We're finishing off Wave 3 of the Combiner Wars Legends and kicking off our galleries of the Combiner Wars Protectobots in one fell swoop - it's the turn of Groove to take the spotlight! Protectobot Groove is no longer the same size as Streetwise, Blades or First Aid, but is instead the Legends class member of the team. He's not an essential part of Defensor, but when he combines, it is as armor for the gestalt.

Groove sports a cool highway cop-style motorcycle alternate mode, which transforms into a neatly articulated robot mode. There's a lot of motion in both the arms and legs, and even a tiny bit of head movement from side to side. Because of the alternate mode, Groove ends up with a small torso and long legs, which looks a bit weird, but it's mitigated by the fact that Groove can strike lots of nice poses. The chest armor mode is a real transformation - it's not just sticking the vehicle on the chest of the combiner like with Blackjack - and it fits solidly. The only real fault we can find is that Groove has no accessory - a nice blaster, like the one that comes with Legends Optimus Prime, really brings out the best of what this toy has to offer.

Overall, Groove is a neat little toy. He's just started arriving at US retail, so be sure to keep an eye out for him and his fellow Legends Viper and Warpath if you like what you see here.

Such a cool little figure! I can't wait to see him repainted as other stuff, like maybe Rumble and Frenzy...
Also, I hope BBTS gets Hot Spot in soon! I needs me some Protectobots!

A little more on the leggier side than I would like, but still looks great overall. Hasbro's gonna take all my house payments this year :(

Oddly enough, despite having a short torso, he still looks good. Hopefully HasTak will release a full-sized version of Groove at some point in the CW line.

Great pics there. I got him at BBTS for $13.99. I regretted paying that much but seeing how awesome he is in those pics, I'm glad I went ahead and picked him up. He also looks good with Legend Prime's rifle. I think Legends Huffer has an accessory he can donate to Groove. :D

As much as I love that they made him more logical size-wise by scaling him down compared to the other Protectobots I still don't get why they couldn't just make it that he's a futuristic bike that other bots ride on, not people, which would explain him being deluxe-sized like the others, other than this way they make money on an extra toy in Rook.

Perfect. He's so Perfect. And a great homage to G1 while being a modern figure. Thanks Has! <3

It's kind of funny, when you look at his feet in the right way, they look like police boots!

The 5 part g1 combiners in general only go up to combiner wars combiner's waists.

    Groove is Groovy.

I'm glad they made him a legends figure over a deluxe combiner.

Holy shit someone actually praising Hasbro. I haven't seen that in a while.

    Looks good.

I wonder, with a new head and paint scheme... could we get a passable Rung out of this mold?

Pretty much this. Not only that, but they could have used a futuristic bike version of Groove as a repainted/remolded version of Afterburner for a future Combiner Wars Computron. A lack of forward thinking on Hasbro's part. (Or maybe Hasbro is just hell-bent on giving us a new member on every team for whatever reason.)
