Agreed, when I first saw the AOE dinobots toys I said "do them in G1 colors and I am in", then they added the heads so forget it these are so bought. I would rather pay $100 for 5 cool looking G1sh Dinobots (these guys pass my squint test) then $100 a pop for 3rd party super G1 ones, just my preference.

Oh man those head sculpts are actually really great. I may actually get this after all. I mean it's not like the Dinos aren't my favorites already...

As a person who did not get the sdcc set I'm extremely happy about this set. I got the regular AOE dinobots but this set can easily replace them. I was actually having no plans to snag this set until I saw The pics.

The new heads were a surprise and while I know I'm going to end up getting this set for the sake of Dinobots and Dinobots alone there's just something about trying to use movie toys to stand in for G1/Generation characters that doesn't look quite right.

A great move is completing a Seeker collection when neither Hasbro or Takara had any plans to make more Classics. :)

But it still wouldn't be a good investment

They could use the money they spend remaking the Dinobots to instead make 5 new characters with modern engineering and reach a far greater audience. I mean, look at Whirl and Roadbuster: Blatently made G1 as possible because they can never reissue those molds

Yeah, Dinobot rereleases would sell out to the fan crowd. But it still wouldn't be enough to recoup their costs. Hell, the only reason Trypticon got reissued is only 3 pieces need to be remade. More than that, and its likely he wouldn't have happened either

While the new heads are nice it's still not G1 Dinobots and some days I really don't think we are ever going to get CHUG Dinobots.

I almost bought the SDCC set until I read the 'rumors' of the G1 Dinos. Although there were rumors that the original moulds were lost or damaged, I was hoping against hope that they would be repaired etc.

I recall that the some of the original G1 TF moulds were damaged (I think Soundwave? Jazz?). I'm so crushed by this release...I guess I will now go into 3P Dinos.

Yeah, I agree. And the worst is Swoop...a dino with 2-heads??? X(

Yeah, Robots + dinos are a win-win combos. Even if Hasbro is unwilling to repair the original moulds, give us new voyager moulds.

I don't know... KO guys have been making a mint selling the dinobots. Now, whether they have stolen original molds or or made new ones, but they seem to be doing quite well with the Dinobot molds. I do think it would be in HasTak's best interest to do these, especially because everyone realizes the odds of a complete set of CHUG Dinobots are slim to nil.

So... while I'm still not too interested in this set, my wife is. Any word on where this is being released and for how much?

Also, I was being serious in my previous post - does anyone have a TRU 'Evolutions' two-pack AOE Grimlock they'd like to offload? Or the set itself, if it's cheap?

As much as I like what I've seen from pics of this set, I still wish that the weird sideways elbows had been remolded. But even just a minor fix like adding wrist rotation, provided by using mushroom type pegs on the hands, might have helped a little. Adding G1 rifles & swords would really take this set to the next level, maybe a 3P can help with that. What's needed are more & clearer pics, please.

Oh, wow... The G1 head on Bayverse bodies make these look like Frankstein monstrosities, it just doesn't fit together at all. I feel bad for the people who got the SDCC version though... I personaly didn't like all the chrome to begin with, so again this is an easy pass.

    I want CHUG Dinobots dammit!

I suppose these guys do have a bit of an IDW Dinobots vibe, so I'm fairly certain that was what Hasbro was trying to go for with this release (seeing how the Dinobots in the IDW comics have somewhat Cybertronian dino forms with lots of segmented angles and organic spikes and WFC/FOC-ish glowy bits thrown in for good measure, not to mention the head sculpts appear fairly IDW-ish too).

This must be like the 10th time I've seen someone say this. :lol  Why feel bad at all? This gives an opportunity for others to pick up this set, including those who bought/liked the SDCC set (with the pop-up Ark box + Amazon Slog) and like the look of these Platinum figures too (and don't mind double-dipping).

Stuff is only worth what you think you're willing to pay for it, in the end. Doesn't apply to just Transformers. I have the SDCC + Amazon Slog figures and will be getting the Platinum Dinobots too! The more, the merrier, I say.

The only people who'd possibly feel bad are those who bought the SDCC set thinking it's some kind of exclusive golden unicorn (it wasn't since it warmed at HTS for a while) whose value would only increase over time like some sort of stock investment (toys as a whole are very shitty investments; get toys because you like and enjoy them, not as a financial vehicle to get rich quick).

I suppose those expecting straight up G1 Dinobot reissues would feel bad too, but that's only because they let themselves believe the hype train / rumor mill based on very speculative information, sight unseen. No one to blame but themselves there, IMHO.

But in other news, Hasbro likes to make redecos/repaints. Lots of them. Shocking, I know, right? :D

Looks like this will be the only premium set I will buy. Those headsculpts and the detailing is awesome.
Too bad the community is still too stuck up on what it's, "entitled". Damn G1.

Only one I like is Slag, but that's because his design is already really G1. The colors looked really out of place on the SDCC sets already, and the new heads somehow just make it worse.

Well, with the original molds either lost or destroyed, the only way we would have seen reissues happen is if new molds were made from reverse engineering the original toys, And I think that would've only happened if the whole venture was a joint effort between Hasbro and Takara. Way too much cost for Hasbro to justify doing it by themselves.

And it would appear that Takara no longer cares about reissues and the Encore line. The last one was Fort Max, and that was what, 3? 4 years ago? Not a thing since. And if they won't even consider the Dinobots, sure money makers, then that would suggest Takara has abandoned the reissue market entirely and left it to Hasbro to shoulder all the costs themselves if they wanna reissue something.

New heads are great and could swing it for me, if only they'd taken a leaf from the Combiner Hunters set and stuck some extra weapons in too - a blaster or two, or at least swapped out Grimlock's awful mace for the FOC Sword & Shield combo.
Having never owned any of the deluxe AOE Dinos I'm curious how they shape up height-wise compared Combiner Wars deluxes, could someone snap a couple of comparisons pics for a curious fella, please?
