In honor of today being the future date in Back to the Future 2, what is your favorite Back to the Future movie. For me, I have to give the slight edge to the original since it has the most iconic moments, and it is the most self-contained of the trilogy. It has a lot of great comedy, characters, and interesting time travel elements. Back to the Future 2 is my second favorite just because I like the future scenes, and it makes for a good darker middle chapter. Plus, it has one of the best cliffhanger endings of all time. The third one is my least favorite by a small margin, but I still love it too. I'm not a huge fan of traditional westerns, but they also manage to make some good jokes about that, and it has a lot of clever moments. It also ends the trilogy on a perfect note. It's probably my third favorite trilogy after the original Star Wars trilogy and Lord of the Rings.
While I do love watching the whole trilogy all at once. The 2nd film has to be my favorite. The most amount of time travel is the main reason. They go to the future, alternate present, and back to the past at the same time as previous versions of themselves. It pretty much covers all the time travel bases.
Well, Part I still tops them all, but of the sequels...for the longest time I'd have given it to Part II, but of late I've been leaning more toward Part III.
I've only seen the first 2. The first film was very good. The second film was just all over the place. The plot point of going to the future wasn't a very good one. Heck, most of the stuff in the second film served no purpose at all.
The first one also had Crispen Glover in a proper supporting role that would have made the other two a lot better had he not asked for too much $ to appear in the sequels. George McFly is one of the most overlooked characters in the series and was a great foil for Marty.
I'm going with the first one because it just feels better than the other two. My main problem with II and III is that they used MJF for all of the relatives roles and not whoever they used as George McFly. They should have just cast different actors. In III, they had MJF and Lea Thompson as Seamus and Maggie McFly. Unless there was a lot of inbreeding in the McFly family, they shouldn't have looked like Marty and Lorraine.
I love the whole set. I would lean to Part 2, just because it had 1955, alternate universe, and 2015. Part 1 was great and had a wonderful story. I'm not a fan of Westerns, but Part 3 did a great job.
In terms of quality, first one. But because I love steam locomotives, I have to go with Part III. It's amazing that the DeLorean is practically a character in its own right, and they kinda did the same with the Central Pacific #131. I mean, yeah, technically, it's a plot device, but because it's the Sierra #3, the "movie star" locomotive, she just has that charisma about her. And I just love that those aren't stock sound effects - that's what she really sounds like. It's honestly a shame that there aren't any models of her. Well, there are, sort of - TYCO made models back in the day, but none of how she looks in real life (I have the AT&SF deco), and a rare Petticoat Junction set is the only one they made based on a film appearance. Probably just too expensive for licensing, I guess. And speaking of which, I don't give a shit what anyone says, I seriously want a model - kit, running, or both - of Doc's "Jules Verne" locomotive. It's probably the most bullshit thing in the entire series, but goddamn, if it doesn't look awesome.
I honestly only like the first film. I know, I'm awful, but I found the third dreadful in almost every aspect and the second just never clicked with me.
Frankly, ANY merchandised representation of the Jules Verne Train would be awesome. I think the Lego CUUSOO people tried to get one voted into production a year or so ago, but I can't remember who they lost out to.
More or less exactly my thoughts. Loved the first one, really liked the third, but don't have anything good to say about the second. In fact, I loathe the second one.
BTTF 2 doesn't get enough love, given it has some of the smartest on-screen time-travel sequences I can think of.
