, direction, acting) than the OT was, so it's my professional opinion that the SW fanbase is basically entirely composed of GEEWUNNERS.

Well....in all honesty, I think people do have expectations of what and how they want their beloved franchise to be in their own way. When those expectations are not met, you get a certain level of disappointment depending on the person. And in that disappointment you get varied reactions. I've talked to all sides, those who love it, those who liked it, those who thought it was "okay" for what it was, those who thought it could be better, those who didn't like it, and those who absolutely thought Michael Bay had a hand in molesting their childhood once again :lol

It's a whole spectrum of opinions. It all depends on one's outlook I guess. People will be people. Can't change that. But like Incepticon said, there are those who will fight as if flexing their nerd e-peen in a pathetic attempt at dominance is supposed to be a cool thing. Like...them knowing every minute detail about any given franchise makes them a better "fan" than you. It's whateverz. I figure, if people want to immerse themselves in that kind of drama and create for themselves a toxic environment to where they're practically ruining any and all experiences for themselves (to say nothing about ruining it for others), then....that's ok. I'll sit back and enjoy the things that they want to feverishly hate. :)

    Negative opinions, oh no?
Is it worse than "it's been twenty years yet I still HAVE to rant about 'are you an angel' any time the subject even remotely turns Star Wars"?

I dunno, compared to flooding the child-orientated fanbase with fetish porn or harassing one person to the point of suicide over drawing a character too skinny, complaints directed at the actual media seems kind of a non-issue.

That's my point -- this thread is full of blanket assumptions based on the worst representatives.

You're not forced to do anything though. You're trying to take the easy route, while insulting G1 fans at the same time.

There's a difference between "G1 fans" and "GEEWUNNERS." G1 fans like G1, but they might also like other aspects of TF - I'm a G1 fan, despite growing up almost a decade after the G1 cartoon ran its course - while GEEWUNNERS rabidly hate anything that ISN'T exactly the same as the stuff they grew up with. Pokemon fans have the same problem, only they're called GENWUNNERS instead of GEEWUNNERS. From what I've heard on this thread, and from what I've generally seen, the Star Wars fanbase has an unhealthy amount of GEEWUNNERS.

Adaption, interpretations, and remakes are a double-edged sword. You have to respect the source material and move forward. The problem is that you are aiming to make something for the public not the fans. People will end up hatting it because it doesn't cater to them and that's to be expected.

With that in mind, we're here to talk about which group of fans' reactions are the worst due to fact that they aren't the same as the public's. Remember this before pointing fingers.

I genuinely hope it is, sir. I'd prefer to think better of them, for sure.

I've definitely heard that contingents hate Rey, hate it wasn't dark enough, hate "the big surprise I won't spoil in case someone hasn't seen it but you know the one", hate that it didn't actively retcon the prequels, and hate that it didn't follow the EU.

In some fandoms, the new media for it become some unhappy folks' white whale:

"All that most maddens and torments; all that stirs up the lees of things; all truth with malice in it; all that cracks the sinews and cakes the brain; all the subtle demonisms of life and thought; all evil, to crazy Ahab, were visibly personified, and made practically assailable in Moby-Dick. He piled upon the whale's white hump the sum of all the general rage and hate felt by his whole race from Adam down; and then, as if his chest had been a mortar, he burst his hot heart's shell upon it."

I do believe so - matches my memory of it (especially the slight differences to how Picard paraphrased it in New Contact). I grabbed it off Wikiquotes.

Wonderfully apt, isn't it? Not just for Internet rage but the general impotent anger we all feel in life. I see myself in it in various ways; when I'm bizarrely angry at something, disproportionate to the thing in question, because I build up such a plaque of frustration and anger at work, while driving, etc. I just try to make sure it's never allowed to vent at my wife and kids.
