I don't think there is enough of a market for Hasbro MP. Just stick to Takara.

 

 

Transforming robots is a "kiddie gimmick" right from step one. If you didn't love "kiddie gimmicks", you wouldn't even be here. So save that kind of talk.

Yeah, I think that is what it boils down to. For Optimus and a select few others, TRU may take a chance. But for most others, I don't think there is enough interest to justify retailers ordering. And without retailer interest, there's nothing to justify Hasbro doing them.

 

Galvatron has the G1 cannon, the right colours and a cool body. I don't understand what's missing. Voyager isn't that small, certainly not enough to discourage buying it. He just reeks of too much awesome to skip. It's nice that they're taking risks with things like Cybertronian cannons, crocodiles and boomboxes. Speaking of which, Blaster's somewhat useless base mode (though I kind of like it) is completely made up for by the most kickass boombox mode. This may be the one toy I put in alt mode for display.

 

This last round of MPs goes against most of what you listed.

MP Blue Streak and MP Starscream were both $60. Blue Streak isn't quite $40, but still not bad. MP Starscream is a fantastic deal that is $20 cheaper than the previous Seeker MPs. Starscream won't shelfwarm and is essentially sold out already, Bluestreak might in the long run.

 

Wouldn't Sky Reign's limbs make more sense with Optimus Prime? There's Wheeljack, Hound, Smokescreen and Trailbreaker. They were all gone before Sky Lynx's appearance in season 3.

 

Prowl was at $70, going higher in a few places. Bluestreak at $60, while much better, is still way too high. The car bots that make it to TRU really shouldn't be more than $40, IMHO.

Starscream at $60, however, was a great price. I was surprised to see him stick there, as most of the time they jump within the first week to the price point TRU prefers. It's a tougher market, the MP side. But I tend to think fairer pricing could win the day more often.

I'm hoping there are some lessons being learned by BS, and maybe we'll see another more reasonable price adjustment the next time they drop another car MP. Unfortunately, the pessimist in my feels the lesson will be "these don't sell, we're not doing another."

(and yeah, coupons/discounts bringing 'Streak to some $48 for quite a few--I don't believe we should have to resort to coupons to get this guy semi-close to the price point he should just "be" in the first place. But that's just me...)

As for the announced batch, I'm not as interested in Blaster as I would have liked, but being one of the few TFs from my childhood I still own is my original Blaster, I'll be getting one to put next to him. Galvatron....eh, not sure on yet. Hardhead is out for me, but I have interest in Mindwipe. The rest is a "see in person" kind of thing for me right now.

 

I didn't read the whole thread. Does anyone know if the headmasters will be compatible with G1 figures? It would be awesome if they are.

Exactly. Toys that transform into other toys. It's why Transformers is still around now. (that, and they didn't turn into rocks)

 

Bricks, however...

 

That is where you are dead wrong. Hasbro has specifically targetted this line for 8-13 year olds (RID is 5-8 and rescue bots is for before that). They have said so countless times. While we collectors buy these toys, we are not a big part of the market. They may cater to us with exclusives and botcon but the reality is that they make these wide market toys mainly thiking of kids. Saying these toys are CLEARLY marketted for ADULT COLLECTORS is factually wrong. Want proof?

You have to give Hasbro a bit more credit than that. This is actually part of a trilogy of toys and other media and it was thought up at the latest in 2013 (probably longer than that). So its not as random as you think, there was a lot of thought put into these lines and the greater brand. Hasbro is probably better organized than the US government (shuldnt be too hard to believe, at least they have powerful shareholders).

I totally agree with this. From what I hear, it worked out ok for Quicklinger and Brakeneck.

What sucks is that both companies are targetting the exact same people with a very similar product. Unlike combienr wars, and previous mainline releases, the products come at around the same time and are focused for retail disribution. But these more collector grade items are sold readily and at affordable prices at import shops that cater to westerners, and unlike mainline releases, MPs are issued in japan first (by at least a year). So collectors who have access (most of us) would get the Takara version. And with that in hand, a Hasbro version might be redundant. Then again I say that and everyoe is losing their minds over the starscream release, so who knows.

Be careful what you wish for. I much preffer spending 60$ on a seeker than 150-200$. Our Optimus release was also much cheaper and so was our soundwave (who came with all the casettes).

They are not compatible since, like brainstorm, it is their head that acts as a ball joint connecting to the body.
