I'm sure both Mark and Michael will be back. It's that it's naturally gonna take some more time cause the new writers have only recently started working on the cinematic universe stuff so this year they'll do the script, start the pre-production, shoot the film in the summer of 2016 and release it in the summer of 2017.

Studios were comfortable with the split when the US dollar was weak. A weak dollar and it's not as many tickets to make up for that American you couldn't lure to the movie theater.

But with the US dollar getting stronger I think we will see studios wanting to build the domestic takes back up. With Avengers 2 making $442 million it would seem that the domestic market isn't a lost cause if a studio can find a way to get potential ticket buyers excited to see something.

Even with strong international numbers it's still hard for studios to justify green lighting films that don't make back their budget domestically. Pacific Rim seems to be the exception rather than rule but then Warner Brothers hasn't been rushing Pacific Rim 2 into production. With the budget of the Transformers films I'm not sure Paramount can be happy if the domestic box office continues it's fall to make less that $200 million, which is a real danger if nothing changes with the films.

They've never made less than 200 so I don't see that as a real danger at all. AOE is the only one that was on the low side every other movie did very well domestically and I also disagree with the premise that it's hard for movies to do well without a strong domestic. If you performed the search I suggested you'd see several examples of movies that did just that.

Again if you look at trends the US is hanging on by a thread as the tastesetters for the world. China continues to rise and they just made AOE their highest grossing movie ever.

I don't know we saw the series go up domestically from $319 million to $402 million. But then the series went from $402 million down to $352 million. Then the dip down from $352 million to $245 million.

Age of Extinction didn't turn around the domestic slide so it doesn't seem like like a crazy theory to say it's possible that Transformers 5 could make less than $200 million domestically. The soft kind of sort of but not really reboot didn't break the downward trend.

crazy? no not at all, but I wouldn't count on it either. I still say AOE was targeted at the Asian market which clearly paid off for them.

Well I saw this coming when they first announced they pushed TF5 back. Also no director in Hollywood would want to inherit this unless the term 'reboot' is being used....

Except for anyone that would want to work on one of the highest earning movie franchises ever, no one would want that.

Without Michael Bay you wouldn't have Transformers today. It's a fact! Ask Emil.

How did I know this thread would be mostly hate filled? /sigh

I'm okay with this because I don't mind Bay doing these. But I am interested to see what happens with the writing. The list of new writers is impressive.

Hah, no. That's just something that people parrot because it sounds good to them and they weren't around before 2007 to know otherwise. Transformers was a stable franchise during that time, whether you cared about it or not.

Actually, it's been stated multiple times the monetary success of the movies have furthered lines (like Masterpiece) and has made Transformers as a whole a more common name.

    It's in the Masterpiece guidebook.

I'm not denying it pumped a shitload of cash into Transformers. What I take issue with is the post-2008 people claiming Transformers was a dying or dead franchise before the 2007 movie, which I know from firsthand experience to be false.

Isn't that like me saying racism no longer exists because I don't have any first-hand experience of it?

    ..clearly it still exists.

Just because your personal experience is different, it doesn't mean that what you've experienced personally is true everywhere.

Transformers wasn't dead, but it certainly isn't what it is today.

Though, I should say that at this point it's become a joke to people which is a shame.

I think a lot of people are probably going by what the hasbro guy said on the DVD extras for the first movie.

Well, dying or dead is a little harsh anyway, but despite my join date, I know where my roots lie.

Even if I'm not fond of them.

The same applies to "becoming a joke." My experiences with my friends and family who are casual fans, as well as each movie showing I've seen generally elicit a positive response.

I know a lot of the "fandom" thinks it's a joke, hates it, or whatever, but in the grand scheme of things, someone has to be paying for those tickets.
