I hope this new trilogy doesn't try to pretend that Coruscant doesn't exist. What happened to Coruscant? Is it under the First Order's control ?

Isn't First Order mostly in Outer Rim trying to gather up strength? Want to see it again.

Pretty sure 8 and 9 won't pay so much homage to OT as it won't be an introduction story and JJ will only produce.

Since Coruscant is a core world at the "center" of the SW galaxy, the 1st order was not in firing range. However when the New Republic came to be, the capital was moved to Hosnian Prime, which is on the outer edge of the "core", which was destroyed. I bet that you'll see the capital moved back to Coruscant due to its location and it housing the infrastructure needed to run a government.

That map... kinda makes no sense.

If the Royal Starship was on the way to Corescant from Naboo, then Tatooine is a bit out of the way.

Ironically Tatooing (a very dry planet) is in the same area as Geonosis, one of the wettest planets?

Geonosis is mostly desert though....I don't recall much water at the battle of Geonosis in AoTC.

I guess when we're talking galactic scale, "nearby" is relative. Tatooine is certainly closer to Naboo than Coruscant, but then so is Sullust and Malastare. But then again, distances and scales in space are things you just have to ignore in most science fiction, especially science fantasy like Star Wars.

What keeps bothering me is why Rakata Prime is on that map. Is it supposed to be the planet with the first Jedi Temple that Luke is on?

They're star systems, they can have any type of planets in them. Look at Earth, Mars and Jupiter all side by side in the same system, but completely different.

It missing the Hyperlanes, the routes to and from various planets via hyperspace, Tatooine is just off the major one from the core worlds, Naboo isn't near any and would require more jumps to get to it.

Exactly. Why didn't Luke train the new generation of Jedi at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant? Also, if the First Order decides to use a clone army then who do they use as the template?

Oh wait... I think I got that wrong. What was the Cloner planet called? The one removed from the Jedi Archives?

Not seeing (what remains of) Alderaan on that map. Speaking of which, during the movie I was really expecting
Rey to collapse as she felt all those souls/voices silenced in terror when those multiple inhabited planets were instantly destroyed by the Starkiller Base super weapon, but it looks like she didn't even register the destruction of all those people at all. I found that odd while watching the film when Obi-Wan felt the deaths of Alderaan's population so acutely in A New Hope.

So when he was shouting, "Traitor!" to Finn, he was really saying his own name? :D

Wouldn't the star systems also revolve around the core such that that map would only be accurate once every few decades? Otherwise Coruscant was a lot closer to Starkiller. At any rate, apparently supplemental materials say the New Republic kept moving its capital so as not to create a centralized power base like Coruscant proved to be for Palpatine.

Having a huge domestic box office is another argument for it's not that American's will never go to the movies but if the box office is down it's because studios aren't putting out the sort of films that get people excited to rush off to the movie theater.

It's also nice to know where the high water mark is for the box office. Makes it easier to figure out how much of the potential other films are tapping when you have a high water mark to compare those films to.

I don't see Tython either. You spend an assaninely long time trying to stop this locals from killing each other there in the MMO, so I'd hope it's still there at least.

What was the name of the system the Star Killer destroyed? The one that looked like Coruscant, but wasn't?

Its not boxed in red like the other TFA planets, Luke's planet doesn't look like it and it doesn't match up with the map in the movie.

Most likely they didn't want to leave a blank space there and Rakata Prime is the most well known planet around that spot, plus Old Republic stuff is generally well regarded by both the guys at Lucasfilm and the fanbase. It's not like the new canon is short of other references to that material either, I wouldn't be surprised if a tidied up version of it all becomes a big thing in 10 years or so when they've exhausted the current direction of the franchise.

Palps used the temple building as his palace during the imperial era, so its probably full of dark side force mojo at that point. Plus keeping the new Jedi away from the political and economic centers of the Galaxy is probably a good idea considering what happened to the order the last time.

As for the clone template, anyone they want. There's an entire galaxy of people to choose from and Snoke probably already has a genome in his pocket since he's been playing the long game.
