The funny thing is, both Tripredacus and Magnaboss had combining weapons like that originally. But Magnaboss was the one with the giant sword.

We'll have to see what happens with Sea Clamp. It's possible they've got something in mind to callback to Tripredacus's wing sword launching thing.

 

How would using Spellcheck on the word "Cicadacon" have yielded a different result? (It sure as heck has the dotted red line on my browser!)

 

So I guess that means Sea Clamp is going to be a Voyager with a new head and a new combiner head. Not sure how I feel about this actually, having one general be a voyager toy and the others being deluxes.

Makes me think having the three Tripredacus generals being deluxes and using Sky Lynx as Magmatron for the torso may have been the better option scale wise.

 

It's an easy name to mess up.

There's no reason Sea Clamp being the largest needs to mean anything. Look at the originals. Sea Clamp was the largest beast mode, and Ironhide made up the majority of Magnaboss.

Look at other instances in fiction where "the Big Guy" didn't mean the guy in charge. The Council could very well be three equals, but it makes more sense for one of them to form the core of the combiner than a lackey. As from a toy perspective AND a Universe perspective, you need all three of them together to really "be" (Tri)Predacus.

If they're counting on somebody else to be the torso at any given moment that's not going to work. With one of them as the torso, they can be like Galvatronus and force any two other bots to be the legs.

Now, if they had gone with Tripredacus Agents as we thought when it was only Tarantulas and Ravage, then Magmatron would make sense as a torso since of the five he's typically portrayed as more powerful/bigger.

 

Well, they could have a Magnaboss three-pack in the souvenir sets with the sword, I suppose. But it wouldn't be a cool red and black sword  

As another option, I'd point to the Sub set this year regarding the combined mode weapon - they are just using Supreme*-class weapons there. Any of the SDCC Combiner Hunters weapons might make sense in a Botcon CW set. I'm not enough of a BW fan to say what would work best, though.

Oh I agree that the size of the toy doesn't need to mean anything as far as character goes. What I meant was more along the lines that in their show appearance the three generals were all roughly the same height as one another, having one be a voyager toy somewhat ruins that sense of scale.

And I get that they're likely doing it this way because Sea Clamp was the largest of the toys that formed Tripredacus but it's still going to be a tad distracting to have one of the three generals tower over the other two because of the show designs.

 

I hope this toy ends the barrage of people saying the original toys are not referenced at all.

 

Maybe FunPub are just messing with us with these digi-bashed pics. In reality, these toys will be coloured like the originals.

Seaclamp will be a voyager. They're not going to make a box set of Combiner Wars toys and not give you a combiner.

Well of course they're going to give us a full combiner, all I said was that Sky Lynx as Magmatron might have been a better voyager option if it meant all three generals being the same size class.

Not all generals are the same size. There are plenty of jokes about fat generals and short generals.

 

Well I stand corrected on the head sculpt. It does look a lot like Cicidacon(or however you spell it) so kudos to them for that.

I just don't see myself paying $50-80 for a DELUXE mold. Power to you guys who can afford it, but just seems like highway robbery to me.  

Also, I wonder how hard this would be: SEGMENT THE WINGS WITH HINGES, so you can pop them up like a bug in robo mode. Or maybe remold the jet nose into a bug head!   I guess too expensive for FunPub to do, but I think retools like that would push me into the buy camp!
