Still not sure what I think about this week's episode. I thought seeing it a second time would help, but it really didn't make things any clearer. Seems to be a case of execution failing to live up to concept.
That's almost exactly how I described it to a friend, it was a clever idea, but not very well executed.
This weeks episode blowed. The monsters looked as stupid as they were. And the story was, well not interesting at all. The only thing I liked was MR Sandman, butz that was already a good song before this episode. Fro those who ask weather or not this episode happened. It did happen (well in the context of the show). Basically the narrator put this together as a way of having his species survive and spread anyway, by utilizing the footage he took. It's not a made up story or a dream, but this guy taking advantage of something interesting and twisting it. The reason he survived everythign was because he already was a "Sandman" before the Doctor arrived. But yeah, you should have listened to him at the beginning and not watched it, it's just terrible.
Yeah, this episode was boring. Also I don't know if it's a coincidence, but today I started listening to BF Sixth Doctor audio titled "The Sandman" with aliens fearing the Doctor and call him the Sandman who was like a boogeyman to them. Wish I would see that instead of this episode. Also, the more the Doctor keeps wearing his hoodie and sparkly shirt, the more I like it. Forget the suit, this is my favorite 12th Doctor costume. The crazy hair makes it even better looking.
Decent enough episode. On a side note. I rather like new monsters. Helps take a break from the old familiar faces. So long as it is not Love and Monsters level bad.
Just finished "the end of time" ......I don't want to go I'm so glad Donna got a happy ending of sorts Not sure I'll like the eleventh as much as nine and ten
Only just found this out, the person who played 474 is the first transgendered actor to appear in Doctor Who. Shame it was in such a poor episode and such a boring character. I felt like the entire episode was written after Gattis binged on a bunch of computer games and just took the things he thought was cool and threw them together. It could also be that I myself drew similarities after playing Portal and Fallout recently (the AI singing, the Mr Sandman type music etc). But the FPS thing just bugged the hell out of me. I didn't care about anyone we met so everyone dying was just "meh whatever". Hopefully this will just be the dud of the series and we'll get back to the good stuff next week. The thing that annoys me is Gattis is a good writer, he just never seems to deliver on his Doctor Who episodes. I knew the second I heard it was his episode it was likely going to be a dud.
Have to agree. The only one I've really liked was Night Terrors, and that was mostly just because Matt Smith was at the top of his game in it.
I liked the Big finish one he wrote Invaders from Mars, but that one had the doctor meeting Orson Wells.
Awful episode. It felt like they had one basic decent concept and then decided to scrape the bottom of the barrel of bits of ideas to try and build an episode around it. I hate the found footage style so it was already onto a loser with me, plus I loathe the Who episodes where they're stuck in a base running around samey corridors with a load of boring nobody characters who are going to be picked off one-by-one by the monster of the week so who gives a shit when they inevitably die. I honestly expected the Doctor to wake up in the shower at the end and it had all been a dream. Still, like actual dreams this episode is easily forgettable. Plus I think I nodded off at one point during the show so that was kind of apt. Thank goodness they didn't try stretching this crap to a two-parter.
According to the episode's writer, this one IS getting a sequel but it will come later (probably next season). That is why the episode is so weird with no real beginning or ending. We just had another old episode finally get a sequel (the "no-more" painting and the recent zygon splinter faction). We were basically shown what the monster sand booger people were capable of and now know that anyone who watched that video the "scientist" made or anyone who used Morpheus is susceptible to, with time, becoming a sand person. The sand people cleverly devised a way to infect possibly millions. We've only seen their plan, their attack. The Doctor has discovered them, but never fully understood their grand plan or successfully stopped them...yet. They aim to infect/digest/convert anyone that gets exposed to Morpheus/the video so they can spread their species throughout the universe and conquer it. The "episode" cleverly took the series of events, twisted them to grab us for maximum curiosity till the very end, and successfully infected us just as the sand booger monsters intended. Like a Disney theme park ride that puts you into events of a famous movie, we, the audience, were basically put into the role of the victims who watched that video. I know this episode is getting A LOT of hate from viewers, but the idea and concept behind it is pretty interesting.
How is it? My copy is on the way and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also thinking about getting the War Doctor audios as well.
It's pretty funny, it's a decent story and Strax tends to steal many scenes but still be very useful. He works well with them. Pretty well written. Hope we get more team ups with them.
The last episode was bad, but I look forward to the next and over this season: You can talk to your opinion but stop to act as if you it has the majority opinion of the public, extreme most people find this the best season of the new series and Jenna one of the best actresses to play a companion of the new series
That isn't the "majority of the public" opinion either. I've found this series consistently good so far (the Zygon episodes being exceptionally good) but Sleep No More Really broke that streak. In Big Finish related news, listened to Doom Coalition over the last few days and found it so-so (first two parts were fantastic, third not great and the last one so-so). The 13 is a great villain though. Also picked up Return to Telos (which I found rather underwhelming) and Last of the Cybermen (which is fantastic). Can't wait for the War Doctor audios.
David Tennant Doctor Who return: official first look Sounds like fun. I hope to get that. I've finished listening to Series One of Jago and Litefoot and have enjoyed it. I've got to listen to the last two 4th Doctor stories though. Might as well get on with it alongside Phillip Hinchcliffe Presents and the last two Fourth Doctor Novel Adaptations. I really liked Last of The Cybermen with The Secret History and The Defectors. I need to relisten to Damaged Goods after having an amusing romp with The Highest Science.
Jago and Lightfoot start getting more interesting in future volumes, Leela Shows up for a few seasons, as do certain other characters. Spoiler Who even drop them off after an adventure in the wrong time period They are developing their own mythology and baddies, but some classic Doctor Baddies sometimes show up. Series 11 for instance will feature Spoiler The Master
