Does anyone who already has Apollyon and disappointed plan on returning him? I'm curious if the disappointments are enough to do without an MP Mega or if you feel the flaws are tolerable enough to have him displayed.

Just got my Apollyon. Quick first impressions:

-Nice silver paint. No noticeable errors. Dimples are there in his chest, but only really visible in the right lighting. You forget about them quickly.
-Has a nice heft to him, but the plastic does feel a bit light. Not weak, but definitely light. This is coming from somebody whose main purchases aren't third party, so I don't have any bias there. BadCube Brawny was my last 3P buy, and his plastic felt a bit more dense in general.

-Pre-installed balljoints way too loose. Extra balljoints are way too tight. Might try putting some shock oil on the tighter ones though, since they have a sort of built-in detente that I really dig (the ball sockets are the pieces you replace. The outward arm motion is controlled by two pegs on either side of the socket that sit in the connection between the parts- the replacements have a hexagonal or octagonal shape to them instead of just being circular, allowing them to have sort of a faux-ratcheting motion)

-Hands are still ugly to me. I appreciate the gesture, but I still much prefer the less broken-up look of hands like MP10's.

-Overall, feels alright. Not perfect, but I do not regret spending 150 bucks on him as of yet, and that's coming from someone who only spends ~$600 a year outside of buying necessities.

I'll post some more thoughts later after I get him transformed.

Would anybody like a video of the orange plug removal? Figure I might as well as since people have been wondering about it and I haven't taken them out yet.

Complexity doesn't bother me...not one bit. Having revisited MP-05 to do my review of the gold version of him. I mention that i actually developed an appreciation for it. And since these two figures share similar design elements. That part doesn't bother me. I'm sorry if i gave the impression that wasn't what i disliked. It's mostly the complex nature of how his legs transform, and by that i mean the gun handle portions. They're overly complex for what i feel they need to do. I think the simplicity of how Takara did it, worked better than what XTB utilized. And looking through, it seems a lot of the sample reviews had that problem too. Either they only showed the transformation OUT of gun mode, into robot mode. Or when they got to the part with lining things up and tabbing everything together, every single video i saw, did some sort of jump cut and essentially ignored what they cut out and just carried on like nothing was wrong. That part of the transformation i feel is the most frustrating.

I think Paik4Life's review handled the legs the best. That was where he started from and went from Bot to gun. Doing it that way also made it seem less floppy.

    Yes.

The tab that was in the way has been snipped off.

Sorted out on mine. Works excellently.

Also, pretty sure this is the first picture of Apollyon playing with himself. I am glad to have that honor.

(Holy crap the lighting in this room is bad)

those are called sink marks. those would nto go away without a complete reworking of the design of whatever part they are on. it has to do with the changes in thickness of molded plastic and the way it cools. my guess is behind those sing marks are some sort of support bars or something extending from the flat surface (hence a change in material thickness), leaving that area to cool last and shrink away from the surface.. almost every toy has them (go look at mp-10 carefully). its easy to see on apollyon because silver. also the lighting in that photo casts heavy shadows. i doubt they will be as obvious in person.

stuff like this happens because of several reasons. the engineer designing the part (if it is an engineer) does not understand ways to minimize this phenomena and design around it. the tool maker did not make the mold in a a way that allows for optimal cooling adn part ejection. the molder isn't using the optimal time, pressure, temperature parameters to reduce the effect, or both. any one or combination of those things can cause that.

i do not expect it to go away at all unless retooled. i'm sure they would have tried to adjust molding parameters already...

Just got this and dx9s astrotrain in and I was supprised by witch one had the issues, Apollyon overall is great, no bad paint, no scratches, at least before I dropped him. ( I may have pooped a little) nice stiff joints but not too stiff. The transformation is complex and can eat you up a little, but it's fun and after a back and forth it gets easier, the dimples kind of blow but you can only see them if the light hits them just right.
My only real issue is the leg kibble is kind of a pain in the ass to tab together but I think Tcracker had some fixes for that on here.
Over all very solid figure, and I am very happy with it.
Chigurh on the other hand, holy stress marks man, just about every pin on him has them, and the ankle joints are pretty loose so it is kind of a pain to get him in some poses, and I can't seem to get his chesticals to tab in for shit.
Still a solid figure but not the one I was worried about you know.

It's not that I won't. I might. Just not feeling up to it yet and I don't have a strong need/desire to. I transform most of my figures but once he's on my shelf I may never get around to it.

Edit: DoctorsTARDIS, are you still planning on keeping a running compilation of Apollyon pics?

Guys, seriously... Every. Fear. Relieved! Plastic is solid, figure is tight, paint is perfect... Orange cap pulled out manually with my fingertips. Shipped from BBTS. Shoulders are firm and take pressure to remove. Could not be happier!!

I bet you TFSource has their shipment. They don't want to let their customers know so that they do not have to spend all weekend packing orders, especially since this Sunday is Mothers Day. Then they will miraculously show up Monday.

The fact I ordered from TFSource is a blessing in disguise.. I still have time to cancel my pre-order from my stack :p

Chances are I'll end up getting Apollyon but I'm glad I have time to see more feedback.

Is this figure 100% perfect? No. Is it fiddly to transform? Yeah. Is it easily the best G1-style Megs figure to date ? ? ?

    YES!

For a $150.00 don't we deserve a 100% perfect figure with a non fiddelly transformationan which is also the best G1 styled Megs ? That's the question we should be asking. The orange plug being the only issue we should have.
