seriously? It looks like a low budget Nickelodeon TV movie Not sure which decade they are going with the band costumes and the Holograms look WAY younger than what I expected.
I was just about to say that this will basically be like every Disney Channel original movie with a nostalgic name on it. It's not really for me, so all I can hope for is that it pleases the demographic its aiming for.
I wish they would have let some of those cosplayers make a movie the outfits would have looked better ha.
I've been half watching the old series in the mornings when I get home from work. This is the most 80s thing I've ever seen. Not terrible, just a little ridiculous. Now they are doing a live action movie? God I hope it is as cheesy as the toon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfa9t-TeeVU#t=110 No supercomputer or hologram disguise. Looks like generic teen rockstar movie and they took the look and name and used it. Left out all the SciFi elements
Ok way to screw it up people. It isn't that hard. The story from the show would work surprisingly well. Daughter of inventor who owns a struggling music company discovers a supercomputer able to create holographic illusions. Along with her friends who run a home for orphan tween girls, become the biggest band in the world. But rival band, The Misfits, try to stop them. Discovery Family is running the cartoon and I've seen most of the first few. Perfectly fine plot.
I'm confused why didn't they take the more Sci Fi route of the show into here? Making it into a generic rising rock band story won't make people be excited for it at all.
I'm sure it's fine as a movie, but as an adaptation....that's pretty abysmal. Say what you want about the Transformers movies, but at least they had Transformers in it.
My one hope for the movie was that they would just go with crazy 80's music, but this trailer confirmed my fear that this will just be a theatrically released crappy Disney Channel movie.
I literally started feeling sick 1/4 through watching... whatever the hell that was. Knew it was going to be a train wreck, but not THAT bad. 6 year old little girls will probably love it, though, so... yay?
Does anyone else find it strange that none of the band's songs are in the trailer? They just use a pre-Jem song and "Story of My Life."
So no Sci-fi stuff? Just a generic rock band movie? Are the Misfits even in this? Doesn't look like it, probably not, and I find the lack of the theme song disturbing. This movie could have stood out but no, they suck out everything that made Jem unique. Why can't a good movie based on a Hasbro property be made?
From that short trailer I couldn't help but think of the Josie and the Pussycats movie. It seemed to be hitting all the same plot points.
I was under the mistaken impression that this would be based on the cartoon show of the same name. I haven't been this disappointed since I went to see MASK and found out it was just Cher taking care of T-Bob.
