I think an implied beergut works for him as a character. Kind of the old, rough around the edges senior NCO type.

Has anyone figured out what that little divot is, at the top of Ironhides nose??

Pretty sure that's just an imprint from wearing his reading glasses

But seriously, hopefully just a mark left-over from hand-painting. Wouldn't expect it on the real deal.

I don't expect to see it on the final either, but it's on both of the faces. Weird, maybe the face is meant to be slid further up into the crest. maybe that's why his chin sits so low?

That might not be possible, it looks like the face and front crest is one piece so the face won't be moving up or down, just in.

i still just really wish they would've been able to get the chest/torso more accurate.

i'm definitely going to get this, but i don't think it's as good as it could be. from the waist down looks perfect, the arms and shoulders are great, the top of the chest works, but the head and abdomen are what's killing it for me. having the entire front of the van be his entire torso just doesn't feel masterpiece enough.

i mean, you have the bumper and everything, i don't know, the more i look at it, the more it bothers me. they could've, at the very least, had the sides of the bumper fold around to resemble more of an abdomen/waist with the top being his chest rather than the whole thing being one non transforming piece.

I noticed that. Definitely an (unnecessary) molded detail, like those molded lines running parallel on either side of his crest. Doesn't ruin anything for me, though. I'm glad the chin piece was done away with. In fact, as far as detailing goes, he might be the most accurate to the cartoon since MP-09. There are his van parts, then just about every molded detail I can see on this guy corresponds with the cartoon. Love it.

This guy is suffering from universe sideswipe syndrome.
I think I can say that most people enjoy that mold, the universe sideswipe/sunstreaker mold, but the photos shown pre-release of sideswipe looked awful, but the toy itself wasn't bad at all.
Allmost all the photos of this guy have made him look bad. Be it an awkward pose or just low quality, I don't think we can make an entirely clear judgement from these stock photos.
But thankfully this guy isn't anywhere near as likely to be as expensive as some of the other MP guys ( cough-seekers- cough)...

The problem I have with it has nothing to do with the way it's been photographed. My problem is that the entire torso is one piece.

Also, I really liked universe sideswipe, even the first photos of him.

Not sure what you mean, Timothy.R. The torso is made up of a bunch of pieces...

I mean that there's no transformation involved except for the very bottom, it's basically the entire front of the van. I guess what bothers me most is the bumper. I really wish they folded the sides around or something, something to make the chest stand out a bit more.

This is what I think it's wrong with this figure. I exaggerated it a bit, but you'll get the idea:

The hip joints are placed behind the spine and I really, REALLY hope it's mistransformed somehow in those pictures. If not, I'm going to mod it because that's unacceptable to me. Someone mentioned the high heel look earlier in this thread, and this is the reason.

Also, if you look in the picture with him, Prime and BB, it seems that the waist joint is off-center like MP Rodimus, which doesn't help either.

I don't think I'll ever look at Ironhide the same way. Thanks, M.

Now that you mention it, I'm seeing it everywhere. MP Ironhide's got it, CW Skydive has it, MP Roadrage has it, CW Menasor has it, and that's just from memory. Maybe it's a trend in Japan where that little split on the nose means something. Can someone more knowledgeable about Japanese Pop Culture chime in?

Or maybe it's like those weird complicated chin designs lots of faces got (like Metroplex) from a couple of years back that was influenced by... IDW? Whatever, luckily it's not too noticeable on Ironhide.
