Ravage, Buzzsaw, and Laserbeak being capable of talking has been a thing since the very beginning of G1 in 1984. The Sunbow cartoon was the aberration for removing their ability to talk, not this.
Casettes always were vocal in G1 comic books, both US and UK. Lazerbeak and Buzzsaw less than others, but they did talk from time to time. Can't say I'm dismayed with wooden or stupid lines for any of these Cons. None of them is exactly a titan of intellect. It comes as a "joke" between a group of thugs who think that they're funny. I like Faireborne. She will develop neurosis and ulcers over her contacts with Cybertronians, but I like her anyway.
Thank Primus we are somewhat back to normal with the books after Combiner Wars. It looks good and the writing is okay. Is this out next week?
yeah I've never cared for the fact they were animalistic in the G1 cartoon. I loved it when Ravage spoke in Beast Wars and Laserbeak in DOTM. Sadly I don't like Faireborne, her backstory is so goddamn stupid and unrealistic.
There's nothing said how she raised to her position. Her title is not a military one, they address her as "director", so it looks like she's a civilian. Looks like she started as a political activist. It makes her career more possible. Old Witwicky was her military counterpart. This would made sense since organisation like EDC would need both civilian and military officials on top. I don't see nothing really unrealistic in her background. Fallout after AHM would make for a very good political climate for this kind of career. Defend our home from alien threats, blah, blah, It's not really stupid to be radical when aliens killed millions of your people, or being motivated by, basically, distrust and fear. Weird thing is EDC not trying to backstab Decepticons and kill them all anyway. I'd certainly try to backstab any alien pest as soon as I'm sure that they can't retaliate. But maybe humans will try in future. Would be nice of them, or at least a sensible thing to try. I don't mind aggressive human characters not liking Cybertronians. It's actually a pretty understandable stance to have after AHM. I don't see why human characters should be sympathetic or caring towards anyone from Cybertron. Verity is pretty much an exception, since she knows Autobots rather well. Blackrock comes as a shady type for me. He acts as if he was fine with doing everything for his profit. He's far too enthusiastic about aliens, probably because he thinks only about selling their tech.
Blackrock it is strange that he is not acting upset that Prowl took the Enigma from him. Faireborne the problem is like the writer can't get a feel for her when he writes her. Her background is not the problem for me per se it how some of stuff she acted stupidly.. "Everyone has secrets."
She's too nervous and overreacting. This character could act less rashly, as sometimes she comes as being borderline hysteric. Doesn't strike me as a someone who would be put in charge of an organisation as big as EDC. Old Witwicky was fine in his role. Dunno, maybe Marissa was supposed to be a foil to him, but now when Witwicky Sr is dead she needs to calm down. Still has bonus points for punching Spike. Less overreacting, more being like Maria Hill of SHIELD. Maybe she was put in charge only because of politics?
No more likely they had no one else available at the time. It is like She interim Director until someone is found. I would even prefer to early version of Skye of Agents of Shield. Occupy Wall Street she could have been used as a spy on the group. If a person in organization that deals with giant robots it more than likely the person will not be to scared of them. If Faireborne is scared of Cybertronians where she goes in to hysterics then she will be poor agent. Besides she saw Megatron in AHM so it is not like a giant shock to her.
Did his "live and learn" reaction not spell out that he's not really the type to dwell on defeats? Also, given that he has the "Earth Enigma", I think he's doing just fine.
Not really. Fear is not just such a simple reaction so one can only tremble or lash out. It may come in many shades, down to being just vengeful. G1 Circuit Breaker was motivated mostly by fear of being hurt again and that was about the most believable aspect of her personality. Even if as a written character she had a whole lot of issues. Also, you may not fear individuals, but deep inside be scared of what their entire species as a group can do to your home. Even if you go past fear, there still might be resentment and hatred. I'd say a whole lot of people on post-AHM Earth may still have this kind of feelings. Many voters as well... It's a perfect climate for voting or picking less than ideal leaders. To me Marissa comes as a kind of a hardhead zealot. Not the most likeable kind of characters, but not the most unrealistic either.
I was hoping her composure would be Melinda May than anything. It is okay I am scared but I will not show it. Really hard head and tough Zealot. I don't have a problem for her background really it makes sense that the government send a spy so it is reasonable. Aside the fact it was made clear she highest ranked member under General Witwicky it also made sense to be interim director. But it does not make her act scared especially one at her level in military. Being scared and internalizing it where she does not show it would had been more ideal. As for Blackrock his smiles on the panel he was on reminds me of Gin from Bleach. It feels off somehow. First time we seen him since the Combiner Wars and acting like an air head rich boy makes sense. I think Blackrock is more dangerous than Marissa.
You do bring up good points especially about Humans not having a good reason to like Cybertronians after All Hail Megatron but it rubs me the wrong way they're allied with the Cons....I'm sure it'll all go to hell sooner or later. Yeah I can sort of see the comparison of Gin and Blackrock. I also get a Varrick from the Legend of Korra vibe from him too...except not as funny or charismatic or likeable. I liked Gen Witwicky. He was a lot more reasonable I feel but i haven't read a lot of issues with him though so i might be wrong still....shame what happened to him though.
Having Witwicky killed, imho, wasn't the best move. After Hunter being killed in AHM and Pink working with Spike, the last one reasonable human character (reasonable in a non-villainous self-serving way, so Blackrock doesn't count!) is Verity who's mothballed since LSOTW. It really limits Earth-related stories. These DO need human characters in them, but it's now down to a rather derpy-derp humans in charge...
