I doubt it. I don't think they've even gone into production yet. If they felt there was going to be a sizable financial hit, they'd just cancel the run and put it on retailers to notify and refund customers.

I think retailers would take the biggest hit if they did release it. The retailer is the one that pays FanToys, not the consumer. So if it is released, retailers get left with extra stock that they can't move which results in a financial loss.

Normally Im not a fan of hot rod, but Holy Shit - as stated in the third post. I have a quaky too, but not sure if I am sold on this version yet. Def a hell of a time to get FT a run for their money.

More than happy with Quakewave and honestly, that Hot Rod looks kinda shitty - but a good paint job might fix it.

All around, the least exciting MP announcement I can recall.

    Thanks. :)

Depends on who you ask, as some folk prefer the 3P options of course. Personally speaking I generally prefer the official options based on previous history and certainly in all the examples given, although Shockwave is a close call at this stage as I do love Quakewave. I am generally quite choosey with the 3P items I pick up though, and wouldn't have gone for the likes of Bii or Stack even without an official option, personally. With Shockwave I'm happy to have two versions of the same character and have the opportunity to enjoy two (hopefully!) great figures. For me, it's not just about filling each character spot with just one version as soon as possible - it's also about enjoying some great figures along the way. :)

So, here's hoping for a grey MP Shockwave as well, right?

Oof, didn't expect that! If anything I'm a bit surprised TT went for Shockwave over Galvatron (who also happens to have two 3rd party offerings upcoming) in terms of big name characters, but still impressed by the figure.

And I've been clamouring for a smaller, dedicated MP Hot Rod for ages, so he's extremely welcome.
I don't think I've ever seen that art before... Always wondered where TT's infamous fake-MP13-Shockwave-silhouette came from, now I know!
Same here. I don't regret owning Quakewave; indeed he's been a great MP Shockwave figure these last few years, but I've always known there were things that could be improved (such as the legs) and am happy to finally see an official version.
Yeah I wonder if it's too late for them to cancel? If not I can imagine them haemorrhaging a lot of money because of this. The worst part is knowing they delayed all that other cool stuff for it   Guess they were a little too over-eager to combat Quakeblast. Potentially a very bad move.

I'm tempted to get two MP Hot Rods: one to go with my MP display and one to be my Classics Rodimus. Anyone else think it will work for Classics/Generations?

Gotta disagree. I think the real, official, Masterpiece "Ultra Magnus" looks like Citizen Stack's dumpy younger brother. As such, I have Citizen Stack (and Dia Stack) proudly standing on my Masterpiece shelf. And I'd call Bii vs 'Bee a tie. Both are waaay too small, but Bii does a better job matching the toon, including the chibi alt mode, while 'Bee is of higher overall quality and has a better (subjective, of course) transformation. Obviously, your mileage may vary.

I fully understand that lots of folks prefer Magnus over Stack, and the proto Shockwave to Quakewave. If what you want is utter fealty to the toon, then those are absolutely the way to go. Just bear in mind that other folks may view the toon designs as overly simplified for the sake of animation ease (one might call it laziness, were he feeling uncharitable), and prefer something with more detail. And that's fine, too.

For everyone who passed on Quakewave and is happy about Shockwave, to you I say "Congratulations!" I wish you nothing but happy collecting.

Personally, it seems like the MP line has shifted its design aesthetic significantly. Figures like Optimus, Sideswipe, Prowl, and Wheeljack closely followed the animation models, but integrated real-world car details and even many of the toy features that the toon omitted. It seems like those were near-perfect combinations of influences that resulted in top-notch toys with broad appeal. Since Magnus or Ironhide or so, it feels like they're placing toon accuracy far and away at the top of their priorities, and in some cases it works to the toy's detriment. Magnus, Ironhide, and Shockwave look rather plain to me. Yes, they were streamlined in the animation, and if that's what you like, then great.

However, I'm glad we have choices for what we buy. Given the option, I would prefer to buy an official Takara (or Hasbro) product. But, if I feel their rendition is lacking, I feel no compunction to avoid a 3P product that I like better. To each his own. Viva la difference!

I kinda wonder how much Fans Toys' rush to get that reissue out will bite them in the ass, especially since they wound up getting delayed. And now this is announced, and so the delay will only end up hurting them. They coulda gotten the initial rush of orders if they'd not delayed it.

    Their loss, TT's gain.

But MP-09 was Rodimus Prime AND Hot Rod. He had 2 very different vehicle modes, 2 different faces and 2 different sizes. Seems to me the only thing Hot Rod 2.0 has going for it is a fishing pole.

Shockwave looks good but still happy with Quakewave so I don't mind having both. Hot Rod's wide arms and tiny legs look off to me but I'll wait to judge. Need a new Rodimus Prime still. MP-09 tries to do too much.
