neither does size if you want to compare this to MMC limb bots. I do think looks manner as the finish and the sophistication of the product usually plays more into where the market will bite than size or general appearance. Throw in some desirability (ie, I'm spending $500 on a big ol' Predaking!) and you end up with an $80-100 combiner bot. I'll admit, I wouldn't pay for most of these 3P combiner toys if they didn't become part of the larger bot, that's a huge part of the novelty. Otherwise many (all?) of them have subpar engineering compared to say a somewhat smaller MP toy being sold for an equivalent price on say BBTS.

ah, another futile appeal to reason. Being entitled and nitpicking is a hallmark of the fandom, well of any fandom really (except maybe brown coats). I do agree with you, but I'll then throw up my hands in surrender and refer you to my signature ;)

    Pretty much nailed the alt-mode!

I feel if it had a better head, hands, and smoothed out some of the stuff on upper arms, it would make a huge difference, I don't mind the hips so much.

I think I'll stick to Leader-class Jetfire for my classics stuff.

I don't know what to say about this figure. Its getting a lot of negativity. Perhaps they will re-evaluate the price, hands and head and then release it. All the points are valid. Trying to be positive about it but most of the concerns are valid. Hopefully things will get better for Mecaform

This feels like a 3P product that would have come out years ago....like an Impossible Toys product or something. This is way too weak to compete in the 3P world as it exists today...and the price...Jesus. I'm content waiting for FansToys to release their Skyfire.

They took this tone to take in fan input and redesign parts of the figure.

    Face sculpt
    Hands
    Waist.

They have done absolutely no improvements in the time since the figure was shown and the comments made.

Hollow Hasbro jetfire fits just fine compared to this.

This toy won't get positive reviews, I can feel it in my bones. I know it's supposed to fill in a Jetfire shaped hole in our CHUG/Neo-Classics collection, but it's 2015. A Jetfire has been released in between 2013 and 2015, and this has been rendered, instantly, obsolete.

Really people can dislike a figure and still be civil and reasonable about it when commenting. And let's face it; this unlicensed 3rd party market exists and thrives specifically due to fans feeling entitled to figures of characters that haven't been made yet or figures looking the way they want them.

My highly customized, action master Kronos/Skyfire just wanted to let you all know that until FanToys or some company of that ilk decides to produce a MP sized Skyfire, he is in fact the undisputed Skyfire Champion of the World.

He also added that he's going to look fantastic paired with that new TRU MP Starscream.

Even tho I love the alt mode, the robot mode is just plain at best, his chest just doesn't have any curves the way Skyfire has it is all just straight lines. And don't even get me started on his face,I will sum that up with 3 syllables Hi-De-Ous.

And with this thing still being unfinished after 2 whole years it is unclear if/when Mecha will ever release this thing.Which in my case I think Never given how long its taken.Hate to be that way but with so many 3P's out there maybe Mecha just decided to pack it up,just sayin.

I'm not sure if you're agreeing or disagreeing exactly, but never said they couldn't comment/criticize and I certainly have done my share of criticizing here. But it's the civil part that you mention where things can go veering off into the wilds and some (most?) of us just sit here shaking our heads wondering how toys can engender such wrath in people.

I do try to give people the benefit of the doubt when deciding whether they are just unhappy with something or bewilderingly bonkers over it for no reason... but when stuff like ARRRRMAIGASH WHEELJACK COLORS WRONG MP RUINED FOREVERRRR, or KOBAYASHI IS THE SPAWN OF A MANATEE AND A MYOPIC CYLOPS, WHY NO HASUI MAKE EVERY TF TOY EVARRR pops up, well you can understand why I tend to giggle when the very non-representative rabid minority take a thread on a ride into the depths of our inner petty man-children.

actually what's kinda sad is that I made those capped comments with a tongue in cheek mentality, but it's really not far off (or maybe even milder) from some of the things I've seen posted on this board... it's pretty good entertainment tho.

This is how I feel pretty much. I'm perfectly happy with my Kronos, and if I can get the Fans Toys figure when it comes out, then that may be an option as well. I think this is a valiant effort, but it's just not for me.

the alt mode is absolutely perfect and spot on to the animation model. wow.

robot mode is aight. I'm glad to see he doesn't have a rotating waste especially since he also never had a rotating waste in the show.

I can't see the face too well due to the shoddy photos.

also, they kinda failed at showing off what the legs can actually do.

I'll wait for a proper video review before biting on this.

and wow. that price is kinda scary. it better be due to parts count and diecast. lol

and has anyone started raging about the landing gear yet? :lol

People need to stop comparing it to kronos, they are both completely different aesthetics for two completely different classes of figures. :p

Kronos was cheaper at $159.99. Comparison is relevant. Not to mention that this thread is slightly older than the then Kronos thread by a matter of weeks. Mechaform announced theirs first.

    Sky guardian has landing gear.

I really feel torn in this Sky guardian matter, because I still like most aspects
about it. Some observations I made from all the Sky guardian photographs until now:

    Pro's:

    - ...he has landing gear : his rifle attaches under jet fuselage and folds out front landing gear wheel. Rear wheels fold out from lower legs.

    - plastic quality and engineering look good to me ; i see no warped pieces or mold flash.
surface detail and panel lining look crisp and clean.

    - he has a full perfect transformation - which, if I figured it out correctly, seems to be fun. That's quite an achievement for a character which never had any blueprint. Full transformation.

    - Opinion : I like Sky guardian's style better than Kronos. In fact, I liked the very first Kronos prototype better than final Kronos. Then this caught my eye, because he does portray the cartoon Skyfire the way I perceived him in the cartoon.

    - Size : he is "only" 10 inch tall. I don't like really big figures. I am also not MP oriented so I fully see him in CHUG and CW context.

    Cons:

    - Although the transformation scheme is clever to make the cartoon looks work ; it has one less than nice side effect : hollow thigh legs.

    - Obviously, the face sculpt is subpar. Maybe/hopefully it's not so bad in person, seeing it next to CHUG and CW figures....maybe......

    - The price : yes he is MP size at 10 inch, but he lacks MP features such as fully articulated hands/wrists, lack of ankle tilts and lack of waist swivel. Even with a good face sculpt, the price should be lower.

I have emailed Mecha Form with my concerns. They replied and told me they are aware of the concerns ( the online feedback and reactions so far ) They said, that unfortunately, the molds have been finalized, ready for a limited production run ( a few hundreds ). If orders will not do well, they might indeed close up the entire operation.

So yeah.... I am still convinced I will like most things about Sky guardian. The price as listed so far is prohibitive and I think I'll wait a little while to see if it'll go down in price.
