Grimlock looks nice, but still not worth the prices his size class costs nowadays. Not really bothered by the shade of gold he uses, as we've come to expect that kind of thing by now. Metallic paint over large areas almost always remains exclusive to prototypes, except for a few cases here and there.

Bumblebee looks ridiculous. LITERALLY all they did was swap out his yellow and black color placement. Oh, and they gave him a new sticker, too. Can't forget that. He might look a lot less gaudy (a lil cool, even) if they had just given him black or at least grey wheels. The effort with the mainline figures in this line is just sad, considering how much of the main line is actually left to manage. Hopefully the prices start dropping soon or there is more work put into these designs. Even if the figures aren't meant for adults, the price points shouldn't turn adults off, as they can buy them for their children.

Meh, I'm not a fan of either of these, really. Bee is obvious crap (ugh, yellow wheels.) and Grimlock, while not a bad repaint in itself, I feel the faceplate, Gold, red and silver don't really match the character's portrayal in RID.

Oh, really? Hadn't ever tried it myself, just assumed. Haha! Figures. Okay, in that case I retract my statement, and go back to believing there is NOTHING good about the pegged wheels. :p

N.O. Bum...The tires are a tragedy. If they swapped the head and the tires, that figure would be really nice looking.

I get the feeling RiD was going for an almost Power Rangers like simplicity in the character designs. Very few of them share a primary color. So in your initial team the kids can quickly tell them apart as "The <Insert Color> One".

I get a Nemesis BB vibe from NightOps. Grimlock just looks off in those colors. I like the IDEA, not so much the execution (alt mode is a colorless mess).

Good observation. Huh. That's neat, in a way, but it's also very limiting and simplistic. These R.I.D. toys don't need to be dumbed down like that, but then again, hasn't Hasbro been doing this with all their toys? It's how we got a bright orange Jhiaxus (which I liked), and a purple dinosaur.

When you put "classic" colors on these molds, they do look a bit stupid, however. R.I.D. Grimlock needs more green, less black, imo.

Honestly, I adore the approach they seem to be taking with main characters each having their own identifiable color or pair of colors (no, Steeljaw and his crew are not main characters. Yet, anyways). I noticed that from the beginning, and think it was a great move to make the characters easily identifiable. Shows like G1 though had tons of red and white bots throughout the first two seasons, and they probably decided to use the primary color approach when working on season 3, as it is quite apparent (Rodimus is red, Kup is turquoise, Blurr is blue, Springer is green etc). That's one thing I like, even if a lot of characters share very similar design cues that I may not like. It's not limiting if you carefully plan it out, however they will definitely start recycling colors as the show gets more designs.

I just hate how many shortcuts are being taken with the design work and how un-characterful all the sculpts are. They come ever so close, but fail to match that dynamic aesthetic they were going for in the show. The next series should have show designers and toy designers working together like Animated did, as Animated had some of the best, most accurate toys even though it had drastic and dynamic designs (save for a few stinkers like the jet twins, Blitzwing, and so on).

... are people allergic to explaining what's wrong with Grimlock's elbows?

Anyway, I really like this Grimlock and have been looking for a decent Deluxe-size Grimlock. I've got a solid Voyager (The AOE redeco of FOC Grimlock), Leader-ish (MP), Scout (Animated Activator), Minicon (DOTM Dualor) but no decent Deluxe (... Classics does not count as decent).

Did they just add an extra goopey layer of silver over Grimlock's mouth to give him a battlemask and call it a day?

Oddly enough I'm starting to like that Bee. Lazy palette swap though it is I kinda like it.
Yeah it's kinda sad too because we have yet to see a Decepticon other than Steeljaw get a figure in this classize.

Still hoping for a Steeljaw redeco in black as Battle Ravage.

    No Alternators love?

Same here. I want to get "something" from this line and this repaint makes sense.

Kind of a shame Grimlock gets his battle mask, but not Bee. I generally like both. They'll need some extra paint. Primarily just black, though.

Man, that Goldzilla packaging is mis-representing! Still, I may want this...even though I have classics Grimlock for this purpose, Gold Grim is reminding me of his Classic Pretender self in a strange way...couple that with RID Jazz...good lord am I to buy my first RiD2015 toys? o_O '

Ehhh... I'd like these a lot more if Grimlock was Voyager Class and Bumblebee had black tires.

So they literally just swapped the black and yellow on Bumblebee and called it a day?

The reason is likely because the tires are gang-molded with other parts that were also black on original Bumblebee but are yellow on Night Ops Bumblebee.

Change the plastic color for one part, change the plastic color of all gang-molded parts.

Looking at the plastic has me thinking no and it'll be the same crap all over again. Grim looks good with the new noggin, but I really don't want to have to jump through hoops to try and fix something that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.
