Beast former is another category which is hard to handle (aka shell formers.)
Also, I doubt how any repaint/remold can reuse on this model?

Let's just hope we do not have purple monkey.

Have some more: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

    ;)

They might be visible if you have him on all fours, but if you have him standing upright I think the panels will conceal the joints. At least to some degrees. It’s not really worrying me to be honest.

The render makes it look pretty close to the original back from 1996. It doesn't look like much of an improvement. Guess I'll wait for the final to see how "masterpiece" it truly is. There's got to be something special. Takara Masterpiece always takes one of the modes and makes it super awesome looking in relation to a specific picture or type.

I just knew that by time I finished editing that into my post, somebody will have replied to me, saying that. Well, that's what happens when I'm slow.

    Also, thanks for the gifs.

Happens to me all the time :lol

    You're welcome.

I'm pretty sick of reading this already. Look at the ape head, the chest and the legs, imagine how this transforms as opposed to the original toy and then say again that it isn’t an improvement. Sure, robot mode looks similar to the Ultra class Primal, but only if you take the updated sculpt which was made to look like the cartoon model.

And we haven’t even seen a working prototype yet, we haven’t seen any of his weapons which are incorporated into the body. Just wait to see something awesome like his arm panels sliding out and have the arm cannons come out super fluidly and clean. Just wait to see his shoulder cannons and the jetpack.

There’s so much left to see with this toy, even something standard like having the ape stand upright which the original toy could never do without looking stupid that I can’t stand how many people are already going around like "looks like not much of an improvement".

I'll happily live with that. Plus it means that just as Ironhide has buns of wheel, Primal will have bright red monkey booty. :lol

Then stop looking at the thread. People will have opinions and they won't always line up with yours, and because they're opinions, no one is actually right.

Besides, I highly doubt there's anyone deciding not to purchase Masterpiece Optimus Primal based solely on this CAD model shown off in this magazine.

Looks quite promising, though I'll echo the sentiment that at first glance the design seems a lot like a tweak on the original Ultra Primal toy design ( or the Robotmaster Deluxe ). On second glance, it would appear there might be some intricate stuff going on in the torso area to make a more screen-accurate proportion, with the ape mode appearing more bottom-heavy than the robot.

The heel spurs on the gorilla feet are pretty ugly, but probably necessary if it's expected to stand up.

I'm really want to see the final product. I think the original toy was very good, actually is better than many Transformers nowadays.

looking good so far. I wonder if they will actually try and use some sort of flock as furr rather then it being plastic.

I don't like Beast Wars, but I don't mind BW fans having a few MP releases dedicated to them. Just as long as it doesn't take over the entire line.

While there is definitely a lot going on here, and a lot of little tweaks and things that will be cool, the problem with Beast Wars and Optimus Primal specifically is that his show model isn't all that different from his toy, and his original toy is fantastic despite an intrusive arm gimmick. The Beast Wars Returns version is basically a Masterpiece already.

There just isn't near as much room for improvement when we get to the era of articulation and detail, beyond lines where the brand took significant steps backward like Armada. Once Kenner took over, TransFormers became true action figures, even moreso than many other competing humanoid lines.

So on the one hand he's exciting, because the attention to detail is going to make you smile. But on the other hand, he's a little disappointing and underwhelming because he resembles the original so much in both modes. And as is the nature of the line, there is some compromise here, and it is much harder to hide in an organic 3d form than on the underside of a jet or a car.

Megatron will have a lot more to improve upon including a hand/detachable claw, much imroved backpack kibble, and better T-rex articulation. Characters like Dinobot and Blackarachnia are also great candidates that varied a lot from toy to show and have never quite had that proper representation (although I like Henkei Dinobot a lot).

Still, it is early. But unless they somehow come up with a perfect beast mode, he's really not going to be overwhelmingly impressive like some other Masterpieces.

I don't have an Optimus Primal figure yet, so I'll probably pick this up and never need another. I just hope they do Megatron next.

I think people are forgetting that this figure looks to be actually articulate in beast mode without looking janky and disjointed. If it manages to pack the same massive arsenal and get some form of fur detailing it'll be even better. But it's a instaget regardless. Optimus Primal was my re-entry to Transformers as a teen. Beast Wars managed to merge my love for things like Bioboosted Armor Guyver and transforming robots into one entity.

I still don't get how this is being made instead of Armada Optimus, who came in second place.

Looks pretty nice. I don't collect Masterpieces but this is quite tempting.

Because Armada won't have an anniversary for another 2-7 years.

I'm perfectly alright with this being made in mostly plastics...So long as its well made.

MP cars aren't casted entirely using diecast too so I can live with that.
