In short, the Predacons unwittingly helped give rise to the very humans who would go on to help the Autobots defeat the Decepticons.

I love it when villains wind up creating their own worst enemies.

Again Dino bot takes a question from Shakespeare.

I loved his soliloquies back then and I still do.

Code of Hero is seriously like. . . the pinnacle of TF cartoon storytelling. It's the culmination of everything that Dinobot has gone through for 2 whole seasons. If you had someone watch Code of Hero without having seen any other BW ep, I don't think it would have an impact. They'd be like, "That's nice. Whatever."
But for people watching the show that have watched this character grow over 2 seasons, that have taken in all of the character growth and seen this guy grow from a pissed off Predacon to a grudging ally to a legitimate friend, this episode is the biggest payoff any TF series has ever had.

There are other episodes yet to come that are very cool and I love them, but nothing like Code of Hero. CoH is the one ep that makes everyone realize how much they actually love the characters.

"Well, that early human got his hammer.
This is where the intelligence begins developing I guess."

This can [also] be seen as Dinobot inadvertently introducing the ability to arm ourselves against obstacles or threats.
In effect, becoming the "God of War".

Megs has been drinking I guess.

    Yes! :D

Megatron, a dick? perish the thought!

Ummm... I don't know about that. Remember he's a horrific sadist.

TBF, he's suggesting stasis lock, which isn't a death sentence. It's just... kind of the next best thing. Transmutate is severely deformed and already hinging on burnout.

Transmutate isn't an anything, really. It's like a baby, easily swayed to either side.

To make a good, self-contained episode I guess.

Also, back in '96 before this episode aired, a gag version of it's scipt leaked that had some raunchy humour in it, and people weren't sure if it was real or not. Also, transmutate's voiced by Sue Blu, G1 Arcee's VA.

How indeed? He knew the whole time.

There's some creepy characterization for ya.

When you leave your stasis pod out in the sun too long and it spoils...

The scream and a good heart are about all it's got. :(

Silverbolt is particularly upset because he's a freaky pod weirdo too.

It was supposed to be a euthanasia story, but got watered down a lot for the kids.

"Please fasten your seatbelt and place your seatback in an upright position."

Alright so, how do we follow up such a sad and depressing episode as Code of Hero? Well simple really: BIRTH DEFECTION! What is up with these writers? XD

That cube contains half of Rampage's spark, imagine if you were still alive after having half your heart cut away and you can still feel the needles go in it. That's why Rampage feels PAIN. :D

By the way, did you hear what Optimus said in this episode in response to Rattrap, Silverbolt and Cheetor in danger?

Optimus: "I'm going after them, I'm not in the mood to lose anymore friends."

    The feels.

Wait, the Autobots? When did they show up? I know you mean Maximals, but still it's too obvious of a fault XD

Fun fact, Susan Blu, the voice actress for Arcee in G1 voices Transmutate here. She was also the voice director for this series as well as the voice director for Beast Machines, Transformers Animated and the first 10 episodes of Transformers Prime. She left that position due to the unfortunate passing of her wife, but she later got remarried, on the same day Garry Chalk (Optimus Primal) got married. :)

It is, a Maximal, but, born differently.

    :3

Yeah, he'd be a great Maximal... you know, if he wasn't murderous. Although technically due to his origins he is a Maximal, just, a horrible one.

    Now isn't that just Prime?

No no no he's going to put her in standby mode, stasis lock, a brief coma so they can have a chance to save her spark.

Well I don't think the writers were overly convinced on how much of an impact Dinobot's death was, so they decided to immediately drive the nail deeper in our hearts. XD

Tigatron would have shoved that message further down our throats. XD

She was a being who spiritually he connected with.

HA! Like Megs would stop the Beast Wars willingly.

Oh yes, we will see you on Monday.

Let the fates fall, where they may.

I've never liked this episode. I understand the message they were conveying, but it just did nothing for me. It didn't serve much of a purpose either except give Rampage some character development,
which didn't really matter anyway considering he was back to being a psychopath for the rest of the series.

They just killed off my favorite character, and I was angry and sad. Speaking of Code of Hero, it's my favorite Beast Wars episode. I've watched it so many times and it still gets me.

Transmutate is much like Tangled Web, except in TW, there are important plot points. Transmutate is all filler, and wouldn't hurt the show if it were erased from continuity.

So yeah, when this aired, I was basically like, "what the hell? This is stupid."

"Filler" isn't necesarily bad. Batman: The Animated Series is technically 99% filler. A good story doesn't need to have lasting ramifications, it just has to be a good story.

The episode is character development for Silverbolt and Rampage.

Here is what Transmutate would have looked like before she entered the stasis pod. From 2014. We don't know what beast she would have taken if she had been okay.

No it's not. The Low Road, one of my favorite episodes, is pure filler. The difference being it's well written comedy and is entertaining. Transmutate bored me, and just wasn't a good follow up to Code of Hero. It had a positive message to preserve life, but it just didn't connect with me, and again, you just killed my favorite character, and this is what you give me afterwards? It also doesn't help that I'm not that much of a fan of Silverdork.

But I'd still rank it above a couple episodes from Season 3.

Although my reaction was a little less than yours, for me this is also my least episode of season 2.

