I didn't like Beast Wars when it first came out in 1996, and I was 13 at the time. The Transformers are all animals now? Ridiculous! Primal? What? But I watched it anyway because it was new Transformers cartoons for the first time in about a decade (obviously G2 didn't count) and the animation was great. But in time I came to really love it, and it now remains in my mind one of the greatest Transformers cartoons ever to get made. The characters and the epic stories that came about, especially in the last 2 seasons, really won me over.

I admit I didn't want to follow this blog through Headmasters and all that other crap. I'm not a big Beast Wars fan but I would be interested to follow your views on it.

Btw, the only reason I don't love BW is because it's less heavy metal war and moar Zoo playground battle. The stories themselves in seasons 2 and 3 are some of the best the franchise has to offer.

I can't say I'm not disappointed, but it's your call, Captain. I'll follow along, but I really don't share the love for Beast Wars that everyone has. I was aware of the show and watched a few episodes but I don't have the connection that many of my contemporaries have for it. In my case, it was the Alternators line, not Beast Wars that brought me back to the franchise. Plus, since I was more aware of the toys than I was the show, I'm just not a fan of some of the design ideas that they went with.

I thought Beast Wars mirrored the original series in several ways, primarily that the first season seems to be directed at a younger audience and it really doesn't pick up until the second season. It does eventually have some of the best writing in any Transformers cartoon, it's just a grind to get to them.

Damn, I was sure there were more votes for Headmasters! Guess I'll have to roll through that on my own, and maybe catch up to BW a little later.

What's there to be disappointed about? Headmasters will come after Beast Wars.

I'll follow your blog through Beast Wars. I just watched it for the first time last year with my son. I wouldn't really be interested in following Headmasters or the other Japanese cartoons because I haven't watched them yet.

I didn't choose the word. I was just commenting on what others had said and how I feel about it.

Make sure you watch Beast Machines after Beast Wars! Beast Machines was a direct continuation of Beast Wars.

    Essentially, yups.
While I liked BM way more than BW, you need to watch BW for the back story and to fully appreciate some of the bold moves in BM.

    Oh Captain My Captain!

Glad you finished this project. When you can, re-watch the movie. It's too damned good to watch only once, or even twice!

Glad to know you will start another blog. Have fun with it. To me, G1 ended with season 3. I despise the notion of headmasters AND beast wars. They are both crappy gimmicks to me. Headmasters was dumb to me even as a 10 year old, and this is coming from a fan who still visits these boards today as a 39 year old.

And Beast Wars... yeah, I know every one says it's a great show. But I will never get over how dumb the notion is to me. Ugh.

I remember being in high school and hearing that this show called Beast Wars (something I heard of but never paid attention to) was actually a TF show. I had no idea. I didn't like it then. Don't now.

In fact, TFs were pretty much dead to me until Bayformers 1. Then, a couple of years ago I saw some of the masterpiece toys and was blown away by how awesome they are. So now I have a nice little collection and it reinvigorated my interest.

Cool stuff. Know also that as kids we had years with the shows, toys, comics, etc. that kept us interested. And, obviously, as kids we had different sensibilities. Watching everything over the course of months (or binge-watching in general) takes away from the overall experience.

But still, this was a great ride! Well done, sir!

Beast Wars, then Beast Machines, then Headmasters? I'm not going to question you're commitment to the project, (I've been wrong on that before, eh?) but damn.

Edit: Oh, btw, there's a Japanese continuation of Beast Wars as well.

    Thanks for joining us, tfparodies!

I would love to watch the film again but I can't find it for a decent price!

    Yup!

Who knows, maybe I'll wear out in the middle and call it quits (I doubt it) but it will be fun along the way. ;D

I am poor as hell at the moment, but I can't stand the fact that you don't have a copy of the movie. So instead of buying you a copy I will gladly give you one of mine.

I got to see what I can find, but when I do I'll be happy to send it to you.

Might I suggest just starting a new thread, CS?
