It's funny because a cow would be a Maximal and not a Predacon.

Tantrum was a bull, not a cow. :3 Also, that's not technically a picture of Tantrum.

Though the guy's point was that in Beast Wars, mammals were rarely Preds.

Beast Wars Preds, not G1. :p  Though if we're really being sticklers, that's just a third party knockoff.

Were they ever mammals though, in the context of the show? IIRC Beast Wars drew a pretty distinct line on that, until sea creatures came into the picture. And even then it seemed like anything with a shell was a Predacon.

    Tantrum's a water buffalo, not a bull.

    I know, that's what I said.

There were no mammal Predacons aside from the times when Rhinox and Rattrap were Preds. Oh, and Silverbolt's brief stint.

    Even less of a cow!

If memory serves the only Predacons that were mammals were Ravage/Shadow Panther, Wolfang (telemocha version), and Silverbolt for one and a half episodes.

But yeah Maximals were always mammals, birds, and various fish/cephalopods while Predacons were dinosaurs, insects, reptiles and crustaceans.

Yeah, Boldfang and Shadow Panther are it, sadly enough. Silverbolt, though he was never actually a Predacon, he just had his activation command hacked by Megatron. And Razorbeast in the comics, but he was a double agent.

Longhorn was a... longhorn. Man, those BM toys can be quite bad, can't they?

    Unbearably bad in fact.

I remember getting a grand total of three BM toys when I was a kid. Rapticon, Magmatron, and this...thing:

My young mind just saw the name Quickstrike and thought "Oh hey it's that cobra/scorpion guy from Beast Wars in a new body, that sounds cool."

    It was not cool.

Arguably Ravage shouldn't count since his beast mode was never the result of DNA scanning, Predacon programming-influenced or otherwise.

That BM(?) Quickstrike looks like the poster beast for hip dysplasia.

    You haters! ;)

Quickstrike, Night Viper, Blackarachnia, Battle Unicorn...there were plenty of awesome molds/concepts in Beast Wars.

I'd love to get X-9 Ravage but man he goes for a lot if I had the extra cash I'd pay $150 for him plus shipping or whatever max.

I like Longhorn. He has problems, but he's not horrible.

Let's not bring the mood down by talking about how awful Beast Machines toys were (and they were). Let's talk about how great Beast Wars toys are! Toys like Depth Charge!

Absolutely. Night Viper is still one of my favorite Transformers, period.

Nightviper absolutely rocks! I always had her and Silverbolt be a thing in post-BM and restart the Predacons. She never seemed like a Maximal to me. I also absolutely loved Skydive! Such a great figure.

I just realized, BM is essentially the same dynamic as BWII. Just... different.

I really like the aesthetic of the early maximal BM toys, when they worked, which was half the time.

Even the super non show accurate show cast ones like Cheetor. I love the look of that beast mode. And it has certainly been helped by the fact that figure stands are rather common nowadays.
