I hate flu shot season. I work in an office, and during this time of year, half the people get flu shots, and then they get everyone else sick.

I have a pretty formidable immune system and I've haven't gotten the flu since I was in High School. *knock on wood* I take Vitamin C supplements just so that I don't get sick. If I ever do, it's only for a day or two and my body fights it off.

Yeah, Autism is something you're born with, doesn't magically appear.

A more legitimate concern against forced vaccination is the fact that a good number of doctors admit they force the vaccinations at a younger age that would be good for some children, because the state wants them all vaccinated before they go to school. Some kids mature faster than others, so while it might be a good idea to get a vaccination whenever the kids has grown to the right size, they force all kids to get the vaccination at the age before they go to school. So while I agree it's a good idea to get vaccinations, I don't believe in forcing it on other.

Plus "herd immunity" be damned, we are Americans, not herds. We have rights to not be injected with diseases if we choose. I believe given proper evidence, most people will choose the vaccination, there is no need to buy a gun to the couple people who disagree's heads and force them to comply.

Yes, we are a herd even if you're 'murican. To think otherwise is just arrogant stupidity. Your right to refuse is trumped by everyone who can't get vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons right to not get horribly sick and die. Herd immunity is incredibly important to the good of population in general. Frankly opting out because "woo, 'murica!" just makes you a ginormously selfish asshole. Oh and you're not being injected with the disease itself, saying that just makes you sound ignorant.

Americans? Rights? Ok. Well how about the right to live? How about the right to not be afflicted by stupid, ignorant, no skinned having, and overly paranoid people? Oh wait that doesn't exist because of people's right to be a selfish dick to others. I'm getting so fucking sick n tired of the "rights" card people love pulling at a whim.

Not an unreasonable stance, but the problem is that the risk of these kids being exposed to the diseases vaccines protect them from skyrockets once they get into school. Hell, even the rise of daycare due to the increased need for two-parent incomes poses further risks to unvaccinated children. Those places are basically breeding grounds for communicable diseases already. It gets to a point where the risk of vaccinating someone before they're "at weight" is lower than the risk of them not being vaccinated.

I'm assuming you mean "put a gun" and not buy (thought there's probably some interesting political and policy parallels between the two subjects there), but the point is, people don't get to drive drunk if they choose, because it puts other people's safety at risk. Their right to safety trumps another's right to exercise their freedom to pursue unsafe acts. That's the sort of jurisprudence that's behind these sorts of rules.

The proper evidence is already out there, and we're in a situation where people are literally dying because people AREN'T choosing to vaccinate. That's the problem here.

Not really. Kids are developing and growing like crazy while they happen to be getting their main vaccinations. So it's no surprise that while they're going through major developmental stages that the symptoms of autism begin to show while they happen to be on a routine vaccination schedule.

I dunno, anti-vaxxers always go on about mental health issues caused by vaccines, but anti-vaxxers always tend to be obsessive lunatics anyway if the anti-vaxxers present in this thread are any indication. You might as well take your shots since you already can't get any worse.

Now if you had your vaccines then you shouldn't have to worry about the next guy.

Now don't get me wrong- by nature and philosophy I am a skeptic. Shit happens in life. While I have no doubt that people have had side effects to vaccines, I don't think there would be enough of them to warrant abstinence from shots. For all I know my friend's kid is coincidental. Or she was that 1 in 100 million. I dunno- I'm no more a chemist or scientist than anyone else here. All I can do is read the same websites and proclaim myself an expert on the subject. Or not. But if politics and The Supreme Court have taught me anything it's that people (women) have rights over their bodies.

So, as far as I am concerned if you are worried that the next guy is contagious, then inoculate yourself and call it done.

    Ok.
There's only a ton of research put into saying that it most likely causes or has a good chance of causing autism. The 2nd part that's just my own theory. I'm into reading about conspiracy theories. But hey that's just my opinion. What's the point in trying to start a argument.

No it doesn't. There hasn't been any proven link to vaccines causing autism. If you want to say some ignorant shit like that, back it up with facts instead of circumstantial evidence (that for the most part, really isn't any evidence at all). Better yet, why not stop and think about what band wagon you're gonna jump on before you jump on it to make sure you're not really just jumping on it to sound/look cool....because dude...it's not working.

And for the rest of the population that want to, but can't due to medical issues or their age? Should they be left at risk because some people want to enact some so called "right" at the expense of others? Really now......

The whole Autism thing was bullshit. The guy who published the article was a fraud. How come people can believe a guy who was revealed to be a fraud? Oh yeah, The Government is trying to kill us all! Of course they would fire a guy who made them look bad!".
I can't believe how people can look at modern science and disregard it as, "harmful". We nearly fucking killed Polio with the vaccine. If you choose to be ignorant, that's your decision, but to put others at risk?
    Grow up people.

I don't need to look cool to people online. Anyone who does do that must have such a low confidence in themselves.
    That's just my belief.

What are you trying to say?

Seems to me that if someone wants to be vaccinated but can't due to medical condition or age then you kinda have to be left at risk.

    Especially the medical condition guy.

Think about it: if he can't for medical reasons, and you decide he needs a shot to make you feel better then you might bring more harm to him than good.

    Effing a dude.

And the kid who wants a shot but is declined due to age? Seriously? How many kids get shots they don't want?

    WTH dude...
