Dictionary definition: images portraying women in a manner which emphasizes idealized or stereotypical sexual attractiveness.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of cheesecake(hence it's name, cos cheesecake is yummy XD) but there is a time and place for it. I agree with Gaga and grindcore138, I think Sakamoto is sensible enough to hold back on the cheesecake in MTMTE even without Editorial interference so I'm not too worried, but it will be a final test for him.

Sakamoto got some flak from mostly Western fans for his previous work, which included sexified fembots. Things like giving Flamewar in the Botcon comic jiggling tits or Flare Up panty shots. Never bothered me too much, but I can see why other people aren't fans of him for it.

I see, thank you for explaining. Yes, seems a bit misplaced in robots.

I'm just glad they aren't using someone awful like Ramondelli, or Raiz
Sakamoto san is a good fill in for Milne on the months we can't have him.

Just a reminder, if you enjoyed Sakamoto's work for #39 (and perhaps if you like what he does with #44), please consider dropping IDW a quick line to let them know.

His detractors have largely seemed the vocal sort, so some support to balance them out may be useful.

I worked with Sakamoto again on 44 doing coordination, and my expectations are that people who enjoyed is work in 39 will be very happy this time around! It's a big story issue, so it was fun to work on.

As is always the case on MTMTE, Sakamoto is very tasteful with his depiction of female characters in the book. In particular, I liked Windblade's appearance.

Hope you guys will pick it up!

Well that's good to know. I really liked 39's art, so I'm looking forward to this one. And...wait, Windblade is in it? That's interesting...

You know, you could just skip the rest of Combiner Wars if you don't want to read it. MTMTE had nothing to do with it other than the Protectobots leaving for Cybertron at the end of MTMTE #43 (and they're already on their way back to the Lost Light as of Transformers #44).

It's great to see people here accept Sakamoto for what he use to draw, and not boycott MTMTE 44. It's annoying to see people on Tumblr complain about him whilst they draw/write some erotic stuff with the bots.

Boycotting a book just because it's drawn by Sakamoto makes no sense.

Firstly, this is a licenced franchise, not a creator-owned book. Whatever is drawn by the artist must be approved by the editor or it won't go into print.

Even if Sakamoto has a preference for drawing females in a certan way, and he may have it being a manga artist, it's also up to publishers to iron things out with artists.

Secondly, boycotting the artist so he can't draw anything else and has opportunity only for drawing what he was drawing before... Is also counterproductive.

Artists draw what sell, if the only thing that they can sell will be roboboobs, they will draw roboboobs.

And, yeah, tumblr is probably the last place in the web where people should be complaining about overly shippy TF art.

No one was that bothered that he drew ladies in a sexy way (well? They were a little bit) it was more to do with the fact that he used to draw shotacon (gay pornography involving under age boys).

Personally, so long as he delivers good, tasteful art I don't care what he used to draw however manu years ago. But if people want to boycott his work because they're uncomfortable with the shotacon stuff then that's fine by me. It's not my place to judge someone for that choice especially when I don't know they're history.

Just one note I'd like to make (more of a general response than to you in particular)--it's not a simple division between people OK with him here and people not OK with him on tumblr. There's both on both platforms (and there are many people, of varying genders, who frequent both platforms).

Overall, no matter where you go, the most common view seems to be indifference as long as the issues he does turn out fine.

You know, that's a pretty fair viewpoint-- you have your own thoughts on the matter, but at the same time, won't scorn others for theirs. I like that! I wish that mindset was encountered more often on the internet.

I myself am on your side for the most part-- I agree that as long as what he draws now is well-done and tasteful, I could care less about what he did while slumming it as a rookie artist. But I certainly wouldn't try to make those who ARE uncomfortable read anyway.

Blip upgraded his body off panel. Why is that an inconsistency? It happens all the time.

When he draws explicit underage gay pornography in a Transformers comic, then people are free to boycott it. Until then, I urge them not to.

Relatively positive it was a mistake. Body upgrades don't ever result in a completely different head design on top of everything else, nor usually a different colour-scheme.

As for boycotting, I totally support people who choose to do it. I am also uncomfortable with the notion that I am paying for the artwork of an artist with a child porn history, I just don't have the strength to boycott MTMTE because I love it so much.

Blip was described in the script as transforming into a helicopter, so it wasn't an art mistake.

It's VERY rare for Sakamoto to make any sort of error related to character depiction, because he's absolutely meticulous and devoted to consistency, going so far as to be nitpicky about things like relative height, weapon, alt mode, and so on...

Edits tend to be about the usual mundane stuff such as camera angle, and leaving enough space for all the dialogue to make it in. There's certainly never been an issue with his depiction of female characters thus far, even with him being in the position of designing Nickel.

Because, imagine that: Sakamoto knows how to draw in a style that's appropriate for the medium he's working on. Just like a good actor or director: When they work on comedy, or sensitive drama, or an exploitation film, they can do each in a way that's consistent with the genre.

And if there's one thing that the comments in this thread as well have made clear, it's that Sakamoto is good enough to do the work. With MTMTE, Alex's shoes are ones that not just anybody could drop in and fill. But he does, and I think you'll feel that keenly when you read 44.

It was a pleasure for me to work with him again, and coordinate the art for an issue that, like 39, I feel will really make an impression.

I hope we get plenty of obscure homages again. It was a lot of fun figuring out everyone in that last page of his last issue.
