I agree any attempt to force people to respect someone is going to ruffle feathers. In sports you can throw out stats to say why someone is good at the position they play and things can be rather peaceful but the moment you start saying you have to respect a certain quarterback, pitcher, point guard, or other player people get angry.

 

There are so many talented working actors, directors, and writers that will never get the attention they deserve, and I'm supposed to care that a wealthy blockbuster director doesn't get respect? What's wrong with this picture, lol.

 

Well, no one's saying that others aren't worthy of respect themselves anymore than anyone here is suggesting he deserves your respect on a personal, one-on-one basis. (Although, I DO think the video would have been wise to detail some of Bay's great generosities in the field of charity, which is certainly worth some respect for him as a person as well.)

As with those unknown artists who never get the attention they deserve, the point here is CREDIT WHERE CREDIT'S DUE.

And the point of the video is establishing that, whether you're a fan of his work or not, Michael Bay is at the least worthy of your respect.

Considering the way his detractors bristle at and haggle over the very use of the word "respect" itself I'm not so sure that's the case.

Well, come on, guys...that's just being silly and petulant, lol.

And for the record, the video file may be labeled that way on YouTube but the narrator never says that within the video itself. What he actually says is "six reasons you should respect Michael Bay."

Or, y'know. Exactly what you suggested.

 

 

It's true, I did note that when watching.  

 

I do feel a lot of the animators and people who work on the staff and the VA's for the Transformers are under-appreciated and I feel they get lumped in way the negatives.

 

One of my favorite director's.

Mostly for his directing style instead of what he has influenced and who he made a star. But the video makes some points I guess.

Another video you can find "What is Bayhem?" sums up his strengths better.

 

^ Yeah, I've seen that one as well and it's a decent rundown of some of what he's got going for him. Although, I still think it's pretty unnecessarily negative overall and lacks a full appreciation of his value as a filmmaker.

I can respect him for many of the points in the video.

He's consistent with his style and he entertains.

People are just fatigued from the Transformers movies.

 

bay's films are great when they are R rated. it fits his humor better.

his films are terrible when pg 13.

 

How many R rated movies has Bay done I can only name four Bad boys 1 and 2, The Rock and Pain and gain I liked all of them however I also liked Armageddon which was my first Michael Bay film. I also enjoyed the Island. So I don't agree with that mainly because I don't think any one thing should be limited to a specific thing. Just because Transformers was a kids toy franchise once doesn't mean it can't have more adult or even vulgar humor now. Just because it's normally fairly light doesn't mean it can't be dark.

I feel this view can extend to movies which I felt the bayhem video missed but he doesn't like Bay so the whole video while examining his style is going to portray it negatively. The video said it wasn't unique yet no movie gives me the feeling of a Michael Bay movie just like no movie feels like a Nolan movie.

I feel that at times people forget that film is meant to have numerous outlooks and possibilities it's common for people to see a movie and go that was great other movies should be like that this is the reason Christopher Nolan is recommended to direct pretty much everything because people loved the Dark Knight trilogy, the prestiege and inception. The Dark Knight trilogy was great and it was unique but if every movie was like it well then it wouldn't be unique anymore.

No director should mimic another director this is why all the Dark Knight wannabes and the Michael Bay intimidations usually don't work because a director must have his own vision. It's why we have different franchises like Marvel, The Dark Knight trilogy, Transformers, Bourne, Terminator, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games and Harry Potter. Now I ask you how much do those franchises have in common there are similarities but most of them are full on different genres and this is great what are the odds you don't at least like one of those but also even if you do love Terminator or Matrix or Dark Knight are you always going to be in the mood for it sometimes we just want to kick back and have fun that's why directors like Michael Bay exist to have fun to deliver escapism. Directors like Nolan and Cameron exist to make us think to ponder things and consider things we normally wouldn't. I would never want every franchise to be like Transformers even if it is my favorite but if every franchise was like Dark Knight or Hunger Games would we even enjoy them as much.

I'm just saying the video seemed too biased only seeing his style as bad because it went it against what that viewer considered more traditional but there is no right filming style if there was and every director was meant to mimic them what would be the point in film making at all the whole point of it is because we have numerous different visions that all film differently. It's unique there are endless possibilities and endless different directing styles to limit it to just one would defeat the whole purpose of making movies in the first place.

 

That was a very informative video. I cannot deny that Michae--- gaaaahhh I don't even like typing his name, has some serious chops- balls? To make a household name of him.

However, while I can fully admit to having a new respect for the immense undertaking that making a $200 + million dollar is, and how this man has forged successful body of work that inspires awe from his fans, and vitriol from critics, there is no denying what he created with the TF films.

In his own words, he makes movies for teenage boys, whom he views as having a taste for juvenile, trash. So in the dialect of teenagers, "Robot nutz & titz! TF muvees freakin' blow robo-ballz #bro #norobobro #mbsux! "

 

You know what; I agree with this. This guy is at least far more interesting when he's allowed off the chain. Plus Bad Boys and The Rock have a solid production crew who've been around the traps a few times but are on a similar wavelength to him so that's always nice for a director.

 

I think for the time period that The Rock and Bad Boys fit nicely into what was happening with films and entertainment.

R-rated movies aren't really even CAPABLE of being blockbuster, massively profitable movies within the current economic, theatrical-run/budgetary system anymore, and riotously hilarious, graphically violent, boundary-pushing, OVER-THE-TOP, MEGAHIT, BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES ARE MICHAEL BAY'S STOCK-IN-TRADE, not to mention the fact that the titular, main characters of the TF franchise are SO EXPENSIVE to depict onscreen that OVER-THE-TOP, MEGAHIT, BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES are exactly what they NEED to be...

SO PG-13 it is.

And THAT is where he really excels, imho.

Coincidentally both The Rock and Pain and Gain featured Ed Harris.

We Need Ed Harris in a Transformers movie.

said it before & ill say it again; michael bay is a legendary filmmaker & you can absolutely put him up there with the all-time greats like speilberg, kubrick, cameron.

bad boys is ahead of its time if you go back & watch films from the mid to late 90s..& the rock is considered one of the greatest action films of all-time. bay is the master of the action genre & that cannot be denied...most modern day film makers, for better or worse, are bay-type clones...bay himself, is a hybrid of speilberg & tony scott

1 of the cooler things about bay's films is that he never has one-dimensional villains..they always have ample screen time to flesh out the characters.

that said, as beautifully shot as the transformers films are, i think with the platform film 1 set up for them, the series as a whole thus far, coulda been better, especially with films 2-4. but i do think the writing is the biggest problems with films 2-4 but regardless bay is director & he is ultimately responsible.

2 & 4 are nothing special and 3, while gorgeous, is a disaster of a film; specifically once sentinel turns.

but, in my opinion, he absolutely has to do films 5 & 6..his style is so unique it would be a completely different film without him at the helm & that's not good for continuity.

 

I mean, technically these things are already R-rated in terms of Robot Gore. If these dudes where actually human it would be some Mortal Kombat level Shit, Immediate R rating.
