I'm sure this is Hasbro's thought process too.

 

As much as I would prefer to have a new combiner head sculpt, I think this is what we'll get. I can't imagine they would have all the other remolding done for the figure and left the head the same. For me it would have made a big difference if they painted it closer to the original. Not a deal breaker for me by any means.

Given this guy is called "beta" tron I think that is Hasbro's way of saying that this isn't going to be the only technobot.

Because it would require new molds and they're not ready to make that many new molds just yet. We will probably see them at Botcon 2016.

You can see as well as I can it kinda resembles Superion's head but in red.

 

I googled g1 Scattershot and it looks like Silverbolt may have always been intended to be Scattershot at some point or originally now that I look at it.

 

Like others have said I hope Beta/Computron's just having Superion's head is the result of the final version not being ready, otherwise I can live with the 'bot and Combiner modes being unchanged, not that it wouldn't be nice if there was a least something changed.
I just hope the whole "he's called Betatron because he's the beta version of a future Combiner" thing is true and the rest of them are coming down the line.

 

looking at the official images, i can see the antena poking out of Scattershot's belly.

they're the redish orange color instead of superion colored.

so, if nothing else, Hasbro will give us a properly colored head, possibly a properly colored retool with a mouth.

honestly though, as mad as i was originally, he's growing on me (mostly). with or without a mouth, as long as they get the colors right, i'll be fine with him. The main additional retoolings i'd like, if any are done, are slight changes to the chest and main body to remove the final jet details (wheels on the combiner chest, windows on the main jet body/nose cone), or at least find a way to make them fit in with the rest of the aesthetic (for example, make the windows look like heat vents in the gun barrel).

 

Since we only got official shots of Scattershot himself and not his Combiner torso, I'll remain optimistic the head will either be repainted red and gold and/or remolded. Same optimism for his Technobot comrades being released. Deluxe limbs of motorcycle and tank molds exist and have been used only once. People complain this line re-molds/reuses a ton but at the same time are chosing to be blind to this obvious and "horrible" trend when it comes to Computron. Puzzling. I don't see how Computron will be an exception.

 

The more you justify and placate the garbage, the more you are going to get it. You've seen the torso. It's an orange Superion. There is no magic coming down the line, this isn't TakaraTomy.

 

In fairness, if - as evidenced by the fact you've reposted this image three times - this is your only frame of reference, you haven't actually seen Computron either. You've seen a conglomeration of twelve pixels arranged in an abstract shape vaguely resembling a robot's head.

By all means, keep going. This is golden.

 

 

I'l have to take back my earlier statement about the combiner head: I assumed they'd change it on the final producf before catching up on all the news. Now it seems the black Superion head was intentional..which makes zero sense to me, really.

Even if they're not releasing the other Technobots, why not just go with G1 Computron's colors? I was totally expecting Scattershot to be a Silverbolt repaint, so with that in mind I'm even surprised and happy that the robot mode has some remolding - but I totally would like a Computron torso just looking like Computron (colors wise, I don't mind the faceplate really).  

I can see people being upset that the combined mode doesn't look good anyway, but I'll object that. However, again, I really DO want a Computron and not some kind of half-way version that clearly has the exact same Superion head.  


But eh..I guess the mold exists now. Maybe Takara will reuse it for an actual Computron set..and if not, I bet a third party will make a new head.  

But they are similar enough, aren't they? Still not sure why they went with a faceplate on Superion in the first place (to set him apart from Defensor maybe?), but apart from that they both have the same general shape with antennae and visor.

Obviously the best course of action would be a custom, 100% accurate face, with a mouth, and the nose between the eyes/visor. But CW Superion's head painted in proper Computron colors wouldn't look bad at all, in my opinion.

 

I disagree, Afterburner cannot be groove. At least not the Legends Groove since there is no place for him on the chest.
What could happen is a retool/repaint of Deluxe takara Groove. And that being our Afterburner.

 

Computron has a mouth. CW Superion doesn't. That alone should be enough to justify any complaints people have about the head.

 

Nice thing about this, for some reason I can accept all the kibble hanging under Scattershot. Space plane and all.

On Silverbolt it was a real turn off having this slick jet with this huge brick of kibble underneath.

It's a problem with almost all the jets but it's particularly noticeable when other corners are being cut.

On my list as a maybe.

 

But dude... that mouth vs. faceplate is like maybe 5% of the surface area of the head.

I'd really appreciate a new head, but I think there are plenty of similarities. If they'd just paint it in Computron colors that'd make a much bigger difference it making it look like Computron than just changing a faceplate to a mouth.

-Nose making a separation in visor

 

1) Optimus Maximus doesn't need to be accurate to anything in torso mode since they made it up for this line. Scattershot does.

2) They retooled plenty of parts from Motormaster. The robot chest is the most obvious. The torso boobs with the matrix thingy also got remolded.

 

And like 30% of the part of the head you'll actually be seeing most of the time. And the head (to me at least) is one of the most important parts of actually identifying a character. I don't give a shit about paint, at least I can do that myself easily. I can't say the same about remolding a face. Like I said. The complaints are completely justified. People would be complaining just as much if they gave something like Bruticus a mouth instead of a faceplate because Bruticus is always recognized as having a faceplate.
