Yes, it was because of an injury in universe (I think it was. I have no intention of ever rereading preDC notRID). Bee's not old enough to need a cane simply because his body starting to give out on him. However, from a story telling point of view, the association people make between a cane and old age is used so Bee's cane represents how he stopped being a little kid, and became the Autobot's leader. Also, as Olymprix pointed out, his less than perfect body represents that he's a less than perfect leader.

Good idea: Swinging a giant hammer of d00m to smite your enemies.

Bad idea: Swinging a giant hammer of d00m with warheads attached to its head to smite your enemies.

Awesome idea: Swinging a giant hammer of d00m with warheads attached to its head to blow your enemies to smithereens.

The Combiner Wars line has been pretty beast so far. We've gotten Alpha Bravo and his missile-forearms, Rook and Bombshell and their cannon-fists, and now Magnus with his missile-hammer.

Firstly, I really do like this Ultra Magnus, and I do hope to get one myself. CW Magnus is another example of the great designs being made into decent molds now.

Unfortunately, the back is the ugly part of him. I hate Hasbro's blatant use hollow/slotted plastic in many of their current molds, but at least here in Magnus it's at the back. I'm not going to accept any excuse for their insistence of this practice, since it mars some of their better figures with unnecessary cost-cutting/plastic saving disfigurements. Magnus' ramps, car platforms, and thighs, are riddled with slotted plastic; who thinks they'd look better smooth & flat with molded detail instead?

Why doesn't Hasbro just raise the price already, to get enough plastic to cover the holes, and be done with it?! How much can they possibly save by sparing a few square inches of plastic (and a little silver paint for the wheels)? Hasbro designers are trying to give adult collectors the G1 homages they want, but are hampered by exaggerated economies being taken.

The mold looks good, but the Takara deco is so much more appealing. Plus, no Minimus (who really should've just been White Optimus instead of Pistachio Mustache).

Really? Another anti-Minimus wacko? Just buy the "Masterpiece" and leave this good MTMTE Magnus for the rest of us.

    Fixed.

I am currently passing on the Takara version as well due to the same exact reasons. The Hasbro versions blue is spot on. Despite Takaras version having the IDW accurate red thighs and painted hub caps, the dark blue just looks so off that it drives me crazy.

Buying both versions just seems so extreme and unnecessary, not to mention a strain on the wallet. The Hasbro version does have a lot of things going for it and I'm more then happy to have it. Like many have said, Reprolables might take care of some of our issues with it.
