Really tempting to just ship my pile of loot even though he's the only figure in it right now...

I'm really, really excited for this toy, BUT ... why did they use Prowl's head mold? I think the standard MP Bluestreak head looks more like the original toy. And it would be nice to have yellow eyes. There was only ever a toy version of blue Bluestreak, so I would have tried to evoke the toy as much as possible. Still excited though. I love the mythical blue Bluestreak deco :)

its a blue and silver version of mp17 minus the lightbar.
    even tfwiki has it wrong.
it has prowls head because its prowls entire body.
and all the diaclone fairlady cars had the same head and robot mode detail.
also hes not the same guy as mp18.

If you look closely, the MP Prowl head is actually more accurate to the original toy and box art than the MP Bluestreak. The details are there, like the ridges at the center of the crest, and the "earmuffs" on the sides of the helmet. The shape of the crest is a bit elongated on the MP, but still closer to the shape of the original toy. Also, the crotch is more accurate on the Prowl version.

DID a "blue bluestreak" toy ever actually exist? I mean, besides as a sample used to photograph those old catalogs?

For me, the strongest nostalgic connection to "Blue Bluestreak" is to that awesome old G1 box art... which is why this one needs those missile launchers on the shoulders! :D

He existed in Diaclone before he was labeled as "Bluestreak" in Hasbro's catalog picture.

Man, if I didn't already have Prowl and normal Bluestreak, I would be all over this guy. He's gorgeous. But, I'm a slave to show/movie accuracy, no matter the series.

Although, MP-18's face is more accurate to the original toy, with the shape of the eyes, the shorter nose and the goatee. I think MP-18's head looks more like the G1 toy over-all.

According to TFWiki, it didn't, and was just a holy grail that everyone looked for based on the box art and catalogues (which was presumably a Diaclone figure used for the photo shoots), but was never actually released.

Me too. I could never get the figure as a kid, and was always confused about why he was black and silver in the cartoon when all the pictures I saw of him were blue, and his name was clearly a pun on being a fast car and talking a blue streak.

As I said above, I do agree that the standard MP Streak face (but not the head crest) looks more like the original toy, and before I had this in hand, I agreed with you - I preferred the Streak face and wished they'd used it for this. However, having Bluestreak in hand, I have changed my mind. This things is absolutely beautiful, and has replaced Streak as my favourite version of the Datsun mould. Painted blue and with a lighter silver, the head sculpt takes on a different character to Prowl somehow, and looks perfect, even if it isn't so faithful to the original toy. And as Bluestreak was the first TF toy I ever saw (in the advert in my signature, in fact), this hits all the right nostalgia buttons for me and is now one of my favourite MPs.

Tony - gorgeous photos as always. I also jealously note that you are one of the few to get one with no blemishes on the hood. :)

got mine in the mail from kapow early this week. IMO he's a great addition. I love the colour and the mix of silver streaks car mode bits and Prowls robot mode parts.

I'd love to see repro labels make a set for this guy. nothing crazy just some stickers for the hips and some car lights.

Yeah, I really don't like that. They're both the same 1984 Bluestreak to me. If some of the IDW comics are to be believed, Silverstreak is a separate character to Bluestreak which I don't like either.

That was a real color scheme in 1980.

I WILL own that car one day, and slap an Autobot symbol on the hood. I saw one for sale while passing through a local town, and came back that weekend to find it had already sold.

On topic, gorgeous. However, this is simply fueling my desire for blue Bluestreaks in EVERY toy line I collect.

Here's a thought, its common knowledge that Sunstreaker and Sideswipe had their tech specs mixed up prior to production, hence why the 84 Sunstreaker toy looks to have piledriver arms and built in rocket pack, things that were mentioned in Sideswipe's bio.

With that in mind (forgetting the 84 blue myth), could it be possible that Bluestreak and Smokescreen had their names/bios mixed up?

Grey/Smoke colours would better suit somebody called Smokescreen, just as a blue rally car would suit the name Bluestreak?

That's almost certainly not the case (I didn't know that about the Lambo twins, though, thanks for that!). Remember that all of the G1 artwork for Bluestreak showed him blue, and that he was blue in the original catalogues and leaflets that came with the toy:

I even had the transforming jigsaw which had Bluestreak as blue (the closest I got to owning Bluestreak):

Almost certainly what happened was that Budiansky created the names and bios based on the Diaclone artwork and toys that he thought were being put out by Hasbro, saw the fast blue car and thought of the phrase "to talk a blue streak" and how that would make a great double meaning, so that the personality of Bluestreak was born. I always thought it was a shame that the double meaning was lost by making him silver. The final colour scheme of Bluestreak was weird - everyone wanted the blue one that was in the catalogues, the cartoon used the other Diaclone variant with the black bonnet, and then Hasbro went completely their own way and made him all silver. I'd love to know exactly what went on there. :)

Also, Smokescreen was part of season 2, so I believe his bio would have been written after that of all the original S1 characters.

I'm aware of all that, just saying that for Smokescreen to have smokey colours would fit :)

But you asked whether it was possible that their bios and names were switched... It wasn't. :)

Anyway, I'm loving owning a blue Bluestreak at last, and this gallery did him full justice.
