First character is always male.

If there's multiple slots, I'll throw in at least one female, because most games that have multiple slots are ones where the story can be different depending on choices you make, such as your character's gender, and i want to experience everything i possibly can from a game.

 

When I want to play "me" I typically choose a male, but when I'm playing character of my own design it can be male or female. Hell, I have all the schematics saved so any time I play Saints Row III or IV I can accurately recreate my girlfriend's face.

 

I think I get plenty of people giving me rides in GTAV as a girl.

One guy who'd been hanging with my (mute) self did ring me once. So I had to answer with (in my best gravelly imitation)
"I don't know who you are, I don't know what you want, if you're looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have is a great ass"
I get a response of surprise and laughter. That is fun.... to me.

And as someone else said, if I have to look at a butt for days on end, it's definitely not gonna be some.. dude.

I also like the cute outfits.

 

It depends on the design. Usually I end up playing as the male character because their design ended up appealing to me more. I'm a girl BTW. I don't find myself getting less into the game because I'm playing as a male character and I don't find myself more into it if I'm playing as a girl.

If I get to make a character I look at the options and make a character I think will either look coolest or fit in the best.

So I didn't vote in the poll because there was no "it depends on the design" option.

 

you know what, just realized only game that I chose to play as female for the gender option, is Mass Effect, cause I like female Sheppard as a character, design wise and personality wise, I dunno, just always felt like she was the better commander then male Sheppard, even if they're the same people.

Plus I like Jennifer Hale.

 

I'm a dude who mostly plays female characters.

 

Im a dude who likes to play as a chick. This has led me be a pro as Cammy & Chun Li in Street Fighter and have an advantage against my brother who is ten times better than me. And in Minecraft Pocket Edition I've been using Anime Women as skins.

The only exception is Skyrim & Stick of Truth, cause bro, now I can be in South Park! In Skyrim though I have two save files, one as a male & one as female.

 

I'm female in RL, but the majority of my characters tend to be male. Most of the time, for me, I do it cause the males tend to either be better designed or look better in their gear (majority of my toons in WoW are male, either Draenei or Worgen). I also do this in games like Pokémon cause I just don't care for how most of the females look. It's hard for me to make a female toon in many games cause there's rarely any I feel I can relate to.

Sometimes I also just prefer to have a guy to stare at.

GW2 is one of the few places I have several female toons cause I like the female Charr and Asura.

 

That's cause all Charr are awsome.

 

If i can choose I'll pick a guy if it must be a girl like tombraider that's fine.

 

it really depends on which one has the better equipment, character customization options, and things like that. in MMO's, it's usually females, as an example. they usually have the better looking equipment in my opinion. not referring to the overexposure outfits, but like the anime inspired MMO's. and I even like the armor in games like Skyrim better, on the females, than the males. even though it is the same armor. and in some cases, i think the males have better armor/clothing. like in the ones where the armor is impractical on females.

however, i do like to buy games with female protagonists. since they are rarely done. however, most of them tend to be awesome games.

playing a "badass" guy is kind of cliche in video games now. can we have more "badass" females? lol that's all i am asking for.

 

I don't mind either way. But if given the choice, I tend to pick the girls. Playing through all of Mass Effect as fem-Shep, Chun Li has always been my go-to in street fighter, I beat smash bros. with almost all the girls first, etc etc. Don't know- more aesthetically pleasing?

 

I use to love messing around with online gamers minds when it comes to gender.

My first encounter with online play and gender choice was in PSO for the dreamcast.

Not sure how my vote would reflect this then it dawned on me.

 

I'm a guy, who usually plays female toons, unless my wife likes the game too, then I'll roll a dude so its less weird when we play together. Yeah I'm weird. Whenever I make a male toon in an rpg or mmo, I spend most of the cutscene time spamming the skip button while thinking 'Fine fine fine shutup lemme go kill shit'. I dont play games to be 'Me', I go as far away from that as possible.

 

I will play as a female anytime the option is available. Would rather stare at her behind for 10 hours than some dude lol. Plus I like bad ass chicks.

You know I don't know what world would make that possible, but it would be interesting to see.

Also whenever anyone writes or says the word "Problematic" I always hear it in Mordin's voice. I don't know why, but I do.

 

Yup that's my rationale. Would much rather be staring at the female figure for massive hours if I'm investing into a mmo, action rpg or whatnot.

I still have male avatars eventually too, but I always start with a female.

 

Male typically, but depends on my mood. The more customization options, the more likely the character is to look like me (male).
