This was my thinking too.

They'll probably skip the "unnecessary" figs and release the more G1 friendly decos/remolds only.

 

Wouldn't be the first time Takara have skipped a toy. I'm disappointed we never got to see their version of Cliffjumper, Nightbeat or Black Shadow.

I agree with you on the sales potential. But the Hasbro version isn't a "mustard yellow" it's a more orange color, with a slight copper tint. I think you've got the two mixed up, Takara's silverbolt is the one with the bright mustard yellow. Which looks inferior in my opinion. I have the Hasbro Superion (minus an arm) and other than silverbolt the other differences are minuscule and will only be apparent when we get our comparison shots. And regardless of how geewunn accurate Takara's is, I prefer black weapons and hands/feet.

 

That's why you have a choice of which one to get

 

I bet Takara will skip a lot of the non-originally a Combiner guys that Hasbro is doing. Even perhaps guys like Cyclonus. I hope I'm.wrong though and Takara does a set with limbs for him.

I think neither is inferior. Both versions have their good & bad points.

With that said I like both, I've already completed my Hasbro one & will also buy the Taktomy giftset.  

 

Only have to wait til may to get the last part of the Hasbro one. Alpha bravo does make an awesome stand in

 

The problem I have with Takara's take on Silverbolt, is that yellow-ish/gold paint is far different than yellow-ish/gold chrome; which is what the G1 had.

The shine of the chrome really made that figure; I'm not sure how I feel about the paint version of it.

I'll have to see more pictures.

 

Repeating myself from the top of the page----Takara is going for TOON-accurate Aerialbots. Which is a pale yellow when it comes to Silverbolt. And they've got that spot-on.

They are basing it off that look, not the chrome-plated toy.

Whereas Hasbro *is* going for toy-based coloring. They're just too cheap to use metallic gold paint on any but Skydive. (Sample pics of Air Raid showed metallic gold, but the actual release was changed to orange like Silverbolt got--it looked so much better with the gold, and matched Skydive better too)

 

I like the updated color scheme of the Hasbro version a lot better.

 

I think the yellow on Silverbolt is great.

Nice that for Superion they used gold paint since you can't really see any of Silverbolt's yellow.

I think the colors chosen for the Takara version make for a much more cohesive gestalt. That's why I like it better. I'm going to display him in combined mode, so the way that looks is much more important to me than the colors of the individual bots.

 

The yellow vs gold aside, the Takara version highlights a couple of things about the Hasbro one that are a little disappointing to me:

- The shoulder 'fins' are simply left black on the Hasbro version, while Takara has the much cooler, toon-accurate white/silver (see the first two pics).

- When in torso mode, the back of Silverbolts' shoulders (Superion's hips) are again left in black on the Hasbro version, while Takara's are done in red, consistent with the crotch (see the next two pics).

These minor differences aren't enough to make me switch camps (it'll cost me about 50% more, for one thing!) but it's still a little irritating.

Might have to bust out the old Sharpies for little repainting, methinks!  

 

Pretty much this, and a giftset box!

 

The more I keep looking at these pics, the more I'm tempted to buy this set.