Doesn't mean I don't think it's a good episode (because I do think it is) and it doesn't mean that I don't like it (because I do), it just feels out of place in this season. Every episode in season 2 builds towards or is part of the grander story of this season. Except this one. It's a stand alone episode where I would've preferred another arc builder. Maybe we could've had another episode (pre Code of Hero) in which Dinobot's torment is a bit more expanded upon or perhaps an episode with Rattrap venting his anger about Dinobot's death, or something.

The whole Unicron is a God-like creature (formed by all the evil and chaos in a previous universe which he then destroyed), came from the Marvel comics.

But in the same Marvel comics the story goes that Unicron can be stopped by either the power of the matrix, or the combined might of all the Transformers. The Transformers were created by Primus to fight in his place (since he realised that if he also transformed into a giant robot then the devastation would be again to big). The War threw a big spanner in that plan.

If BW Megatron had succeeded to stop humanity and thus result in a Decepticon victory, then Unicron still could've been stopped, even without the Matrix. The Decepticons would then have conquered Earth and used it to re-energise Cybertron and turn Cybertron into a giant, heavily armed space fortress (Megatron's plan in the UK Marvel stories). They could've destroyed Unicron like that.

    Episode 36 - "Transmutate"

It's like a cell phone, it's always by your bed.

Maybe big metal clanking noises are the norm in the base?

    :lol

That was a hard fall....it they still had their organic outer shells, they'd go splat.

    :D

    :lol

    :lolol

You sound the rest of us back then.

    :lol

    Lego gun... :lol

    Awwwww....

    :(

    :(

    Well that's 2 back-to-back eps with a death of a character....shall we try for a third?

Capt! I just realized that I pretty much haven't been on these boards since you finished the G1 viewing. I'm glad you are still going on. I'm not following this board since I don't care about BW, but I hope you are enjoying yourself!

Thanks for giving me something to look forward to in that other thread. Be well,

    Episode 37 - "The Agenda, Part 1"
    Oh snap, Christmas came early.

    From the Season 1 finale.

    :lol

    :D

...speaking of witch, how's the fiancé?
    jk :p

    :D

    :(

    Dun dun duuuuun....

Well, he is thinking with his other....head.

I'm sure he knows....being a rat and all.

I know. I wonder how long it took those 2 to actually lug all that equipment, and begun setting it up...only to have it destroyed by a teammate before firing a shot.

Well, since the enemy may not know where you hid them, you don't want them to scan your base and know exactly where all of them are.

You talking about the "proximity and breathing through mouth" bit? It's referring to that Rattrap smells bad.

The ghost of Dinobot would cross his arms and say "Hell yeah."

Just to make you go "ahhhhhhh....cool."

    Nothing gets by you.

    Yep....G1 Ravage...he got an upgrade.

    :lol

    :D

That's why you use official names, instead of your nicknames :p

    Of course.

    :D

Maybe he because he hasn't done that before.

With big feet and legs like his? Oh yeah.

Cats don't always land on their feet.

    :bay

His BFGs would have worked if he had a few more rounds in the chamber.

    Awesome moment.

That was hilarious...that's why you don't turn on ALL your autoguns, they can still surprise you.

    :D

Also that wink she gave him.

    :D

Big epic music to end the episode.

Strap for yourself in for Part 2 and 3!!!

    :D

    It begins.

Same one that killed Primal. ;-)

You didn't catch the moment where Rattrap referred to Cybertron having a stripclub? XD

Rattrap: "Not only that but the serving bots are walking around minus their torso plates you get what I mean?"

Nah he's not a traitor he's just, naive to women.

On Cybertron the Maximals and Predacons are living together in uneasy peace, Megatron isn't the leader of the Preds, he's just a rogue who wants to reignite the war, and that would ruin the council's own plans for retaking Cybertron.

Can't let the Maximals find out about this, lest the Predacon's lose their political position.

HA! Ravage as a bounter hunter. Cute idea, but he's more of a co-worker. :3

Devcon, I remember him. He should have been in more episodes and at least gotten a proper toy.

Rattrap did (unintentionally) make a very sexual comment that made Sourball believe that he meant he knew about him and Blackarachnia.

Rattrap: "Oh yeah, scouting the enemy. Find any new positions?"

There's probably a few more sexual innuendos in this series. XD

    They're not exactly enemies

It's a Decepticon who upgraded to a Predacon.

    The very same Mr Kitty

He actually said: "Shut up Rattrap" :D

Yep, the very same Ravage, not a different character with the same name like Scorponok or Silverbolt, but the very same cassette tape cat of Soundwave. :D

Stop feeling sorry for him he's a psychotic bastard! XD

Yeah yeah we all know where this is going, he's going to die and come back to life to suffer painful agony again 24/7 as usual for Waspinator. :D

Ravage just drops them, he has no time for safety. :D

Dinobot would have loved to be part of this fight...

Never underestimate anything that has Ravage in it.

    Oh, they'll explain later. :)

Yeah, get the Maximals back home, what else is he here for? XD

Ah maybe he's forgotten about it, who knows.

Hahahahaha, oh my my my, I can't wait to see this tomorrow. Just a heads up, when season 3 happens that intro again spoils something but, you only need to close your eyes for one episode when the intro happens. We'll let you know when season 3 comes around. Oh Primus the stars are about to fall now.

    Have a good day. :)
