Maybe TF5 should be more like the first movie?

The first transformers film is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its not perfect but I love it and it was a really cool interpretation of the transformers in live action. It also felt like it had a lot of Spilberg's influence, giving it more of that Scifi awe and wonder.I still appreciate the other films but they just don't capture the magic of the first.

Another aspect I like about the first is that it felt like the traditional autobots vs decepticons battle. It was two clearly defined teams against each other. The decepticons had more of an identity in this one too. In the sequels they become more of an army of drones.

So I'm hoping the TF5 just gets back to basics and has a small Group of decepticons vs a small group of autobots.

    Exactly.

The first movie just had some bit of magic to it that made it endearing.

Yup! The Decepticon protoforms were an absolute load of crap. Along with the no name random Decepticons they would throw they would show for a second or 2

This is good news to me. I'm glad that one of the single biggest problems of the franchise is being acknowledged & addressed.

The premise of the first movie was autobots fighting the evil decepticons. And it should also be for future movies.

These recent posts have hit the nail on the head. No more useless cannon fodder. Give us memorable Decepticon antagonists that aren't just there to make the Autobots look good.

That's why I'm looking forward to what the new table of writers can bring us. Sequels and prequels and spin offs and all....!!!

I mean I totally agree with everything you say here Honorbound.

Regardless of which of the films one prefers, I think the fifth film needs to be somewhat different than the first film. Sure, it will still have Autobots. It will still have Megatron and presumably some other Decepticons, but just like AOE was not only about humans and Autobots allied against the Decepticons, so does the fifth film need to be about more than just Autobots vs. Decepticons. I personally would like Galvatron to bring about a Decepticon resurgence, but at the same time some plans and allies of the Creators are revealed to Optimus Prime and possibly others. Lockdown and his minions were neither Autobot nor Decepticon, and likewise TF 5 should have one or more Transformers that are neither in addition to the Autobots and Galvatron and any Decepticons that appear.

Be interesting to see who they're gonna add in to TF5. Cyclonus, Scourge, Magnus, Hot Rod, Kup all would be decent additions.

I kind of wish they started over, did it retro 80s style. CGI G1 style alt modes with rock and roll and teased hair people! Like the good old days. Bring in Spike Carly. It would all be new to many people and add some 80s humor. Just not a fan of practically liquid shaping TFs. The last movies got progressively worse. I kind of miss the back and forth of the G1 series. More autobots, stronger decepticons but less of them and people caught in the mix.

As many people have pointed out, the first film has a lot of flaws. Being mainly focused on humans is one of them. While AoE had more focus on the bots themselves, I found it still lacking. First, I hated Drift. Love Ken, hate Drift. His backstory wasn't explored or even mentioned! And he just felt too much like a stereotype.

The bots also felt too violent towards each other. While I get that it's Crosshair's personality to look out for himself, Hound threatening to shove a grenade down Drift's throat seemed a bit too much.

AoE also had some dumb human characters. That Cemetery Wind dude with the gray hair got beat by a untrained mechanic. Also, "my sister was killed in Chicago", she was killed by the Decepticons idiot. Lucas, creepy pervy dude with a sweet ride. Also it seems like everyone got over his death in like five minutes. Shane, coward who can't choose what accent he wants to use.

While I don't want humans gone entirely, why not bring back Lennox? I actually liked him and his NEST team. If you're going to have humans in the movie, make them relevant and enjoyable.

I want the designs 07, ROTF, and DOTM had back. I like Optimus' new design, but it gives me a head-ache to think about how he transforms into a semi. Drift being a triple changer makes no sense considering his robot form has like no vehicle kibble. Crosshair's design is once again cool, but how does he transform into a Corvette, likewise with Hound transforming into a long military truck thing. Give me character designs that don't give me a headache!

The humor in 07 was passable and even kinda funny at moments. AoE had moments that felt just plain creepy (looking at you Romeo and Juliet Law scene) and scenes that were supposed to be serious but felt hilarious to me (Cade screaming "NOOOO!" while slamming his fist into the ground.)

07 also had the toughest decepticons in it. AoE had an army of drones were incapable of neutralizing one Autobot. ONE BOT. Megatron killed Jazz in like a second. NO MORE DRONE ARMIES. I WANT DECEPTICONS WITH PERSONALITIES AND NAMES AND A FIGHTING CHANCE! NOT JUST A REBORN MEGATRON AND SOME RED DUDE! No more snarling and animal-like cons either, that's a problem with all the movies.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Quoting a previous post, the first one had a bit of magic at the end. Maybe it was a mix of the background, the Autobots and Optimus's last line in there. The mix with the humans wasn't bad. It was the first film so they had to build up an intro for the Autobots.

But the first film showed a very powerful group of Decepticons that all had names (even though most didn't talk) that proved very menacing without countless drones and protoforms.

It took a mix of 3 Autobots and a handful of soldiers to kill Brawl for Pete's sake!!

    Agreed on all counts.
