All I could do was face palm and then silently scream "Why does this matter! How do you not know Star Wars" at my phone. A good laugh too.

Personally, I just laugh at everyone, but I try to focus on the latter group, mostly because unlike the people that get over it, there's no easy, immediate way to make them go away.

I'd imagine that's partially why people seem to "Tolerate" the moral guardians that like crushing everything they don't like; namely, that you can't get rid of them. That "tolerance" might actually just be people deciding to ignore them and move on with their lives.

The whole thing seemed like a "I want to get on the news so I'll be 'outraged' at something" piece. The guy is old enough there is no way he hasn't seen or heard of Slave Leia. Also if his daughters are interested in buying Star Wars figures, they've probably seen the movies and seen Leia in this outfit.

The station (which ISN'T FOX NEWS. Just a local Fox affiliate) probably ran it since it probably will get ratings. I can see the ads now for the night's newscast: "Tonight at 10, what shocking toy is being sold in local stores? You won't believe it!"

I do wonder why Hasbro did label it as Slave Leia and not how they did in the past by calling it "Jabba's Prisioner Leia".

Now imagine, if those two groups of people were nicely formed into two sides of a very involved spectrum socially.

    Now.....who could that be......

They were probably pretty quiet about all the stuff in it while it comprised the bulk of their channel's offerings to children.

I don't like when parents resort to the argument that they don't want to have to explain weird or obtuse shit to their kids.

Guess what, it's your job, parent. Explain that shit to your kid who will prolly forget it anyway unless you act all offended like a dick in the first place.

Ahahaha, this story is comedy gold.

Seriously, it's like FOX aired this story as a sly attack on their uber rivals Disney.

A local station is arch rivals with Disney? I'd love to see the story how that rivalry started.

This is not FOX NEWS, just an affiliate station that airs FOX programs.

That's right. Mickey once went into their studios and clogged up their U-bend with a massive turd. Ever since then, Arch enemies.

That fuckin' mouse never throws straight dice anyway, screw him :p

On the topic at hand, I often find these stories very bizarre. Like I know it happens but I'd have thought with spending the past decade or so regularly going into toy stores for Transformers (and the occasional big of Lego) I'd have at least seen one of these people but they're like the Loch Ness Monster. Oft referenced, parodied but hardly seen.

That is quite possibly the saddest TRU exterior I have ever seen and I've seen closed TRU's in my area and even out of state.

Oh, right, the figure. What a dumptruck of fail that whole issue is. A figure that's been out for months, that's had figures done of the past, from an iconic pop culture movies pivotal scenes? The number of women who go to cons in that outfit, episodes of TV with women dressed in that outfit, but nope, it's a fresh drama to cry about to get on local TV!

    I'm not too worried...

    ----

It certainly did for my generation. Just look at all the costumes and attractive women who dress up as her, or make reference to it these days. It's not because they bow at the alter of Carrie Fisher, it's because of the blatant image Lucas was shooting for in that part of ROTJ.

    ----

Actually, quite the opposite for ALL news outlets, and it concerns a long-term, personal interest of mine. I'd give my opinion on it, but it would absolutely violate the forum rules, as well as take the thread WAAAAAAAAY off topic...

Well personally I can see how something being called "Slave" Leia can be seen as offensive to those who don't know the Context of the figure.

Just force them to watch Return of the Jedi and they'll be fine.
