Because Vipers are rare compared to 'vettes.

Of course, at the same time no one from G1 was a viper 'cuz they didn't exist. I'd rather take a Viper Wheeljack over the Mustang.

Perceptor needs to be a Unimog though.

Ideas for the next Autobot set:
Perceptor: Mercedes-Benz Unimog (to get to areas to study)
Cliffjumper: Rally Fighter (you have no idea how much this works)
Trailbreaker: Toyota Hilux (or whatever the modern version is in the states as an SUV)
Sunstreaker: 2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV
Skids: Scion xB
Brawn: Toyota FJ Cruiser

Yeah, some aren't 'common' but for the three that aren't:
Cliffjumper NEEDS to be a rally vehicle
Perceptor needs to offroad
Sunstreaker is too egotistical to choose a common vehicle

....Actually, my logic is based on Sideswipe's recent shift to being Melee-oriented; Sunstreaker is the larger lamborghini model so he's got powerful cannons similar to Sideswipe's swords

 

My logic is that the two are both equal to, and capable of overpowering, eachother.

 

In G1, Swipe and 'Streaker did not share a vehicle mode. Swipe's Countach was stock, and 'Streaker's was heavily modified.

A good modern analogy would be between the Huracan (Swipe) and Sesto Elemento (Streaker).

I like most of these, but I think some sort of communications APC would be better for Soundwave than a helicopter. An F117 doesn't strike me as suiting Shockwave either.
