No... I'm just not feeling these guys... I have no objections to Optimus Prime and his Autobots combining, and I like the idea of Cyclonus combining into Galvatron (like he's trying to revive his leader as a Combiner), but these molds just don't work for these characters in my eyes.

 

All the things you said are true. For the millionth time on a TF forum, Repaints are annoying but Hasbro is only in this to make MONEY. They are constantly treading the line between cost and quality and if it comes down to it, quality loses out, otherwise they go out of bizness and then, "No soup for you!"
There is still plenty of awesome-ness to balance out the lame-ness for me to still enjoy the current lines. Wheee!

 

Without the faceplate that head could pass for energon rodimus. Wouldnt be suprised if they use that mold for rodimus at some point.

I'm torn on a few of these. I dig the new Mirage, but the old one is still really cool. Classics Ironhide is ok, the newly announced MP one looks a little too tall, but the new CW one doesn't scream Ironhide to me. Trailbreaker kind of interests me, but I like the one from last year too, so I don't see the need to upgrade. I'm buying Sky Lynx and the new Prime and I'll just display him as Nova Prime. When they announced Combiner Wars, I was really hoping for only all the G1 combiners. I don't much care for these new ones. I know kids might dig them, and that's fine. To each his own.

 

Cyclonus is out already, I have him, so I have no idea why that Galvatronus pic is there. I think Hasbro screwed up and was supposed to send a pic of Optimus Maximus, as there doesn't seem to be a pic of him.

As to "why anybody would want these": the novelty factor of having the 1984-5 crew as combiners. Who didn't fantasize about that happening as a kid, especially after it sort of did in Masquerade?

 

Since Trailbreaker seems to have a 5mm hole in front of his hand, that's a missed opportunity for a force field accessory!

 

That white Optimus with the head crest looked very Prowl the first time I looked at it.

Man o man, I was very skeptical about how Optimus Maximus would turn out but I was wrong. Battle Core OP to me just seems like an anime style upgrade (Super Saiyan?) and that Prowl is probably my favorite of the group. Of course I was waiting for the perfect Ironhide for my classics shelf and I think I might have found it, a great round of reveals from Hasbro this year.

Sad that the second Optimus got a new head and poor Blast Off didn't...

 

Looking at it, it actually seems pointless to have given Optimus a new head, I mean I won't complain about Blast Off's perfectly find head but I felt they could have given him a new head instead of another Optimus.

 

Out of curiosity, do we know which issue of Combiner Wars comes with Prowl?

 

Hasbro probably looked at Blast-Off and Prime and figured they'd have a harder time pitching a straight repaint at the Voyager scale than the Deluxe scale.

At least the head they went with was Quickslinger's instead of Firefly. So it's not something the "average" consumer would have seen on shelves yet.

I have a longshot theory that the second half of 2016 is going to be Hasbro paying homage to the Japanese series by releasing US CW versions of Star Convoy, Liokaiser, and Overlord.

 

Based on past experiences, most likely it'll be an issue where Prowl isn't relevant at all.

Any idea which issue # it'll be so I can know how many issues I'll need to get caught up on to know what's going on? I don't know if I'll get the whole story arc, but since I'll have a good handfull of the issues from the figures, it's something I might consider.
