Its been a long and slow process, and with some almost tears thinking I had maybe destroyed one of my favorite figures. But I finally finished rebuilding my CW Ultra Magnus. Watching others on the forum, I thought i'd give it a go, except I decided to literally take it one step further or 2(pun intended) with giving his feet a sideways tilt. Sorry no photos of how it was done. List of augmentations.. I have removed all the pins and ratchets for the main joints and replaced them with screws and inserts/nuts so they are now friction joints. Only joints I didn't do were the shoulders because i am happy with the way they are. Head now on a ball joint. Articulated wrists. All the hollow sections of his gun have been filled in and then painted. And the part I dreaded doing the most was articulating the feet so they could tilt side to side. This part almost made me cry because i thought I had destroyed him and once I started there was no going back.(lego is my friend) Roadbuster has had some work as well, completely new shoulders....their now on a ball joint. Love the ankle tilts. Yeah. That's exactly how I feel whenever I try something no one has done before but that also pushes me to really go for it. Well, after cutting there's really no going back.
You can explain how you did the ankle tilts though. Yeah? Could apply that info to other figures if possible
There's a screw (or some shiny piece) on the gray foreign (lego piece) part and another screw on the stock white part. (Could be the original pin ?) The blue stock foot piece is gone from what I can tell and the lego looks to go beyond the dorsum pedis. Articulation maybe located on the under side of the foot. Yeah. I can relate to this as well. When I'm working on something I tend to forget (all the time) to take photos or steps. I always end up taking it apart take photos then putting it back all over again.
Since people have asked how I did the foot tilt, I will do my best to share with you how I did it, Im not the best with my wording and description, must be something to do with my Aspergers. Cant help it but Im glad to be off assistance, But I wont be held responsible if you wreck your Ultra Magnus. First you will need to get the pin out holding the foot to the white ankle section...I did this by heating it up with a soldering iron. it takes a bit but it do's work. These are the parts I used. Preparing the parts. Test fitting and how they go together. How to cut the foot section out. The section circled in red will needed to be filled smaller so Part C can fit over it snuggly. And now is a good time to fit Part c because its easier to fit now rather than later.You can fit all the other parts from underneath the foot. Before you attach the foot you will need to trim a section out of the side so the foot can actually tilt. Ignore the fact the foot is already attached in the photo. This is how it go's together, hoe you choose to hold it in place is up to you, I used supaglue and put a filler over the top, which I was able to pop it off so I could give you a better look at what it looks like underneath. Just a note,where Part A sits on the foot you will need to grind it flat and take a little bit of the bulk of so it sits better. I do agree...its only a acrylic wash and I was kind of going for more of the weathered/battle grim look...its kind of a preference for me
I like this tutorial a lot. On a side note... People could use this part instead of the grey part C you mentioned. No drilling or sanding required, you just have to clip the top off. I don't mean to steal your thunder, I just want to help. Awesome work by the way, the paint job looks great.
Steal away..any help is greatly appreciated, I didn't even know this part existed until now but it would do a way better job...I only used what I had in my small arsenal of lego...
