Yeah, I'm trying to keep my expectations in check too, but the thought of this has me much more excited than the thought of another Core dude.

Here are a few comparison shots of both heads. On the left is the new face plated head, and on the right is the original head that comes with Smart Robin.

Some things of note:
The new head seems to have a darker shade of metallic grey and a slightly lighter shade of orange when compared to the original head. Also, the new face plated head has lime green eyes instead of the originals blue; this change is also present on the Nebulon partner's face. Furthermore, the waist joint on the new head is a tad loose on my copy. All the other joints are of the same tightness as the original.

My final thoughts:
I'm glad Fansproject decided to produce a face plated version of Smart Robin's partner. It really completes the figure if, like me, you were disappointed with the originals "human face". I feel for those folks that could not get this addition due to it being part of a subscription service, but for how long I wonder?

 

Fansproject, I'd love to pay you a reasonable amount of money for this masked head for the Smart Robin figure I previously bought from you. Please don't make it some sort of gimmick where I need to make further commitments. I have enough commitments in my life, thank you.

 

If they rerelease the figure with both heads, I would probably pick it up. Up until now, I've been happy with the Generations figure. But if Hasbro isn't going to do a Deluxe redux of the character, I want a Brainstorm that scales with my Code and the Headmasters Hasbro has announced.

 

I'd buy this head if I could get it from my regular site.

This. Or heck---it looks like only one piece was changed. Just sell the new face-plate so we can swap it in. We don't need a new-yet-identical forehead, arms, legs, etc.

Does look really nice, how does it compare with the repro labels set. That includes a cover and was kind of necessary for other details and faction logos.

 

Yeah, when I first saw this on Facebook I was hoping it was one tiny pice to fit the original head.

 

You can see photos of the reprolabels set a couple pages back. The set looks great...EXCEPT for the faceplate, which doesn't cover the nose like it should, and looks awkward.

 

Now with a comparison, the new head does look better but the reprolabels set is still more readily available.

 

Something I should clarify is that unlike the previous core units that came on blister cards, this release only came sealed in plastic. This suggests to me that the face plated head may come with a future re-release of Smart Robin. Whether this re-release will be in the original color scheme or an altered scheme like we've seen with Code is unknown.

 

I'd get the reprolabels set anyway for the other stickers. But I would definitely hold off on applying the faceplate sticker in case the real faceplate becomes available. I'd choose a mouth face over that awkward and unsatisfying faceplate sticker, anyway. If it's not going to look right, there's no point to it, imo. I see what they were going for with it, but it didn't work.

 

Thank you! Ran outside to check my mailbox since I'm also in Washington but nothing yet. Once I get this, I'll likely immediately sell my Hasbro version, only reason I kept it was so that I had a version of Brainstorm with the faceplate... he's inferior to Smart Robin in all other aspects imo.

Really hate the fact they don't send any sort of tracking information with these.

 

I would buy that. I wasn't interested in Code, but a face plate version that might say match the US cartoon would be neat.

 

I'm not willing to rebuy the whole figure. I would buy another headmaster, but I am drawing the line there. I wish a 4P had already made a simple faceplate to slip on there. I don't like the sticker either. I have grown to like the face anyways, so i can live with it without a faceplate, but initially I wanted the faceplate and it would be cool.

Now I really AM glad that I got the Steelcore trailer. The new head looks fantastic, too.
