That's where the cannon goes so yeah it looks like you have to remove the head.

But hopefully there's a way to just keep it attached to the helmet when it flips back into the abdomen. Never been a fan of the Headmaster concept - I don't hate it, but it just seems like an imposed handicap (for lack of a better term). I mean, I can see some 'coolness' in swapping faces and whatnot, but there should still be a way to keep it at minimum a fully functional transformer. Plus, if you lose the little head guy, you're basically F'd. So hopefully the headguy can stick to the helmet and be stored in the abdomen.

The chest cavity does look fairly spacious.

I don't mind the head gimmick myself. Think it works fine enough.

There's a giant bloody cockpit hanging off Galvatron's back.

Pretty sure it's obvious where the little Megatron cosplayer is supposed to be stored.

True, but if it can't stick in the helmet then it's basically a parts former. And that still doesn't change the fact that if the headmaster gets lost, you're f'd.

I've always felt that gimmicks should be over an above, not in place of features that are otherwise status quo, and having a head at all times should be status quo. Kind of like Minimus Ambus on CW Magnus - if you don't like the IDW concept of Magnus, fine, it's still a fully functioning robot/vehicle without Ambus (barring a small gap at the neck). But Galvatron without the headmaster is a headless robot.

No, I get that we will be able to buy replacements...for as long as the line runs. But if the head is lost after 2016, it won't be quite so easy. There may ways around it, but ultimately I'm just not a fan of the idea of removing a vital body part to transform. It just seems like more a handicap for the robot than anything. Now, if the head can remain securely attached to the helmet with transforming, then it's a non-issue (for Galvatron at least), but I'm not sure it'll be that way with the others.

The word you're looking for is "Headmaster". And complaining about Headmasters having detachable heads has got to be close to peak forum whining.

Yes, Headmaster is a version of parts-former. A key body part, not weapon or accessory, is removed and then either put back in another place or kept separate in the other mode. I recognize that Headmasters have been around for a long time, but it still doesn't change the fact that the toy is basically a parts-former (provided the head can't remain in the helmet full time).

...How does having a helmet even matter? The helmet is built into the figure. It's no different than any other part that may or may not detach during play.

What are you even whining about at this point? That Headmasters are bad because you may lose the head? How is that different than a gun. Or a CW fist/foot. Or a small piece of kibble that may pop off?

If you're that worried. Leave it in robot mode.

OK, it's like this. Accessories get lost, not always but it's a definite possibility. Guns, missiles, swords, minicons, etc. But the core transformer is large enough to find and while missing an accessory can be disappointing, at least the transformer is whole. Unless it's not, as in the case of headmasters. I'm not a fan of the concept fictionally because it seems it's a handicap, and as a collector because unlike with a lost gun, the toy would be headless if it's missing. In this case I commented that if the head can remain snugly in the helmet then the negatives are offset, and asked if it seemed like it would fit snugly.

It was pointed out that there are places to put the headmaster in either mode even if it can't fit in the chest, which is fine and dandy, but doesn't remove the chance of losing it and leaving the guy headless.

And with combiners, yeah, you lose a hand or foot and the combiner is impacted heavily, but you still have the core transformer in good shape.

And I like Transformers because they're transformers. As much as I'm not a fan of the headmaster concept, it's a 1000X better than the action master concept.

And besides, don't Headmasters have cockpits for the head unit? I've always thought of that as a callback to Diaclone pilots anyway...

Yup. The only time you're likely to "lose" a Headmaster is if it flies away from you during Transformation. Otherwise it'll either be in the cockpit or stuck in the neck hole.

Actually, in the comics, Headmasters - or rather the whole spectrum of *-masters - being kind of a handicap was the point as the Nebulons didn't trust the Autobots to handle defending their planet without direct supervision or something (whereas for the Decepticon allied nebulons, probably the whole HM process was sugarcoated with the idea it would give more personal power to them or something, I don't recall exactly).
Galvatron doesn't have a helmet, though. He's got basically the frilly edges of what his helmet had - the HM itself is the majority of the purple seen on the head.

Such things have been inherent in the Transformers line for ages when it involves small robots becoming part of larger robots. For instance, if you lose Armada Jetfire's rover mini-con, you lose his alt. mode's front landing gear.

Losing the heads, though, is not the worst thing Master type gimmicks can do. You're screwed if you lose the powermasters for G1 Doubledealer, since he can't even transform into either the robot or the bird without first putting in one of the powermasters. And while it's not a powermaster, Cybertron Primus can not be transformed if you lose the Omega Lock accessory needed to rotate parts of him in place (I'm sure something could be improvised, but it's far more awkward than just making sure the Omega Lock isn't lost in the first place)

Actually, there are transforming Action Masters, too - Omega Spreem being the most famous of all Action Masters partly for this reason (the other being something that needs no explaining)

I just seen this guy and I want him... I have a couple of minor issues with it but it's easy over looked as he still looks amazing. The issues are NOTHING compared to the original Universe Galvatron mold. That thing looked nothing like G1 Galvatron. I could have accepted him as a different incarnation of the character except I also thought it was stupid that they stuck a bright orange cannon on what was otherwise an Earth style tank. They needed to either sacrifice the cannon or give him a more futurist alt mode to make that cannon blend in better. Putting Galvatron's cannon on an Earth vehicle just looks dumb.

This Galvatron actually looks like the character he's meant to represent. He still has some inaccurate things about him like the inclusion of a third mode which was never seen in the Cartoon. This is forgivable though because the original toy also had a third mode that was never seen in the cartoon. He went from a space gun to a space ship which is actually an improvement. It kinda makes me think that G1 Galvatron and Energon Galvatron merged into the same character because that jet mode is very similar to the Energon Megatron/Galvatron alt mode. Anyway, it's a mode I will probably never have him in. It's also forgivable because it doesn't appear to hinder his other two modes any.

The other complaint is that he's a Headmaster... And this is only really a problem because G1 Galvatron was never a Headmaster. This is forgivable though because just from looking at him I can't really tell that his head is meant to transform into anything. It still looks like Galvatron so that's good. I also think it's kind of funny idea to have the Headmaster robot look like G1 Megatron. I also hate Headmasters because if I loose that figure I'm stuck with a headless Galvatron. But he's probably going to be in robot mode most of the time so that little guy isn't going anywhere.

Minor complaints aside, gawd this figure looks amazing. Have I said that yet? We finally get an updated G1 Galvatron that actually transforms into a cannon and that we don't have to pay insane 3rd party prices for. I haven't been this excited for a new Transformers toy for a long time. I seriously can't remember the last time I wanted a Transformer as much as I want this one. There's been a few I've wanted but not really that I've actually been excited for the release of. This is like the excitement I use to get as a kid when I first started collecting Transformers. That's how much I love this thing. I think it's because I've been wanting them to do something like this for so long that I've basically been anticipating this YEARS before they even made this announcement while others I just sort of look at and go yeah I like that, I'll buy it. This one is one I've been waiting for.

I wish they didn't make him a headmaster or tack on an unnecessary third mode but I don't care, he's still awesome.

Yeah I saw that but that head design doesn't look like Galvatron. It might match in colors but not in design. It's a pretty poor replacement should someone loose the original head.

I'd be more concerned if I still actually played with my toys. But considering they spend most of their time sitting on a shelf and looking awesome I'm fairly confident that I won't need to replace his head. It's just something I felt I needed to point out because this is a toy line meant for kids not adult collectors.

All good points but kids will lose the head at some point and they are not nearly as picky as we tend to be.
